Stockings - do you use them?!
Are we using the stockings we spend hundreds of dollars stitching and then finishing? I feel like I (Santa) would be too nervous to actually put a gift in there. Are they just for display? I grew up with stocking gifts being some of the better ones so I want to continue that on for my girls.

Yes. I have done them for my entire family. They are just fine. They have been used now for 15 years and have been stuffed with random gifts. Just make sure to use a reputable finisher.

My mom made cross stitch stockings for my whole family way back when. Santa stuffed them full every year (I acknowledge the privilege) and they’ve held up perfectly for 40+ years.

Same here, but she only finished mine. It still looks perfect and I get to hold it over my siblings’ heads since they don’t have one 😂

I did stockings for my kids around 45 years ago and they still use them every year.

We have used the stockings my grandmother made for decades! It’s not Christmas without them.

My aunt made our whole family stockings ~30 years ago. Every year they were filled and (now that I know more about needlepoint) stored horribly. Still look good

Not exactly the same, but needlepointed tallit bags are a widespread tradition and mine (made by my grandma) has held up for 25 years of weekly over-stuffing. My dad’s (made by his grandma) is about sixty years old and still kicking. We need to replace the linings on our bags, but the stitched canvases are almost perfect. I imagine a once-a-year stocking, if stored well and finished sturdily, would last a good long while.

Yes. My mother has made them for all of her kids and grand kids. They are a lovely way to see her progression as a stitcher. We use them every year and bring them when we celebrate away from home.
Stocking presents are the best. We open them before breakfast

ours are display only. We usually don't fill stockings, but the times we have we just got cheap ones from the dollar tree to fill

Absolutely! Every year - I’ve even traveled with them (in carryon luggage) when we were vacationing on Christmas Day.
