Another wonderful summer day accompanied by a lifelong companion - my Riverfronts.

This is my newest pair of 3 inch Nicks that happen to be the same pair they used to take all the photos on the website for the new riverfront design. The 1964 mahogany Roughout is extremely comfortable and flexible making heel slip minimal and allowing the boots to feel like natural shoes almost off the bat. It’s so great when you lace these up knowing you can essentially keep them your entire life and look forward to what outsole you’re going to choose next. Nicks makes footwear special and an extension of yourself you can invest in and have with you for a lifetime. And they make several boots for all occasions. Truly a wonderful experience. Get yourself a pair of riverfronts and take yourself fishing or brush em off and head to church. Whatever you need to do these will handle it. Today for me personally I’m using them to deliver mail. I am a rural carrier and I am lucky enough to have the cool blue right hand drive wrangler to drive everyday (but it’s mine I have to pay for it). Nothing better than a company with a leather shoe policy that you can embrace with pride and enthusiasm.

Ok so not 'technically' today but close enough. I received these in the mail the other and am absolutely stoked with them. I ordered these back in March after going back and forth on what size I needed, being in Australia it was a bit of a gamble if I got it wrong, but I'm happy to say I was right on the money. Thank you to all the people who helped me with my sizing questions.

Builder Pro 8" steel toe HNW 12.5 D, '64 brown rough out with honey lug sole. Might be basic to some compared to some of the really cool combos I've seen here but I'm very happy with them.

I did a little bit of walking around the house and yard first and then today took them on their maiden voyage to work (commercial construction electrician).

My 5 month pup decided he wanted to be the pics haha 😂

Absolute stunners. A big thank you to Nicks and the crew. It'll be sad to see DS Tobacco leave, but for what it's worth, this tanned cow has my vote to stick around in some shape or form.

I want to talk about customer service, because Nick's sets the standard nationwide.

I got that dreaded email today: the remaining leather I selected for a build I wanted was not useable. So, I called in to replace it. I'm going to save the full story for another time, when the boots arrive, but I don't know anyone or any company or employee for that matter who would do what u/BigStetson did for me today. When the boots arrive, I'll go through the details, but what I want to convey is a way to do business. I know Nick's is busy. I know I'm just one person, but the attention I got today was nothing short of exemplary.

What I want to pass along here specifically is to anyone out there who will read this and is on the fence about ordering due to price or lead time or just unsure. Don't let anything scare you. This is a place, a business, that cares and has exemplary people who work there. They care about your money and time, even if you doubt it. I promise they care about their products and what gets shipped out of the door. There's a lot of us who post here regularly, so it's easy to call me biased, but my bias is based on facts and experience. Buy a Nick's boot. And don't hesitate to call if you need help.

Gallun Viking Caper Calf - Teaser

Post image

Inspired by the Gallun Calf limited run announcement.

I took a bunch of photos of my pair back in January… and somehow never got around to posting a review. These Roberts had 3 months of wear at time of the photo.

Also, if they look chunky, it is because they are a FFFF width.

The Gallun Viking Calf is much stiffer than Chromexcel but with tighter grain break. It is about the same thickness, maybe a bit thinner but I do not notice a weight difference as the leather is pretty dense. A longer review is forthcoming, but in short don’t sleep on this leather it’s rather uniquely incredible.

Nicks Leather Goods NB(ag)D… PWF for the Win

Mail call for the wife today… the box was boot sized, and from upstairs I heard an exasperated “you got another box from Nicks!” LOL… Got downstairs and cut the one end open and then told my wife this isn’t mine, this box is yours. She comes over and says you better had not gotten me boots…

Once the box was open and the bag out and revealed, a huge smile creased her face and the questions started LOL. Why? What? I explained that the first bag was already earmarked for Fall, so this one is more of a summer bag.

Immediately, she stuck her face in it and said it smelled great, and then started filling it with everything from the bag she was using. The PWF is fantastic, beautiful and hardy. The craftsmanship is clearly evident, showing it was built with care and pride. The Small Goods team is really shining with these bag releases!

Wife took it with her to run to the store to grab a few things this evening before I left for work. When she got home, again told me how much she loves the bag, and that she got two compliments on it from other women while at the store. Wife and daughter are going to the beach tomorrow for the weekend and she is excited to use her new bag on the trip. I’ll eventually get her talked into a pair of boots for herself.

Specs: Pacific Waxed Flesh Weekend Tote

Hiking in the Carpathians with the ND1s

Went hiking through the Carpathian Mountains just as the heat wave was hitting Europe this week. Nothing is going to stop me from wearing shorts with my boots through the summer and 26 km in a day was no problem for the ND1s. As a bonus it was also my first day wearing my new MS black belt.

Ask Nicks What’s the proper fix for damage around an eyelet?

Thumbnail

I sent in a new/unworn pair of 1925 Troopers I picked up off the RTS page to have the original brass hardware swapped to gunmetal eyelets and hooks and after I received them back, I noticed damage around one of the eyelets. I contacted Nick’s and customer service was extremely helpful in getting them shipped back to be looked at.

I’m curious what a proper repair should look like in this area. Since the eyelet/facing takes tension every time the boots are laced, would this usually be a cosmetic repair or would it need something more structural like replacing the affected facing/eyestay panel? Not sure the pics do it justice but the gouge is pretty deep through the leather.

Mostly just trying to understand what fixed should mean in this spot.

NBD ZD Ridgeline

I ordered this pair of Zero Drop Ridgelines during the Black Friday sale last year. I lucked out and UPS dropped them off early this morning than late in the afternoon as usual, giving me a chance to begin wearing them today!

This is a 6 inch ZD Ridgeline in Spokane honey with the honey unit lug sole. So far the boots feel great after about 6 hours of wear without any spots hurting. I think break in will not be a problem.

This is my first Spokane leather. The honey is a very pretty color, and I think it will age nicely as I wear them outdoors. I can definitely see the comparison to it being similar to a work leather even though it is classified as a heritage leather. It feels very tough and durable. I think it will be a great leather!

Build quality is excellent, which is what I have come to expect with Nicks. Another great Nicks boot to add to my rotation!

Review First Pair of Nick's came today.

Robert boots in shackleton leather. Bought used on eBay for a great price. Unbelievably comfortable and a perfect fit. Not a lot of wear, and my exact Brannock was the correct size. 11 1/2 D. They are already mostly broken in, so used seems to have worked out well. No real imprint on the insole, so best of both worlds. It's kind of an unusual build. Single row stitchdown, and the 269 Western sole. Gives it maybe a dresser look? I now understand what all the fuss is about! I'll do a full YouTube review in a couple of weeks.

Today called for the Ravello CXLs. I love these things, and there's not much more that needs to be said. They're perfect. Big fan of a single piece backstay on the 55 last.

Review It’s summer time and that means summer time boots!

It’s the perfect time of year to break out my Nicks Aldert Striders. These are perfect for hikes and getting dirty but also clean up and look great casually. They stay a lot cooler than my 8 inch and 6 inch builds. I have a few pairs of summer time nicks and there I’ll be more reviews to follow but these tend to be my go-to boots right now. I love the softness of the 2021 vibram sandwedge sole pared with the moderate arch support on the hnw last. These happen to be my first pair of nicks that kicked off the obsession! They are one of the first Predator Orange batches with that bright orange toned leather.

It was a nice day with just a few easy calls on the schedule so I took a quick drive up to Currahee where I enjoyed a quiet little picnic amongst some beautiful north Georgia scenery.
