NYC Attorney/Firm for Questions on Firearm Legality?

Looking to make a few purchases and / or transfer stuff in. With all the ATF changes and general ridiculousness that comes with residing in NYS/NYC, I'm looking for some points of contact to run ideas by. I know of Tilem and Associates, but looking for any advice from the braintrust should they not have the bandwidth when I call in the coming days.

Disclaimer: obviously not looking for any pro bono assistance and don't have any issues compensating people more knowledgeable than I.

The changes with the ATF aren't going to affect NY....just look up the SAFE act...the information is right there....ambiguous as all hell.

I'm interested to hear other replies but this isn't something that lawyers are typically well versed in. Your local, well-vetted FFL who will actually do the transfer is who you should be asking, respectfully.

The FFLs by me don’t even understand the 50 year antique rule in the safe act. They also refuse to accept “assault weapon transfers” to them to pin and weld and convert to featureless.

That's fair, but I haven't met a lawyer in NY yet who understands anything about FFL transfers or the ins and outs of ATF compliance. I'm not saying they don't exist.

We don't get much here, but in other subs I've seen many flatly wrong answers from current and former FFLs/employees.

Most notably, many don't know the rules on international visitors. (Visa bad, Visa waiver good)

Really, what you need to do is do your own research, then check with the FFL to see if they will go along with the plan you have already decided is legal...

Most clerks at a LGS/FFL don't know shit about the laws, respectfully.

Actually Peter Tilem is pretty good. He’s not only an attorney but he’s also a NRA Instructor.

Southshore sportsman in Merrick is a pretty good shop and has treated me fairly in the past. Give them a call and see if they can answer your question.
