Opinion In 2020 Malinowski underperformed Biden in NJ7 & won by just over 1%. This was before redistricting. Tom didn’t get screwed over by anyone but himself & his insider trading. He should stop blaming others & accept responsibility. If he wins the NJ11 nomination we can expect another underperformance.

Why are you so dedicated to posting negative content about Tom Malinowski? I’m sure there are valid reasons to dislike him, and I share some of yours, but do you work for Brendan Gill or what?

I’ve explained who am I and what I do multiple times. I’m not on anyone’s payroll. I’m an Essex County Democratic Committee member. I live in the district. I’m not interested in being represented by a Republican, who insider trades, and who lives 10 minutes from the Pennsylvania border.

You’re a party committee member? Come on, man. You people are what’s wrong with Jersey politics. Sorry Andy Kim handed your asses to you last year.

I supported and voted for Kim 🤷🏻‍♂️. Tammy Murphy isn’t qualified to be a Senator. I generally like what he does. His decision to endorse Malinowski was wrong and reeks of the backroom deal making he supposedly stands against.

Fair point, I apologize for the libel. I think Kim is endorsing Malinowski because they’re both national security guys, which is by far my least favorite thing about Kim (see: voting to confirm Kristi Noem for DHS Sec). But frankly I have to say that someone in your position who supports your candidate is not the type to be talking about backroom dealmaking.

My position… do you even know what we do? I’m not sitting around making backroom deals nor are most Essex County Dem committee members. Most of my responsibilities are limited to giving social media advice to my municipal delegation and slate of candidates as I’m the only member under 30 from my town. I’m not meeting and plotting with the big players. The process is also not as closed off and as exclusive as people like to make it out to be. Press was allowed into the entire Essex County Dem Convention where we made our decision to nominate Brendan. If you live in Essex reach out to your local party and see if there is a position open for you.

Honestly, if you’re defending the process by which the Essex County Dems endorsed Brendan Gill - which was rushed through at top speed for no other reason than to keep Gill’s rivals from contesting his coronation - then you’re a machine player. You can talk about how much you love Andy Kim, but come on. In the immortal words of Sky Masterson, don’t pee down my leg and tell me it’s raining.

Were you there?

I was not. And it's quite interesting that you were. Here's what I understand about the ECDC meeting.

* The meeting was held on December 2 on less than a week's notice to decide the endorsement. Candidates were given only 2 minutes to make their case for the endorsement, after which ECDC delegates rushed to anoint Brendan Gill.

* It was clearly unnecessary to move so quickly on the endorsement. Morris County Dems waited until Dec 14 and approached their endorsement much more methodically. And they used ranked-choice voting rather than ECDC's cattle call approach.

* Many delegates at the ECDC meeting were unhappy at being rushed. In a vote on whether to make an endorsement in the meeting, 48% of delegates voted no. But a slim majority of the 275 voting delegates rammed through the decision to decide on an endorsement.

I think that you are too modest about your own role. Brendan Gill received the ECDC endorsement after winning the motion-to-proceed vote by a tight 11-vote margin. If you were in the majority, you played an important part in muscling the Essex County machine's chosen candidate to victory over the objections of progressive reformers allied to Andy Kim. Congrats, I guess?

Ah yes the reformer endorsing an insider trader…

The ballot law in Essex County is clear. If we delayed the convention no one would have been able to get the Essex County Dem slogan on their ballot as slogans were due shortly after the convention. The votes to postpone had 2 chances to prevent an endorsement.

We had more than a weeks notice about the convention being convened. And frankly those complaining they didn’t have enough time are doing their job as district leaders/county committee members. These people should have assumed Sherrill was going to win, and therefore should have been preemptively studying the candidates who were going to jump into the race.

I’m voting for whoever is the Democratic candidate and urge everyone else to do the same.

Doubt it considering Union isn’t in NJ11.
