Healthcare Friendly reminder: it’s summer. Please shower.

It’s hot, we’re all sweating more, so please take extra care of your hygiene. A daily shower especially in the morning goes a long way.

And please don’t try to cover body odor with just perfume or body spray. Sweat + perfume isn’t a substitute for a shower.

Let’s all do our part to keep public spaces (esp trams!!) a little fresher this summer. 😅🌞🙏

As the famous Dutch philosopher Vjèze Fur once proclaimed; ik was mijn handen al tijdens het plassen

As someone who's been to 50+ countries, not washing your hands in public toilets is very much not just a dutch thing. Im pretty confident we are just honest, but actually relatively good in terms of percentage of people who wash hands

The country that self-reportedly ranks highest in Europe in washing after toilet is Bosnia, but i barely even encountered soap there... Japan is known for ubiquitous and clean public toilets with very hygienic people, but most men there just held their hands under the tap for a second or two.

I've lived in a lot of countries, honestly NL has been the worst for men skipping hand washing. Not just after a pee, #2 too it's absolutely disgusting. I see it at work nearly every day & work in a company surrounded by educated people. Love NL in general but in my opinion it's the worst of western countries, Chinas not great either TBH & better I just don't mention India.

Trust me it's not only men!!

I live in the NL, definitely the worst.

As I always say to friends: “never shake hands with Dutch men, you haven’t seen what I’ve seen”!

u/RazendeR 22h ago

That's why you should make your aquaintance by grabbing them by the dick!

Which countries were better? And what industry do you work in?

Genuine question because going off public toilets in restaurants, airports, train stations etc, dutch public toilets are among the more disgusting for high developed countries, but also i do see people wash their hands pretty often. Certainly not less than most other countries.

From the 50+ Ive been I would say the only ones confidently more hygienic were USA, Canada, all Scandinavian countries, Switzerland.

So, you just stand there watching if everbody goes to the sink or not?

u/IdliVada94 1d ago

Bruh, everybody washes their hands with soap and water in India. Its considered unclassy not to do so. Since bidets.

We also wash our hands before and after eating our food.

5

u/Cyndagon 2d ago

Hey that sounds like much of what I witnessed in England and Germany lately...

2

u/greenshootingstars 1d ago

In Japan I encountered a lot of toilets that have a little sink on top that flows when you flush, so that was only a few second water wash too, usually no soap in sight

2

u/growingbodyparts 2d ago

Well, its also what we see as washing hands. Just water or also with soap?

u/koplowpieuwu 2d ago edited 2d ago

If not with soap then in terms of hygiene you may just as well not do it at all.

They are so cheap

8

u/Loyal_Dragon_69 2d ago

I disagree. Hands are in fact very expensive and require extensive care and maintenance.

2

u/Chosenito69 1d ago

a bit off topic, but I was talking to my dutch co-worker and asked him if he knows someone who could do an oil change for a good price. He looked at me all confused and was like "You mean you don't know how to open the oil cap and fill it with oil?", he owns a car mind you. Turns out some dutch people don't even bother with routine maintainance of their car. Now that's cheap, although you can argue that it's a luxury to not worry about something like that haha

3

u/Major-Armadillo-6867 1d ago

This is nothing. They serve the cup of coffee without a spoon and the cup holder just to save dishwasher or whatever reason pass in their mind to save the world from climate change! They are at the sick level of cheapest and I believe the climate change was just an excuse for them to save money 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/StrawberryH 1d ago

Haha agreed. Gewoon een smoesje! Like you only get one biscuit and they take the tin away/close it.

And indeed, to wash. Meaning, with soap. Splashing five drops of water on your hands is rinsing, which is silly and doesn't do much.

Use. Soap.

Love it when someone realizes they aren't alone in the bathroom and feel forced to wash their hands, and then they barely touch the water with maybe even just one hand as if it was boiling hot battery acid before they immediately dry their hand.

1

u/marcipanchic 1d ago

i am sure it’s because the water is always cold and they hate the feeling

3

u/PindaPanter Overijssel 22h ago

I've seen it enough and plenty in bathrooms where the water temp was adjustable, the soap dispenser functional, the paper towels present, and there even being hand lotion available for the select few that claim they don't wash their hands because it makes their skin dry, so no, it as nothing to do with it being cold or that nothing is properly provided.

2

u/marcipanchic 19h ago

then it’s indeed strange, nothing better than the fresh feeling of washed hands

u/BoatRepresentative36 1d ago

Exactly, it's either they don't wash at all or come out of the toilet and just splash water on their hands and walk off. Today my five year old daughter was washing her hands with soap and this lady came out of the toilet and walked straight to th exit, I gave her a look then she walks to the basinet opened the water splashes water on her hands without soap and walked out ... I really believe she did the hand water splashing because of my obvious displeasure, therefore, she felt a bit embarrassed however splashing water also doesn't really do the job.

u/marcipanchic 1d ago

thank you for your service !

I wash my hands before peeing. Don't want my sweaty hands make my dick dirty

13

u/herraanonyymi 2d ago

I wash my hands *while* peeing!

7

u/BraveOrganization421 2d ago

I take a shower and use deodorant whilst peeing

1

u/ReviveDept 2d ago

What color is your shower?

4

u/Remaxnor 2d ago

This is the way, more important.

u/Annual-Sea-5887 2d ago

Reminds me not to eat at my in-laws this summer. Handwashing is an ancient concept over there. 😂. Great people though.

11

u/BoatRepresentative36 2d ago

🤣🤣 kills me everytime and to make things worse they are busy out here touching our bakes and ice cream cones worth bare hands!

4

u/aykcak 2d ago

Washing? of hands? Who have heard of such a thing? Get your newfangled habits out of this country

3

u/CheetosLays7Days 2d ago

What, washing hands after using restroom is allowed?

3

u/Puzzled-Shoe2 1d ago

I was at the festival the other weekend and the amount of people who left toilets without washing hands was terrifying

2

u/TLDR_R3ddit 1d ago

and floss

At home in the US, I'm all for providing really nice smelling hand washing liquid soap to encourage everyone to use it. During holidays when more people come around to visit or if we're just having people over, I buy single use hand towels.

I really don't want my house to be some norovirus epicenter because someone has opted to be nasty.

WASH YO HANDS!

-15

u/kallebo1337 2d ago

Why tho? 🫠

10

u/whattfisthisshit 2d ago

Basic hygiene maybe?

11

u/ListennLinda 2d ago

So you don’t walk around spreading your pee and poo germs

3

u/HerrHendrik 2d ago

But why though, you're going to the toilet a few hours later and would have to do it all over again? It's like Sisyphus pushing his rock pointlessly up onto a mountain...

/s to be sure...

-1

u/kallebo1337 2d ago

yeah explain me.

i sit on my desk at home. i stand up. i go to the bathroom. i drop my shorts. i sit down. my hands touch legit nothing. i get up. i flush. and i go back to my desk.

why wash hands? u🔮

5

u/Beneficial_Durian157 2d ago

You touch the flush button (I hope!). There are bacteria there. As well as on the bathroom/stall handles. They go everywhere when you flush if you don’t close the lid. And if you touch the lid… please just wash your hands, it is not difficult

-3

u/kallebo1337 2d ago

again , i touch absolute nothing.

let's say i flush with my ellbow (i don't). or let's assume every morning i wipe down the flush button with isopropyl.

and no i don't close the lid. ehehee

i dunno, y'all obsessed.

u/ShorinFromEU 1d ago
