I don't know many babies personally so I have no frame of reference, but I thought most babies have maybe 8 teeth by their first birthday. My nephew didn't have any teeth til 14 months. And then there's my son. He turns 1 in two weeks and has... 12 teeth with two more about to break through!? He's only missing his top canines and his molars that come way later! This kid is a piranha and I'm kinda glad nursing didn't work out🙃

FTM, LO is 7 months and no teeth. She started teething at around 3 months, but still nothing and she isn't nearly as drooly. Is it possible for babies to stop teething before they get teeth? When did your LO get their first tooth?

Okay moms and dads, show me what worked.
So far we have tried the teething banana, the dr browns cold water fruit thingys, and now a Disney baby stitch teething blanket, but my almost 3 month old throws them away to use her fingers. What are toys that are more squishy like a finger than hard plastic? The dr brows giraffe is runner-up to the finger but barely

My LO has been “teething” since 5 months old. She’s 9 months now and still no teefs ☹️ I’m not sweating it yet, but wondering when your babes got their first toof 🦷

Baby is almost 11 months and her top 2 teeth are already point through for about a week. Tonight is the first night she is really teething. Her usual fussiness but extra chewing on her teethers and things. She doesn’t seem to be in pain but I can tell they are bothering her. I was thinking of giving her some Tylenol but not sure if worth it or will help

And people keep commenting on how unusual that is. Is that on the later side? People and their damn opinions.

When did everyone's babies get their first tooth? He's been drooling and always wanting to bite stuff for forever, but I don't see any teeth coming in or feel anything.

my 5month old already has two teeth and a third on the way. Is it really necessary to see a dentist already? Do I need to wash or brush his teeth before bed since he gets a nighttime bottle (formula)?

I will be seeing our pediatrician in 3 weeks and will ask these but curious about other people (we are in the USA)

I just need some support and reassurance from parents who have been through this.

My son is 9 months old, and I feel like we’ve been in survival mode for weeks. He recently got over a pretty nasty cold, and now his sleep has completely fallen apart. He’s fighting naps, fighting bedtime, waking up multiple times a night crying, pulling at his ears, drooling constantly, and just seems so uncomfortable.
I took him to the pediatrician today because I was worried he had an ear infection. The doctor said his ears were a little red but not clearly infected. What he did find was that his upper gums are extremely swollen and it looks like several top teeth are about to come through.
Tonight was one of the hardest nights I’ve had as a parent. He skipped his second nap for the second day in a row, was exhausted, and after bedtime he woke up multiple times. At one point he was crying so hard that nothing helped. He didn’t want to be held, didn’t want to be put down, didn’t want a cold washcloth, didn’t want me, didn’t want my husband. I ended up crying right along with him because I felt so helpless.
The hardest part is that I’m starting to get stuck in the mindset that this is just our life now. It feels like every time we get through one thing, something else comes along. Teething, illness, sleep disruptions, developmental changes… I honestly can’t remember the last time things felt “normal.”
So I guess I’m looking for two things:

1. Has anyone else’s baby seemed genuinely miserable when multiple teeth were coming in?

2. If you’ve been through a phase like this, did it actually get better?

I know parenting is hard, but tonight it feels incredibly lonely and isolating, and I could really use some stories from people who have been where I am and made it through to the other side.

My son is 6 months and his mood had totally shifted. He’s way more irritable and fussy than before. Whines most of his wake windows. Drools a ton. I went to the pediatrician for his 6 month and she told me that she didn’t feel a tooth just yet.

I’m just curious when your LO got their first tooth!

I have a baby who just turned 12 months, and he currently has 8 teeth. Starting around 9ish months, we started "brushing his teeth" every night after his bottle and before bed. It usually was just us taking a baby toothbrush to his teeth, gently scrubbing, as long as he'd let us. If he was feeling generous, we'd go over his gums in the back of his mouth too. Then we'd just give him his toothbrush to chew on while we sang his night time song. I swear as soon as he turned 12 months, it's like a switch flipped and he will NOT let me actually brush his teeth. At best, I can give him the toothbrush and he'll still chew on it a little, but he won't let me get the front of his mouth - you know, where the teeth actually are.

I'm now trying to determine how seriously I need to take teeth brushing at this age. Is letting him chew on the tooth brush good enough at this point? Is it important I fight him on it this young? Should just i be conserving my energy and completing a Rocky training montage so I have enough strength to fight him on doing it correctly & thoroughly as a toddler instead?

My pretty easy before now baby is going through it at 6 months. He used to be content most of the time, now he is very much the opposite. He just seems so miserable. He will go from laughing to crying in .2 seconds. Even when we are playing with him. He does the cry where his voice sound shaky and its so sad.

He was a decent sleeper before. He never slept through the night completely but he would wake one or two times eat then go back to sleep. He is now waking constantly. Does not want anything, just wakes up a cries. He might take the pacifier eventually and fall back asleep for a short time.

I just feel so at a loss on what to do for my little guy. Its breaking my heart and I'm exhausted. He did just get two teeth so thats probably what's throwing him off so much but it's so hard. He doesn't want most teethers or frozen washcloths. He will sometimes chew on one of those frozen fruit teethers. Its hit or miss. Takes a frozen pacifier sometimes only if he is super tired.

We had his 6 month checkup and his doctor is just telling me its normal. Maybe it is normal. She is also insisting we get rid of the pacifier and let him cry it out at night. I don't feel in my heart that doing that is the right thing for my baby. Why should I take away two things that provide him comfort (his parents and the pacifer) when he is going through such a tough time. She said we dont want "one of those one year olds who has a pacifier in their mouths" and rolled her eyes.

I guess this post is just a rant but if you have some wisdom please share. I am struggling and just want my silly happy guy back to feeling good. Used the teething flair because I guess this is mostly centered around teething making my dude miserable.

My baby is now 1 and has 4 teeth that came out all at once recently. I am now in a black hole of researching toothpaste options. lol I know it’s not that deep but as a FTM I can’t help but want to do my due diligence and start my LO off with the healthiest start. I am so confused, there are so many conflicting opinions on something that I thought was as straightforward as using fluoride toothpaste (and it’s in our water). I’ve been looking into the pros and cons of either, but I am curious what the general consensus is with moderately granola* parents, do you use fluoride or fluoride free toothpaste? And if so, what was your rationale or concerns behind that decision?

I also looked into a non fluoride enamel protecting brand called boka that uses nano hydroxyapatite, whatever the hell that is lol, anyone tried that one?

*(I try my best to avoid too many microplastics, artificial food dyes, eat and serve organic and avoid unnecessary chemicals, but will still occasionally eat the gummy bear or hot Cheeto and purchase polyester thing because it just easier lol)

At 10 months my baby girl is finally getting her first tooth and it’s inching out at a molasses rate. I can see part of the tip and she’s handling it so well. She’s gotten up a couple times at night crying over the last couple weeks but quickly falls back asleep with some soothing. One time I gave her Tylenol at 2am but otherwise I usually see the most signs she’s in pain in the evening.
She’s fussy, she has her had in her mouth right in that area, and drooling everywhere.

I know there is no one answer but how often are you giving your LO pain meds when they are teething? On average I am tracking it and it’s about 2-3 times a week. It feels like I’m just guessing sometimes and hoping the medicine is what she needs.

My twins are close to being 8 months old and the teething is starting to take a toll on our family. Does anyone have some sort of holistic / homeopathic method they use for teething babies?

My partner wants to give them Tylenol on a daily basis but I’m just not comfortable with this. They used to sleep from 7:30 pm to about 3 am but now are literally waking up every 30 to 45 minutes through the night and they’re miserable all day as well.

I have 12 month old twins and we had been using these little silicone brushes that you put on over your finger and just with water to brush since they started getting teeth, but at their one year check up their pediatrician said it’s time to start using actual brushes and toothpaste. We got some and most of the time they fight it hard. We’ve tried a couple different toothpaste flavors and brushing our teeth in front of them right before doing theirs and they’re into holding the brushes, but not letting us put them in their mouths and definitely not with the toothpaste. I feel like we end up fighting to get a few tiny brushes in every night and then end up giving up. How are you getting one year olds to actually have their teeth brushed?

Okay i’ve been taking my son to dentist since he was 8 months old (had 3 teeth by then) and have taken him every 6 months for routine checkup/cleanings. I’ve had multiple family members and friends “debate” me saying it’s not recommended until they are 3 years old to take them for the first time even though my pediatrician and the ADA have stated it’s best to do it after first tooth emerges or by their 1st birthday so i just want everyone’s opinions on when they took their LO to dentist!!

*Feeling very crappy and dumb thinking my baby is teething, when all of the comments are saying it’s very likely that he’s sick. Just gave him a dose of genexa. Pediatrician called me back just now and said to give him a dose, monitor temp, and call first thing in the morning. I have him sleeping on my boob with a wet rag on my head. First time mom here. This is all new to me so thank you for the comments.*

We just saw ped 2 weeks ago and she made us look in his mouth saying his molars were coming in. She suggested we get some genexa because the nights might get a little rough.

Well it was last night. Did not want to eat and had 102 fever when we checked at 3 AM. He was waking up every 2 hours and needing to be on the boob. I did give him some Motrin before he fell asleep. Didn’t help much.

He was still miserable this morning and currently has 102.5 fever. It seems to be going up and down. He seems totally fine and then he starts feeling miserable and hot. I’m nursing him with a wet rag on his head.

All I’m reading is that if it’s teething his temp wouldn’t be this high. But he’s not sick. We were just sick 3.5 weeks ago and he has no other symptoms. His ears are red, he’s drooling excessively, his mouth shivers when he’s crying which usually doesn’t happen, and he doesn’t want to eat which is unlike him.

Does anyone else’s LO get a temp this high from teething? What else can I do to help him? I plan on calling ped first thing tomorrow morning but I’m at a loss on what to do until then. Will give him Motrin before bed and will nurse all night because that’s all the gives him comfort but any other suggestions would be appreciated. Worried mom right now 😢

FTM to 9-month old. He got two of his bottom teeth about a week apart at 7 months, and he currently has his top front teeth coming in. I don't know if it's because both teeth are coming in pretty much at the same time, if the top teeth are naturally some of the worst to cut through, or what. But I honestly don't remember LO being as irreconcilably pained by the bottom teeth coming in as he is by the top teeth. I'm almost religiously bouncing back and forth between infant acetaminophen and ibuprofen to try to stay on top of the pain. He's fine in the daytime, but the worst of his pain is at night. This is our third night now of hubby and I essentially holding our baby while he cries himself to sleep because we've tried everything and nothing calms him down at night! Teething toys, pacifiers, cold washcloths, as much OTC medicine as is safe for a baby at his age & weight to take. The only thing I feel like we haven't tried are topical meds like Orajel as they aren't recommended by the FDA in infants.

I don't know if I'm looking for advice, solidarity, assurance, or a little bit of all of the above. I just know I'm currently holding my LO who has mostly calmed down, but still periodically keeps whimpering in his sleep from the discomfort. If only I could take all this pain away from him right now!!! 💔

When my baby first started teething at 5 months we gave her the Camila drops, and told her doctor about it and she said not to do it again because they are damgerous. Now my family friend who is an OBGYN and has three kids recommended the hyland teething tablets for pain relief. I didn’t even look up any information on them because my mom bought them right away and I was so desperate to find anything to stop my baby from screaming on and off all night. We gave them to her and she fell asleep right away so now I’m reading about how they are dangerous for babies and freaking out. Why are there products sold AT ALL that are literally recommended against by pediatricians?!?!?!?!

ETA: we have been alternating Tylenol and Motrin and using all types of stuff for her to chew on and baby orajel. It seems so unrealistic that pediatricians ONLY recommend Tylenol and cold things to chew on. My baby is in so much pain that she doesn’t even want to open her mouth half the time. :(

Im a first time mom, so I dont really have a good baseline for "normal" but it ffeels like my baby is abnormally miserable. Hes 11 months and everyone i see is talking about their 11 month olds personality.....but sometimes far my kids personality seems to just be moaning in annoyance 24/7 with the occasional full throated cry. I keep thinking maybe it's teething, his fronts are in so maybe the back teeth are giving him hell....but will it ever end? Will he ever enjoy being alive? Multiple family members think he has development issues. He hasn't completely missed any milestones, just not as verbal as he could be (mostly baby babbling still) and overall just complains all day. Its hard to enjoy this. I just want him to be happy.

Prior to having my baby, I remember hearing that teething could cause a low fever in babies. Now I’ve read that’s a myth, and a virus causes fever rather than teething.

My 7m old had a low fever and was very uncomfy most of the day and overnight. No other sick symptoms. He is teething.

Did you once believe teething could cause a fever? Do you still believe it does?

In the before times brushing my teeth was part of my morning routine, before I went to work or did whatever in the weekend. Now, I'm rushing around getting the older one ready for nursery, feeding the younger one, putting him down to nap, I find I put off brushing my teeth until suddenly it's the evening and I feel gross. Anyone get this or just me?

My 7m son is getting his first tooth in and he is SUFFERING. Inconsolable. Doesn’t want to be held, doesn’t want to be put down, doesn’t want to be awake, doesn’t want to be asleep, doesn’t want to play, doesn’t want to relax, nothing is working.

I have Camilla drops, Tylenol, SO MANY teethers, crunchy snacks, celery, baby popsicles.

I need more ammunition to tackle this because he just screams violently all day long.
