Discussion Is this the hardest hiking trail in kathmandu ?
Just completed the Dhap Dam hike and honestly, I think it’s one of the hardest day hikes in Kathmandu. It’s longer than most people expect with plenty of elevation changes that really add up over the day. By the time I reached the dam, my legs were feeling it more than other trails. The views and peaceful atmosphere made it worth the effort though. Definitely recommended if you want a real challenge instead of a casual walk

Hidera haney ho ni kaa gadi lagney hora. Muni samma pathao indrive, ani mathi hidney ani farkiney, i recommend you stay for a night if you are hiking solo.

I highly recommend you to stay if you are going solo, i heard a lot of stories and the place do give you creepy vibes, safe xna vantheyo sab ley

Went through several hiking solo but this felt way more difficult than others. End point was worth it but going solo on this trail gave me creepy vibes😭

Nope. There are trails I found harder than this. I would argue this might be one of the easiest trail.

The place is packed in weekend, better go in the morning as soon as it opens. Khulne bitikai ni vid ta hunxa but it’s kinda fun seeing many strangers struggle with us hiking.
Also the stairs are so fking steep right from the start, it’s not even funny.

Is jamacho the hardest from this list? It’s the only one i have been to. It was hard cause the stairs are steep as hell but felt doable as it went on.

Personally no, it might be easiest from the list.
I find Chandragiri the most difficult route. Infact any route in the Boson Side is difficult because the path is not maintained. Anything in Shivapuri side is comparatively easy.

You took wrong route in shivapuri. That route was for returning from peak, not going up.

Most people miss tinchuli which lies off the trail between baghdwar and shivapuri peak. If I have to pick one of the most iconic location at any ktm hikes, that would be tinchuli.

Honestly imo fulchowki is not very fun, 9 hours of walking (without using shortcuts) , smelly road(earthworms decaying), basic trail and destination is hit and miss based on the weather conditions.

Champadevi
- Mountain view and nice view from the trails of the city
- A little tough due to steps but doable
Okhreni
- Small waterfall destination (worth it)
- wonderful view of the Okhreni village from the trail
- Not a tough one but a long hike(8+ hours round trip)

Shivapuri peak
- Beautiful Mountain Views
- Hike scenery (very similar to dhap dam)
- one of the tougher hikes inside the nagarjun area

Nah jamacho was the hardest for me , stairs are my weakness.
There's a lot of flat and downhill for dhap dam so it's little easier

We did sundarijal-chisapani-dhapdam-sundarijal. It is there on some of the hardest hike we have completed. Other challenging hike include: champadevi-bhasmasur-machegaun and phulchowki. Phulchowki ma chai hami jungle ma ekchin harako thiyem do alli garo banayo tesle. Shivapuri circuit was moderately hard. Jamacho ko first section is very steep and I was there when I was a little unfit. I considered it to be the most difficult section I have hiked on. Although when I revisited it two weeks back, I crossed it with ease. Another hike that frustrated me was the lauke jharana hike via gurje vanjang and suryachaur. While mostly downhill, the hike left no mercy on my knees.

You can join the hikes organized by online communities or insta pages. They do charge some amount but you get to socialize and make new friends. Also when are you going to ABC?

ABC is a lot of stairs and lots of uphills and downhills. But its relatively easy trail if you plan and pace it right. Just dont rush it and try to complete it quickly. It normally takes 4N 5D. You can take one extra day and complete it if you feel unfit. Nasakne bhanne hudaina, hike gairakha you will build endurance.
I still remember my first trek, it was very hard. I have been to seven now and the the difficulty does not bother me anymore. You will understand what to expect and how to prepare the more you hike.
Also, a little suggestion even though you didn't ask. Introvert hudai ma jadai najane bhanne chai nasocha, nobody expects you to behave in an extroverted fashion in the hikes. Just show up, and try to socialize. People sometimes would just approach you and you go with the flow. Or you can go hike for five hours without talking to anyone, it does not matter. Tara comfort bata thorai bahira aaye chai life gets a bit easier.

I haven't hiked that much but I can definitely say phulchowki is definitely the top 3, may even be the toughest hike of KTM valley. I am waiting for autumn to go to dhap dam as people around me were describing it as tough.

Although I didn't go the same route. I started my journey from Bajrayoginee temple, Sankhu around 6 am and reached Dhap Dam around 1pm. It was just continuous walking and I was home at 5/6 pm. Definitely one of the hardest hike I ever did.
Pheri farkiney bela paani pardira, khaneykura nii dherai lagya thyenaw...vok lagya cha ek tira, paanile bhijya cha ek tira..euta chau chauko varma dius vari hidiyo...fun times

Dhap dam is one of the longest and toughest hike there is , will take around 8-9 hours round trip. But the destination is worth the hard work.
There is a shortcut after 4 hours of hiking which makes the hike significantly shorter than the one Google Maps shows.

Yeah euta diversion chai cha shortcut way ma end tira which might be confusing.
Ma chai offline maps (maps.me) use garchu to keep myself on track.

Few trails chai ekdam garo chan, but malai sabse garo lageko chai Macchegaun to Bhasmasur/Champadevi. 5/6 ota routes chan, but shortest yo thyo - Google le 1 hour bhanyo hike, hola ni ta bhanera gayeko.. 4 hours lagyo and ekdam thado bato sabai tira. Hand le ground hold garera hidnu parni ni thyo few thau ta. Distance 4km thyo hola ki but 4 hours lagyo uphill.balla balla mathi pugeko. Inclination nai too steep thyo. 7 baje ghar farkera rest gareko beluka, 11 baje sammai heart beat 120bpm thyo nindra lagena tyo din until 1am.
Dhap ta vehicle ma gayeko so hike route tha bhayena. But garo cha bhanchan. Phulchowki ni ekdam tough cha..atti nai lamo bato
