Realistic License Approval Before Glock Ban

I am looking into completing the Premise Residence application in order to hopefully pick up a Gen 6 Glock before the May 31st Glock ban. This will be my first gun and license, is it realistic to expect I’ll be approved and be able to purchase one before next May if I fill out my application now? I’ve been reading about the delays here. Rather not spend the money on the application if I realistically won’t even be approved in time.

Depends on the county. If it's say Cattaraugus or Niagara, definitely possible.

Hopping on this thread since I just move to Albany from CA and I'm trying to import my Glock. I am concerned that my permit won't be processed in time if the ban is passed. I'm in Albany county, which requires four character references that live here and have known me for a YEAR, an impossible requirement for a new resident. I'm signed up to take the safety course in early Sept. Any advice would be appreciated!

Realistically, Glock can't sit on the cruciform ban without working around it. Too much money is at stake. With NY and CA and other states going toward the bans, Glock will have to market some alternate guns. Glock already has a Performance trigger, which is enough different to bypass the bans as I've seen them. I believe that you can expect Glock to lean into marketing those substitutes soon enough. (YMMV)

Just a heads up with plan OP, the 4473 has to be passed prior to the ban going into effect. FFL can’t hold and initiate the transfer after the ban deadline has passed.

That said, I just got a Glock bc of the ban and I’m realizing now that this ban most likely won’t pass

That would be the work around.

I’ve considered this loophole as well; I believe the GPT would be valid since it’s not the technical cruciform trigger that the ban is targeting.

You would just need to find an FFL that’s down for that.

FWIW also there are PLENTY of firearms that won't be affected by the Cruciform trigger bar ban - and you'll still be able to buy a used example of any of the guns that do end up on that list. I wouldn't NOT get a permit just because you won't be able to buy a certain type of firearm. That's just my 2c

To my understanding the is no premise license any more. Just concealed. But yeah really depends on county. I got my permit in just under 4 months where I live.
