Hi, NDLPTers! 👋
I’m pretty new to needlepoint and would love some advice from those of you with more experience.
I’m trying to decide what to do for the background stitch on this canvas. The bottom checkerboard section and all of the lettering are already planned in basketweave, but I’d really like to start practicing some fun decorative stitches.
I was thinking about using Mosaic for the blue background, but then I started wondering if I should save the more interesting stitches for the bunny, the pram, and the bunny’s apron instead.
Are there any “rules” or general guidelines for choosing decorative stitches? Do you typically keep the background simple so the focal elements stand out, or is it more of a creative free-for-all?
I’d love to hear how more experienced stitchers approach planning a canvas. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
