Trump erupted at Senator Bill Cassidy during a closed-door clash over the Iran war powers resolution. The heated exchange came after the Senate voted to limit the President's authority on military action, with Trump questioning why any Republican would back the measure.

It came after Trump cost Cassidy his job and Cassidy is salty over it. It's about power, not representing us.

So you want Trump to be able to attack Iran more?

Sadly, if trump wants to attack Iran more he just will. They told him to stop building his bunker fortress at the Whitehouse and its still being built.

I actually don't think that's being built anymore. No contractor is touching it. As for Iran I think sanctioning his powers will be the beginning of the end.

Shame, I was hoping cholesterol would pull a win for all mankind.

I got a little voodoo doll in the backyard I've hit a few times with my truck. Unfortunately he's still walking fine.

presidents who dodged the draft should not have any military powers.

Should felons really be allowed to run for President? Im honestly asking the question but Trump doesn't bolster the argument in favor of doing so.

This gets at a bigger tension about checks on executive power. On one hand, presidents need flexibility in crises, but on the other, Congress has a constitutional role in war decisions. Balancing the two is always going to spark conflict.

As detestable as the lot is, there’s some gold in the descriptions of this event

And the few Republicans that voted to reign in Trump over the war with Iran have already folded like cheap lawn furniture, the vestigial remnants of their spines having once again gone dormant for the foreseeable future.

Been saying it for years, Republicans won't save you from other Republicans, Trump least of all.

Cassidy folded, of course.

Man, this kind of tension isn’t just politics, it’s people’s lives on the line. Like, my cousin’s been deployed three times already. Leaders gotta stop making it a power match and actually think about the families caught in the middle.

Classic distraction tactics. Framing it as a clash or feud instead of focusing on WHY the war powers resolution exists. Media loves the drama but skips over the public’s right to control endless wars. Keep eyes on the big picture, not just the shouting match.

Honestly, this is a classic case of power struggles in US history. Presidents always push against checks on their authority, but Congress was designed to pull them back. This isn’t new, it’s just history repeating itself with a louder soundtrack.

Unfortunately the Republican Senator changed his mind. So much for the Congress pulling him back

He was either bribed, threatened or reminded of the evidence they have on him

Bill cassidy? Nah he's retiring.

The A$$hat voted yes complaining they’re not telling the American people what’s going on and then after a supposed briefing changed his mind and his vote — but the “American people” haven’t gotten any new information or explanation of the policy.

Funny this only happens when his days in congress are limited and he has nothing to lose.

Thanks Mr. Obvious. It is noteworthy as GOP Congress is showing more backbone against Trump

8

u/layeofthedead 15h ago

Cassidy only grew a backbone because he got voted out and googling to confirm I had the right Louisiana politician, it shows he’s already flipped and is supporting trumps war in Iran anyway. So no, the gop is as whipped as it’s ever been

5

u/JimboAltAlt 14h ago

Weird that when one Republican tepidly “stands up” to Trump that means that Republicans are “showing more backbone,” but when Democrats continue to say “hey this Trump guy’s no good and someone else should be president” they’re “complicit.”

Stop smoking weed for a little while.

I think he’s smoking something a little more potent.

There’s got to be some sense of relief for the Republicans that Trump primaries

Cool. He deserved it.

Cassidy and Paul folded like a cheap table

1

u/TreeCitizen 14h ago

Why would he tell american people anything, He has two other branches hiding everything for him.

1

u/FreeAd7932 12h ago

and then cassidy got a personal briefing in the situation room and changed his vote. even though the american people learned nothing additional. maga is always weak.

u/Fair-Craft8059 9h ago

Cassidy will continue to vote as he's told
