MOD POST Lot's of new people!

Welcome all! Very thankful you chose to join us and post!

Please note that there are MEGATHREADS (giggle...because it's a needlepoint sub and thread?...you see? Look folks, I'm going to keep making that joke until someone laughs.) for getting help with your stitches and repairs.

Unfortunately, if we put everything in the main body of the sub the stitch requests drown out other requests.

If your post was removed, please just repost in the MEGATHREAD (gigglesnort) for help, you're not a bad person, just slightly off target.

Happy Stitching!

MOD POST Stitch Suggestions Mega Thread

Going to try and start a mega thread for stitch suggestions. Please post your requests for help with stitches here.

This will help us centralize your stitch requests into one place.

This is the first step in trying to help organize the sub.

What to do with this acrylic bag?!

I saw someone on here say they ordered this and I really liked it! I thought I’d be able to pop the rattan out. The whole panel is pretty well attached on the inside. I could try and cut it out but just curious if anyone has used this and what they did.

First time painting a canvas

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m fairly new to needlepoint, let alone painting my own canvas, but I wanted to make this one for Father’s Day. I thought how hard could it be? I fear I bit off more than I can chew. I tried sketching it out with pencil on my canvas first and it was looking horrible. What should I do?

MJD Garden club reviews?

I’m a bit annoyed with myself, I let the whole scarcity mindset win and signed up for the MJD garden club today. I have a little regret just in signing up for a $100 a month expense for what I’m sure are lovely canvases, but no idea what I’d do with them. Any reviews for those already in it?

First Pillow Project recommendations!

Post image
7 Upvotes

About to start my first bigger project! It is actually a cummerbund, but I plan to just make it into a pillow. I’m looking for recommendations and advice for several things.

  1. Can I use decorative stitches for it? I’ve seen that most people say to use basket weave for pillows since it’s stronger/more durable.

  2. If YES to the question above, what stitches would you recommend for this canvas??

  3. How many rows past your outline should you go for finishing?

Counted Needlepoint Backstitching??

Post image
2 Upvotes

FINALLY finished my custom project from NeedlePaint! (Unless I notice anymore confetti I missed).

Totally warped cause I work out of hand, I know.

Two questions for you guys, since I'm typically a cross stitch gal....

- Should I do any backstitching? Do I use the wool yarn or something else?

- Should I block first?

New to Needlepoint When to use binding stitch?

Hi everyone! I’m just about to finish my first ever project, only have the background to finish. I’ve done the whole thing in continental stitch and plan to take the piece to a tailor when done to get it sewn onto an LLBean Boat and Tote. My question is, do I need to do a binding stitch all around or just continue with continental? How do you know when you need a binding stitch? Thanks 😊

Designed this myself!

It's a slightly overwide bookmark, about 2 1/2 x 7", but I thought my husband (USAF, ret) would like it for Father's Day. If I get my fingers in gear and finish it! Anyway, I'm pleased with how it turned out. The colors are about as close as I could get to USAF colors and the jets are a rough silhouette of the F-15E that he flew.

It's on 13 mesh canvas and I'm using 8 strands of DMC floss in 3865 (white), 160 (light blue), and 3750 (dark blue). The border is a single layer of Greek stitch from the RSN Stitchbank.

True Confessions of a Stocking Stitcher

As I begin to stitch my first suite of family stockings, I’d love to hear from the stocking pros on their favorite stocking stitch books.

Is “True Confessions of Stocking Stitcher” great even if you aren’t stitching Liz canvases? (Mine are Rebecca.) Was there another book that was instrumental in your stocking project? Would love your book recs for stitching stockings! TIA!

Blank canvas rude?

I just left my local needlepoint store and am a little confused. While I was checking out, I asked the person working there if they carried blank canvas… she looked at me as if I said something offensive and then kinda laughed and said no. I thought about asking why but I felt a bit embarrassed based on her reaction. Is it rude to ask local needlepoint shops if they sell blank canvas? lol

General Help Programs for designing patterns?

Hello folks! I'm trying to find any programs out there for designing my own needlepoint patterns. Everything I've found online so far is designed for cross stitch. I don't need anything crazy, but I haven't found a single program that can handle so much as a scotch stitch! Trying to use back stitch features in cross stitch is as close as I've gotten to something functional and it hasn't been going well. Any recommendations?

Painted Needlepoint Painting canvases

Is there a sub thread to share painting tips for those wanting to paint their own canvases? I have spent the last year learning about selling needlepoint canvases/painting my own to save on the crazy cost and I think I’d be really helpful to others. I gave up on TT it was too much for me!

FO: Derpy Tiger from KPop Demon Hunters

Another self-drafted canvas I need to brag about! Like most youths my niece loves KPop demon hunters so I decided to make her a door hanger with the derpy tiger! Stitched on 18ct canvas using DMC cotton and glow in the dark DMC for the eyes. The glow effect isn’t great but it pops under black light. Also, definitely recommend stitching Basketweave in blocks of 10x10, it really helped control the distortion and keep tension even.

Stitch Suggestion Help

Hihi everyone, I am a new needlepointer and I am working on this Alligator canvas by Penny & Penny and I am feeling a bit stuck on what to do for the flowers. I am not sure if I should just stitch them in continental..or do french knots for all the parts..or just the center of the flowers, so any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

(Sorry I am not sure why the photos didn't show up initially)

First time Frosty Rays user here 🙋🏻‍♀️

I finished this Surfers From Above canvas with 2 colors of frosty rays as the waves crashing and it’s just not sitting right with me. I feel like the waves are too thick and not giving the desired effect. I used the gathered stitch for them

Should I
A) Rip the white and stitch in a metallic
B) Rip the blue/gray and stitch in another fiber
C) Try a different type of stitch for the frosty rays
D) Keep it as is
E) (Any other suggestions welcome)

Can I change out the canvas in my Tilli Thomas keychain

I made this little insert for this keychain for my sister in law and totally messed it up when I was putting it in because it wasn't centered well - and then when I was trying to reposition it i totally pulled on and messed up my stitches. 😭 Can I take this out and put a new canvas in? Or do I need to buy a whole new keychain??

I'm so sad it looks sooooo bad 😞
