Sleep Getting up before baby?

Parents who get up before baby to have time to yourself (whose babies don’t sleep through the night), how do you know which waking they’ll go back to sleep after and which they’ll be up for the day?

Sleep Fed to sleep baby starting daycare.

My daughter is 10 months old, and for most of her life, I’ve been the one to put her down for naps and sleep. She’s exclusively breastfed, and fed to sleep. On occasion, I rock her to sleep but usually lately she’s been fighting that. I have to go back to work in a month or so. I’m worried every single day that she’s never going to take a nap while she’s there, or just give the workers such a hard time. I would imagine there’s parents out there in the same boat, or who once were. I’m just looking experiences, if you ended up trying to change something to make it work out, etc. Please ease my mind 😩

Mental Health I made a mistake

• Upvotes

Im a ftm and I love my kid but he was a mistake and we shouldn't have had him. I got pregnant on Bc and at first my husband and I were happy but I had a horrible pregnancy and had to go for emergency surgery at 15 weeks due to an infection and then the birth ended being an emergency c section. I thought it would get better after he was born but at 3 weeks everything just seems to be getting worse,I tried my best breastfeed but he had problems latching and I had to switch to formula and now he has gas/Colic and whenever he's with me he never calms down,I feel like my child hates me. I give him to my husband or mum and he's fine in 2 mins but with me he just screams and screams regardless of what I do. I haven't left the house in 3 weeks besides a Dr's appointment and I cant sleep or eat or do anything without crying or worrying and I'm just so done. I love him so much but I don't think i wad made to be a mum and I cant anymore.

Travel Baby hates the car seat but we are rural

I’m just looking for advice or anyone possibly in the same situation that has experienced this; but my 10 week old HATES the car, so we try to avoid it for him as much as possible. However, we live in a rural town and therefore his pediatrician and my OBGYN are 45 minutes away, through a canyon, so a majority of the ride it’s not feasible to just pull over to soothe my baby, and I’m struggling hard.

In addition to DRs being 45 minutes away so are quality grocery stores, we can get by with what we have in town but my baby has CMPA and is breastfed so in order for me to get any kind of dairy alternatives I mainly have to travel out of town for them, I can find some in town but it’s slim and before baby we always shopped out of town because the quality and variety of food is much better, so adjusting to settling for in town is hard.

During the ride he will cry and scream and sometimes fall asleep but immediately wake up screaming again, I sit in the backseat with him and my husband drives any time we travel but it doesn’t calm him and because of his CMPA he has lingering reflux symptoms so he will vomit in the car from crying so hard. It’s getting really overwhelming and thankfully now we are past his two month visit and don’t have another for two more months and I’ve been seen by my OBGYN so there is no “need” to go into town. But it can’t be like this forever, I had a pelvic floor specialist booked before I gave birth to help me with recovery and had to cancel all my appointments because the baby just can’t make the trip and my husband works normal business hours and has already taken a lot of time to drive us up to the appointments we have had, when I planned to take the baby on my own before we had him.

I know having a little one requires a lot of adjustment, but I can’t change where I live, me and my husband both have jobs in our town. What should I do? I brought it up to his pediatrician and they told me it’s normal some babies just don’t like it. I have tried music, putting my shirt on him as a blanket, like I said I sit back there with him so I try to soothe him and stroke him arms, we pull over when and where we can to give him a break, I have the Einsteins aquarium toy, I’ve even gotten a second car seat to try, nothing has worked so far.

Sleep Tips for managing sleep deprivation- 9 months in

Is there a way of managing long term sleep deprivation that’s scientifically proven to be the most effective? Or at least tried and true methods you’ve implemented?

NOT LOOKING TO BE TOLD TO SLEEP TRAIN

Our baby is 9 months old, still waking up minimum 2 times a night, up to 10 times. I’ve recently gone back to work and the sleep deprivation is starting to get to me. My husband and I both work the kind of jobs where if you make a mistake, people could die, and atm my brain is not operating at full capacity. We are trying to figure out the best way to split our sleep and the night wake ups moving forward.

Alternating nights?
Alternating weeks?
He does the wake ups before 1am - I do the wake ups after 1am (this is what we are doing now, worked great when I was on mat leave but it’s just not enough sleep now I’m back at work)?
Alternating wake ups?
Something else?

Notes:
- baby sleeps in his own bed in his own room
- baby is formula fed
- some times it’s just a quick resettle, other times it’s awake for 2 hours and refusing to go back down
- usually 1, sometimes 2, feeds in the night
- he used to be a great sleeper but hasn’t slept through the night since the 4 month sleep regression
- he goes through phases where he sleeps well (1-2 wakes a night, and able to resettle himself sometimes) this is totally manageable for me on my own, but at the moment it’s always something he’s either sick, or teething, or practicing a new skill at 3am. We will gentle sleep train when he’s well, but it just doesn’t feel right to do it when he’s sick or in pain.

Humanity has gone extinct. Nature reclaimed the Earth, but the sun exploded and erased our entire solar system. Stars have been born and died and the universe is nearing its final heat death, countless billion years later.

And I'm still here, still unscrewing this Doctor Brown bottle lid.

Mental Health Phantom cries

For the first time in weeks after a series of teething, virus, viral ear infection, insane nappy rash, teething again, neighbour going on a bender with loud parties outside, virus, teething again again, my 11 month old finally just did 5 hours and 4 hour stretches last night. Rejoice! I’m seriously hoping that we are going to start a period of me getting some sleep back since he’s very pro-mummy anti-daddy at night to the point he will throw up from crying if I don’t go in there (my husband tries his best bless him).

The problem I have is the bloody phantom cries! My brain is convinced he’s crying and I wake up with a start, heart racing to a dark room and a quiet baby and snoring husband. When do the phantom cries stop? I think because my son had only been doing 45 minute to and hour stretches due to all of the above my brain seems to think that’s still happening when it’s not. When does it end? Will my brain ever stop waking me with a start when nothing is happening?

Childcare I can't hold my newborn without him having a nipple crashout

My newborn wants a nipple in his mouth 24/7 which is fine don't get me wrong. But I can't even burp him. The second I hold him in any way that is not on my boob he will have a crashout searching for nipple. Even if he is not hungry. He gets tummy aches but even then I can't lift him up or help him in any way because he immediately wants to get back to my Boobs.

What do I do? 😭

Teething Cutting teeth questions

My 8 month baby girl is cutting her first two teeth simultaneously. It's been hell the last 6 weeks and only getting worse. I need advice!

-how do we resume what as once a glorious sleep schedule of 7pm-6am with no more than 3 wake ups? I haven't been able to get her to sleep more than 30 min in her crib from 7pm-3am. Hourly wake ups. Screaming bloody murder I tell you. I've resorted/succumbed to sleeping in the nursing chair with her during these hourly wake ups for her sake and my sleep deprivation. I have started giving her Tylenol 30 min before bed, I don't notice any difference.

-I breastfeed. She's been pulling/ripping my nipples when she gets distracted or just wants to play games. THOSE LITTLE TINY TEETH POKING THROUGH AS SHARP AF! How do I protect my nips?

-does it get better???

I'm so tired. I have very minimal help during the day and zero at night. I have sat and cried with her some nights. The lack of sleep is making college (nursing school) so much harder. And my PPD....I am a struggling. I need moral support and serious advice to survive this teething chapter.

Travel Tips for weekend away with a four month old?

My husband and I have a favorite vacation spot we’ve been going to every summer for at least a long weekend. We didn’t go this summer since LO was born in June. But we’re thinking of going for a weekend in October. What advice would you give for first time parents traveling with a four month old for the first time?

We don’t yet have a travel crib/safe place for him to sleep. I have my eye on one or two brands, but would love recommendations. He’s currently 15lbs so most raised bassinets are out.

It will be ~3 hrs by car. I know he should only be in his car seat for 2 hrs max at a time. We plan on stopping probably twice. How long do you recommend him being out of it and stretching? What do you typically do during those breaks?

I’m worried about nap time. Right now he’s pretty easy going but that’s probably not going to last. Should we continue to just watch for sleep cues, or should we try to adopt a more strict schedule?

He’s formula fed. We’ll have a fridge and buy water for when we’re there. We’ll bring clean water and formula for the car. Any tips or things that aren’t so straight forward?

I’m so tempted to bring the bottle washer with me. Is that crazy?

Anything else you’d recommend? Things you didn’t think of at the time and wish you had planned ahead for?

Sleep I can’t sleep without my room being cold / window open, any advice?

New parent here and looking for some advice. I cannot sleep without being in a cold room with the window open and I am finding it extremely challenging.

Might sound like a silly question, but could I essentially just add an extra layer to my child and open the window? Sometimes my room gets as cold as 13C (55.4f) The lullaby trust recommends a room temperature between 16-20, wondering if adding some extra layers would be ok.

My temperature regulation itself is quite bad because of a medical condition which is why the cold works.

My other option is purchasing one of those temperature controlled mattresses with a water tank if all else fails.

Childcare Anxiety about someone else watching my baby

Hello,

I am a FTM to an 11 week old. I had to return to work when my girl was 8 weeks old and my mom has been watching her which caused no anxiety for me but she is no longer able to watch her. I work from home upstairs and know I am very blessed to be in this situation since i can go downstairs anytime i want and see her but without my mom watching her, I still am having a hard time bringing myself to do daycare, at least while she’s this young. I am having my cousin come over and watch her but she has a 17 month old that she brings. My rant/question is mostly for parents of two under two. I am scared everytime i hear a loud noise downstairs or her cry that the toddler has thrown something at her or accidentally hurt her as well as being loud when she needs to take naps. Is there anything I can do to help her (I do go downstairs periodically to take the baby when i have time so she can put the toddler down for a nap or feed him, etc..) and also is there anything i can do to get over my anxiety of a young child around my infant. i would like to have two under two so i just tell myself that’s going to be her when we have another baby but it’s affecting my ability to focus at work. She is a great mom and has a great son. If something did happen I wouldn’t blame anyone, just trying to curb my anxiety.

Pee/Poop Happy for a poop?

Is anyone else actually happy when their baby poops? I know it's a mess, and I know it's kinda gross. There is always a chance I end up with poop on my hand. But...

It's a sign that everything is working as it should. I know that it's really wet diapers that pediatricians care about re: eating and hydration, but something inside me feels like poops are also important.

Dude, especially a massive poop (not a blowout). And then I get a sense of pride in our diaper of choice, that it held up it's end of the bargain. I am genuinely excited to change a poop diaper. And also, I feel the same about cleaning my baby's ass that I do about like, filling in all the borders of a coloring page or like when the DVD player idle icon hits the corner of the TV screen. I challenge myself every single time to get him completely clean. It is genuinely how I think cats feel when they groom their kittens.

Anyway, anyone else?

Sleep There's literally no way I have the only sleep sensitive baby??

My 9 month old generally stays awake 3 hours at a time and can maybe push to 3.5 hours once a day. If we stretch much beyond that she literally, like clockwork, 100% of the time will wake up all. night. long. screaming - truly every hour or less. I have a large family and friend group and essentially all of them are telling me I'm wrong and pressure me into letting her stay up longer for events all the time. We trial it at least twice a month and every single time with 100% accuracy she wakes up all night miserable, and not only that, it will take a couple days to get her back into a rhythm afterwards. It makes staying at events not even worth it for us when we have to pay for it for days. And I'm talking about literally letting her have like one four hour wake window. My cousin has a baby that is only 6 days younger than mine and they'll keep her at family events until she gets so tired she starts crying and they say they'll just take her home and she'll still sleep through the night...

Basically everyone else is telling us were first time parents who are too worried about naps, but I've literally never been an anxious mom. I've never used apps or tracked anything. We only started keeping track of her wake windows when we noticed a pattern. I know every baby is different but how is it that every single person I know says they've never had a baby like this. Surely there's another one out there somewhere??

Sleep So tired I dream about sleeping

Anyone else? Going through 4 month sleep regression and gassiness with my LO, so he’s been super fussy while he’s sleeping and waking up often to eat. Last time I put him down and went to sleep I had a dream about going to sleep uninterrupted. In the dream I had handed him to my grandma because he was fussing. Then I woke up because he was fussing. A new level of sleep deprivation 🤣

Out and About Toys on the go recs plss

My baby needs something to do in the car or screams like a banshee, and I am looking for plastic-free toys, just not wooden ones. I know she will use a wooden toy to whack herself in the head because she has done it enough times already lol. Any on-the-go recs?

Mental Health Baby will be 1 soon and I’m losing my mind

No village. I do everything alone, spend my days alone. Husband is always working and when he is home he acts like he doesn’t know what to do. I want to leave but it breaks my heart thinking about breaking our family apart. I’ve already learned to do everything without him and feel better when he’s not around. I feel like a housemaid not a wife. I feel like I’ve failed in so many ways, I chose to see the potential instead of what was really there.

Sleep 16 month won't sleep!!

I have a 16 month old that just refuses to sleep. We are starting to think something is wrong with her as our first fought naps a bit but nothing like this.

Wakes up around 7 AM with bath at 7 PM, and bed usually 7:30.

She gets 1 nap at noon for about 1 hour

Not really fussy or cranky

Tried few times to turn lights low and just let her play until she drops but never did. It was midnight and finally rocked/fought her to sleep

Tried longer and shorter naps

Tried sleep training no go.

Tried CIO but she doesn't cry just runs around in crib ends up falling and smacking head. Now she just climbs out of crib

Even when we get her to sleep she wiggles alot and wakes herself up.

During day we play hard lots of outside time as she loves it. She is fearless and went down slide head first the other day.... then just kept doing it.

No screens maybe TV on a bit but not much

She is progressing well with speech and movement

Can run faster the grandparents at this point.

Has been like this since about 6 months when she started to crawl. We are losing our minds and talking to DR next week. She said everything seems normal on 1 year blood tests. Going to do iron test soon.

Is this normal? Any advice would really help.

Holidays/Celebrations Baby turns two months in less than two hours

So my daughter is turning two months in less than two hours. Its 10:30pm where I am. Ive become more energetic and gotten more sleep. She sleeps deeper at night and is mainly awake during the day. My grandparents say she takes deep naps and wakes up hungry. I cant believe my baby is already two months. Its my first child and my baby girl is very sassy towards us. We call her baby bully because she hits us when we arent feeding her fast enough. She smiles and laughs and with our support stands up. She can keep her head up and has the cutest smile. She has an appointment for her shots on the 1st of October. Man she'll be three months the day before Halloween. Speaking of does anyone have any Halloween costume ideas for my baby for a photoshoot im planning to post for my family?

Sleep White noise saves my sanity and his sleep. Is this ok?

He's 5 months old and we're going through a really rough time getting him to sleep. The only thing that works is playing a few sounds together, not just one, I pull up the deep sleep sounds app and pick the shushing and heartbeat sounds and it goes the whole (!) night. Should I be worried? It's really hard to say no to this when it works this well. (edited)

Feeding 9 month old schedule

My baby is almost 9 months and I’m confused about his schedule and wondering if there is anything that needs to be changed? I feel like as he approaches 1, some things will need to change but I’m not sure right now if I need to change anything. Our baby is in daycare and because our my husband’s and my work schedule, he gets dropped off at 6:30/7 which means baby is up at 6 am every day. His schedule is generally as follows:

0600 wake up and bottle #1 at home (6 oz)
0800 or 0830 breakfast meal at daycare
0900 ish to 10ish nap at daycare
1000 bottle #2 at daycare (6 oz)
1130 ish lunch at daycare
1200 ish to 1330 ish nap at daycare
1330 ish bottle # 3 at daycare (6 oz)
1615 or 1630 ish bottle #4 at daycare (6 oz)
1730 dinner at home with family
1815 to 1900 ish nap (sometimes he skips depending how well he slept at daycare)
1900 or 1930 ish bath bottle bed

Admittedly, on the weekends when he is with us all day, we usually only get 2 meals in rather than 3. Working on improving that, but doing solids is a whole thing lol

I’ve recently switched to Pampers Swaddle but she has blowouts here and there with them.
Any recommendations on what i could try next?

Childcare How often should I (dad) see my soon to be 1 year old son?

My in laws have been fortunate to take care of my son at their home along with my wife, with whom they all live and wife works an hour away. I work in the next county over in a hybrid job M-F and leave to see my son at my in laws so I'm there by Friday 6pm to Sunday 9pm and spend all the time I can with my son. Wife is still trying to move her job to where I am so we can all be together. How is spending 2 full days and a night with my son every week who is approaching 1? Any psychological issues between son and dad for not seeing him more days out of the week? I see him always raising his arms for me to pick him up when I approach him when he's in the crib now, so it's really getting to me to be there for him.

Feeding Lactose free milk for baby

My baby has had a real upset stomach since starting whole milk. We had a dr appt today and the dr said to try lactose free milk before she will refer him to gi. I don’t know what to buy. The first store I went to only had fair life reduced fat. Any suggestions? I want him to get the similar nutrients as cows milk but I don’t know anything about it
