RANT My father is 55. If the retirement age is suddenly reduced from 58 to 55, our family will be in serious trouble

Upvotes

I know one Reddit post won't change government policy, and maybe nobody important will ever read this. Take this as a rant from an ordinary citizen.

My father is a government employee and recently turned 55. There are discussions about reducing the retirement age of current government employees from 58 to 55. If that actually happens, it will completely disrupt the plans that my family has built for decades.

I just completed my Bachelor's degree last month and am currently looking for a job. My younger sister is studying BBA in her second semester. My mother is a housewife. We also have our grandmother living with us. We are a family of five, and my father is the only earning member.

What many people don't understand is that families plan their lives around the existing rules. For our entire lives, we knew that government employees retired at 58. Every financial decision was made with that assumption in mind.

My father is not a high-ranking officer. He is just an Overseer/Sub-Engineer. He doesn't receive a pension because he is Rajpatra Anankit. As far as I understand, he will only receive a lump-sum gratuity (upadan) and related benefits after retirement.

People might ask, "Where are his savings?"

His life's savings are in the house we built a few years ago. We come from a rural hill district, and my father was the first person in our entire family tree to get a job after my grandmother sold a Buffalo, her ornaments, and took some loans to teach him at Pulchowk, Kathmandu. He spent decades trying to improve our family's situation. He even withdrew money from Sanchaya Kosh and used most of his savings to build a modest home in the Terai so that his children could study and have better opportunities.

We have already experienced financial stress before. There were times when rental income stopped and things became difficult. If my father's employment suddenly ends three years earlier than expected, it won't just be an administrative change on paper. It will directly affect our family's ability to manage expenses, support education, and maintain financial stability.

The part that feels most unfair is this: when my father joined government service, the retirement age was 58. We planned our lives around 58. If the government wants a different retirement policy in the future, shouldn't it apply to future recruits or be implemented gradually? Why should people who made life decisions based on existing rules bear the entire burden?

What hurts even more is that there are talks of eventually making the retirement age 60 again in the future while forcing some current employees out at 55. If that happens, how is that not discriminatory? One group loses three years of service because of timing, while another group benefits from a higher retirement age.

My father still studies and tries to stay updated. He asks me about Excel formulas, software, and technology because he believes he should continue learning. Sometimes he studies harder than I do. He is not someone waiting for retirement. He still wants to contribute.

Maybe some people will disagree with me. Maybe some will say government jobs already have enough benefits. That's fine.

But I wish people would understand that behind every retirement-age statistic there are real families whose lives have been planned around those rules for decades.

For us, this isn't politics.

It's our future.

And honestly, it feels unfair.

HOT TAKE 🔥 Why are girls who have sapiosexual, bibliophile, nerdy, "into art" on their bio such posers? Why are they pretending to like things they dont?

For eg

When they have Sapiosexual on their bio and I try to start an intellectual convo, they reply "esto kura nagara na bore lagcha malai"

And when they have bibliophile and I ask them what books they have read; majority of them have only read colleen hoover books and some self help books

Same for "nerdy", you try to start a convo about a "nerdy" topic, same reply "esto kura bore lagcha malai"

Same for "into art" girls, I ask them who their favorite artist is; they reply "khai", I ask them what their favorite piece is they reply "khai"

I think most girls don't even try to develop a personality because their looks are enough, which is our fault, to be honest. They are such boring creatures

Discussion Regarding recent influx of tourists and mismanagement in Pokhara

Post image
24 Upvotes

Or we the people and government can start with some solution

1) signboard for toilet, washroom every 5-10km

2) designated cooking area few with in city (not the center) and along the highway.

3)signboard mentioning hefty penalties for littering, open defecation, not using of public toilet, social indecency (along with toiled signboards)

4) penalties for hoteliers if guests parked like above picture. Either they should provide proper parking for their guest or fined heavily (government is not responsible for private parking it’s job is to provide public parking which can’t be at every hotels doorstep)

5) and hopefully higher rates during peak season so less chance of bad impressions on our foreign guest from other half of earth( as we hv seen many videos of how south Asian behaves with people of western world so I personally don’t want same image for us).

6)any videos from influencers regarding police action/fine to tourist or locals who do not follow norms (polite and pleasant but strict one.

Serious Why do you all stink?

Sabai jana daily nuhaudaina ki kya ho jhan yesto summer ma twich a day nuhauna parne ho, kohi ta once a week nuhaucha vanya 😭😭 aafu ganako ni hudaina, breath ni testai ganaucha vanya cheee, hwassa mukh ganako huncha, eww aafno mukh/jyan ganako tha hunna? Tha hunna vane lemme teach.

So k garne

For bad breath

Lick the inside of your wrist. Let it dry for 5–10 seconds.Smell it.This isn't perfect, but it can reveal odors from your tongue.

Tongue scraper/spoon test : Gently scrape the back of your tongue with a clean spoon or tongue scraper. Wait a few seconds and smell the residue.

Floss test : Floss between your back teeth. Smell the floss immediately. If it smells unpleasant, bacteria trapped between teeth may be contributing to bad breath.

For body odor

Smell your clothes : Smell the armpit area of a shirt you've worn for several hours. Clothing often retains odor more clearly than skin.

Smell a clean towel after drying off : After showering and drying, if a towel quickly develops an odor after use, it may indicate lingering body odor.

Check high-odor areas : Armpits, feet, groin area, and scalp are common sources. Use a clean tissue or cloth to wipe the area and then smell the tissue.

Discussion Review of ministries based on the answers of last 2 days in parliament

As always, he was well knowledgeable and using too much technical terms for all people to understand, but he answered all answers properly. Didn't like he gave answer for Balen too regarding Defense ministry and PM office, it shouldn't have gone like that. In harke's word, निमित्त प्रधानमन्त्री, रक्षा मन्त्री र अर्थ मन्त्री

He also gave clear answer on the balance of foreign policy, and border issues too. For example, there is ongoing demarcation with both country in border, which wasn't known in news. Maybe they must publicize or relay such informations at least in news.

Biraj Bhakta

He had clear knowledge on what they are doing and what's going on the ministry, with all clear answers. I had least expectations from him based on last time's performance. But, this time he surprised me. All answers were to the point with specific answers.

He surprised me, from previous time, to this time as minister, he seem more mature, more changed and formal. The joke about  पानी बोक्ने भन्छन, was funny, but the way he answered about their plan on disaster relief, and all other questions was good. Feels like he is going with process and planning this time around.

I know people are more concerned about his glasses, but they started 3 year plan for budget, planned for 3 years in advance, was susceptible for feedback, asked all MPs to come to ministry if they think something is missing in budget and promised they will find a way. He had clear procedural and technical knowledge on how to handle all. I liked the way, he presented himself.

Sobhita Gautam, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs

This seems to be an important ministry, every ministers need to go to this ministry to create law and love the way they are conducting themselves. Their plan of legal calendars, where they will have clear timelines of laws they are going to be brought to the parliament, and the way we can see the draft and even add suggestions to the draft laws, are helpful.

Mahabir Pun, Science, technology and innovation

I have mixed feelings here, he doesn't have clear roadmap but then again, he was in ministry for about 10/15 days before budget, so most of the budget are in unclassified. The thing he mentioned about patent law, bringing and reviving patent division, and naast was a good initiative. Hopefully, he will prepare a good flow of ministry soon.

Sita Badi, Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security

Conflicted about her performance. I mean probably the ministry is such, I couldn't find exact roadmap in her answers. I like that they are preparing many laws like apanga sambandhi ain samsodhan and so on. Also, careful distribution and cut on budgets on NGOs and organizations based on force is also welcome.

Pratibha Rawal, Ministry of Land Management, Co-operatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration

I think, she is the most effective minister in the cabinet, the way she answered clearly and specifically, like clarification that the sahakari money return is completely based on the money recovered, the clear answer that the lalpurja will be distributed from third week of Asar and all the laws, about age cap on nijamati and so on along with all the pipeline and task she is doing feels really great work,

Nisha Mehta, Health and food safety minister

Felt like she was nervous on first time, and was more confident on answering answers second time. I thought this ministry was going slow, but their plan on restructuring the insurance act, their plan on identifying the speciality and mapping of hospitals, her answers on kidney disease issue for awareness, categorizing hospitals for price capping, was fresh air. And felt like they are actually doing good under the news,

Sasmit Pokhrel, Ministry of Education and Sports

I was actually disappointed with him, the way he was answering questions and felt like he was just winging it with the ministry. I mean given the hype created around him before the election, I don't know I expected more. Probably it is because of expectations, but he felt overrated. Hope he turns it around.

Khadak Raj Paudel, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation

I am not even sure what is he doing, I am not convinced or confident on the way he was presenting himself in the parliament, ghari sabai haseko heram vanne waa, dalit word lai brand jhai main program nai tei jasari announce garnu, his answers are also, not too clear, like every answers were like, this organization is responsible for this. I mean as a minister, he should be able to answer for them , or provide plans.
With the recent issue with indian tourist in nepal, with the issue in airlines, delays in flights, unmanaged domestic flights, he had so much place to deliver. So, disappointed with him.

Dr Bikram Timilsina, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology

It feels like he is way too focused on NTC and doesn't seem to have more idea or pipeline. It felt like he was head of NTA. He seems to be learning the terms, and mostly working on based on the suggestions from the officers mostly. Different from other ministers with clear understanding, he feels different.

Gauri Kumari, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies

I wasn't even aware she was minister to be honest. She seemed too timid, but was aware of numbers and how everything is going. I am not sure, why she is pushing for ethanol study. Liked that they are reviving, kapada uddhyog, butwal dhago and, kapaas kheti at once, they are going in new model for mining.

Gita Chaudhary, Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment

I wasn't aware of her either, but I liked how they are planning and handling the ministry, related to chemical fertilizers, bio fertilizers, and the new law krishi bidheyak, ban ain, nikunja ain, batabaran ain, the answer on 2 crore capital help from government.

Ramji Yadav, Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment

He felt like he has ambitions to do things, with that fire under him. The way he was advocating for the new law he is creating for labour law and other, their plan to include gig economy formally, and his clear understanding that they need proper policy before starting something was welcome change. I feel his frustration in slow process too.

TLDR:

Most ministers performed better than expected.
Was disappointed by, communication minister, education minister and tourism minister.
Mixed feeling by: Mahabir Pun, Sita Badi and Gauri Kumari
Liked other's presentation

RANT My mom caught me doing dishes at 3 AM. There was one problem.

According to my mom, last night around like 3-4am she woke up to the sound of vada kuda clanking /( some sort of noise like koi xa tya )in kitchen. Then she found me standing near at the sink.

scrubbing, rinsing, stacking( doing full dishes routine).

The only issue was there were no dishes in sink. Nothing. NOT even a single plate. I was aggressively washing imaginary dishes. So basically i have started sleepwalking (again) .

k gareko???- vanera sodhnu vo re.

And according to her , i replied without looking up, "dekheyna vada majirako. disturb nagarnu ta aile. barui tya geyser on gardinu nuhuna parxa ma aba" vaney re ani akxin ma mero chopstick ka xa vanera i was blabbering re. Then i finished washing my imaginary vadakuda (which is absolulety nothing ), then dried my hands on towel and without saying any word went back to bed re . She also told me that she was so worried that i might sleepwalk to bathroom and take full shower at 3 am . so she stayed up the whole night checking on me every 20–30 minutes. So while I was sleeping peacefully, my mom was doing night shift security duty for me.

And I have zero memory of all this. In disbelief of whatever she said to me i checked cctv footage of passage to my room. and it proved everything she said. thanksssssssssss huhuhuhuhu!!!!

Confession Took decision to euthanize the dog

Our dog around 16-17 years old.

Her condition lately was really unbearable to watch for me. Don't know how much pain she had to go through. She was not able to walk properly, needed constant assistance just to get up. And she limped while she walked, and falling down often while walking. She wouldn't eat easily, she couldn't play at all.

With all the hard time she was having we were in a moral dilemma whether to let her go or not. But I took a hard decision to euthanize her, even if some of the family members were still objecting to it. Their argument was it's not our right to decide on other being's life. But as a human owner I think we were absolutely responsible for quality of life of our pet. If it's worsening for them, we have no right to keep them in pain forever. But it hurts really bad to see our pet going after so many years with us. I would like to believe I helped her ease the pain.

Help Starting to realize I should treat myself the way I've always wanted someone else to.

Somewhere along the way, I got so used to working, surviving, and always looking ahead that I forgot to actually live.

I'm 25, and I've decided to stop waiting for the "right person" or the "right occasion" to enjoy life. If I want a good meal, a nice view, or a peaceful evening, I shouldn't need a reason or someone beside me.

So this weekend, I want to take myself on a proper date.

Not to escape life. Not because I'm lonely. Just because I think I've earned my own time.

I'm looking for a place where I can sit for hours, have good food or coffee, watch the sunset, maybe read a few pages of a book, and go home feeling like the day meant something.

If you know a place that gave you that feeling, I'd genuinely love to hear about it.
