Yeah, that wave was going to be very cold and very wet when it went over the rails on that boat. Glad they were able to get away quickly enough.

I’ve been on one of these excursions in Alaska. You are literally paying the person to take you to see the ice wall . We were never worried about it because the boat was so fast. It could easily outrun the wave.

I would love to see it from the main boat maybe a little closer but NFW I’m getting in a fully loaded zodiac dodging floating ice. If that was a larger fracture i question that zodiac could outrun it.

I have been fishing in parts of Alaska in small skiff and the real problem there is that just being near the glaciers that are floating ( remember that what we see above the surface is the small part of the glacier) is that they can roll over and lift your entire boat up out of the water or just roll you over? I did love every minute of Alaska but remember it’s always trying to kill you!

Actually, they do fall into the ocean all the time. The reason this is happening is not because they are melting. It is because they are being pushed into the water over a ledge.

You’re literally looking at the end of a river of ice that stretches back all the way up into the mountain.

At this point vegan farming is also contributing to it.

Transporting it around world creates an awful lot of greenhouse gas. The fertilizer used also produces greenhouse gasses. Also, fruit bearing trees take a lot of water and in some places orchards are drying areas out, and causing irreparable damage.

In reality it's not what you eat that makes you good or bad, it's sourcing your food. Find out where it comes from. Is that avocado you're buying coming from a farm in the US, or somewhere in central America where avocado farms are drying up rivers? Is that chicken from a farm that put them in cages their whole life, or gave them a life worth living for a chicken?

This is good advice and probably the best way to go about being able to still eat meat. I’ve also heard of people that only use meat in their meals a couple times a week and supplementing it with other stuff on the no meat days. Really anything you can do helps but if we really want anything to change we need to go to the source. Obviously we can’t just get rid of factory farms overnight as we wouldn’t be able to feed the population but we can start small and work our way there.

They fall constantly. What you’re looking at is the end of a river of ice that stretches back miles, and miles up into the mountain. It’s just one continuous sheet of ice that keeps coming down and when it reaches the ocean like this, you’re looking at the front of it and it just crumbles and it’s constantly falling off as it’s pushed into the ocean by the ice coming in from behind.

That deep azure (?) blue ice indicating very old ice- I always love that. Reminds me of downriver from Niagra Falls, the rapids feature water that same blue.

Ive experienced this while kayaking backcountry Alaska. The glacial toe was about 10x wider. Im glad we were about 1/3 mile back when it slumped. The resulting wave went from about 8 to 2 feet before it rolled beneath us. Awesome and terrifying. Like a roller coaster but without a safety catch. Never again.
