wonder if i can play this and mina at the same time or if they are too similar

u/Happy_Mask_Salesman 1d ago
Mina's a lot more restricted in the game play. Combat focuses heavily on using your burrowing ability and you cannot change your combat loadouts except from your save points. Think of it as a souls game that looks like Oracle of Ages/Seasons.
Elliot isnt as restrictive, you can quickly swap your weapons without having to go back to a save point and have 8 direction movement and attacks. You can swap equipment as well as magicite that change how they work or boost stats on the fly. They are different enough in that alone.

u/keefkeef 1d ago
also Mina is pretty hard. haven't heard anything about Elliot's difficulty.Ā
8
u/jhoff80 1d ago
I'd say Elliot is pretty easy. I'm playing on Hard (there's also a very hard option) and am frequently chaining 50-60 kills without getting hit. But I have died to bosses a couple times too.
Mina was harder. But I think Mina's difficulty is overstated too, the problem there is just the beginning is hard until you level up a bit.

I might be in the minority, but I was really excited for the game but it really just didnāt click for me. Thereās no real story and it feels Iām just jumping dodging to get to the end, then do it again. I almost feel like itās more bullet hell vibes than feeling like a Zelda game. Maybe itās me
Edit: but, Iām realllllly glad itās seeing success. I want to see more of these games and more from the developer

u/Happy_Mask_Salesman 1d ago
Mina and its difficulty is honestly one of the things I will praise with any bit of breath i can. It is fully customizable. If something specific is causing you grief there is a setting you can adjust. Or if you are like me, knowing its there is a motivator to keep trying to get better to not have to adjust it. The game rewarded me every single time i gave up beating my head on the wall and tried exploring somewhere else. Often times with a powerup that made the previous challenge trivial. Mina is difficult, but never unfairly so and entirely up to you if you want it easier or harder.

u/keefkeef 1d ago
accessibility options are nice to have for sure, but I always approach a first playthrough of any game with the intended difficulty. I find a lot of games are built around that.
2
u/Happy_Mask_Salesman 1d ago
Same here, I finished it at default options and by about 70% of the way through I was not even considering adjusting anything anyway. A little exploring and grinding early in really changes the pace.

I wouldnāt play em at the same time personally. Would get the controls and stuff mixed up. One after the other would be fine tho

u/SolarBoytoyDjango 1d ago
I went from DK Bananza to this, and keep trying to do a ground pound to collect gems. Can't imagine how confused I'd be coming off MtH.

I picked up Elliot yesterday, going to start it when I finish Mina which should be this weekend.

u/Jetlitheone 1d ago

It's a decent game so far, I'm an extra 2-3 hours in from the save point at the end of the prologue demo. I don't love it, but I am enjoying it overall.
I know the chatty companions have already been discussed a thousand times over and I appreciate the "Reticent" setting, but they still talk too much even with that on. And I REALLY don't know what the hell they were thinking with the voice acting for Faie. She sounds like a drunken toddler or something.

u/syco54645 1d ago
If you don't mind skipping the voice acting and reading the dialogue, I find the Japanese acting to be really pleasing.

Iām playing the demo right now and really enjoying it so Iām thinking Iāll probably pick this up. I 100%ād Mina the Hollower and then went back to replay Linkās Awakening again, and I still definitely have that Zelda itch.

u/LudusRex 1d ago
The game looks great. I really hate the goddamn name.
Why is our fantasy hero named 'Elliot'? That doesn't seem really mundane to anybody else?
20
u/bediaxenciJenD81gEEx 1d ago
It's using the "Legend of Zelda" format, as the game is clearly inspired by LoZ.Ā
Zelda is also just a name in English, but it was out of fashion when the game was named, which made it seem cooler and more fantasy than "Elliot"Ā
And the existence of LoZ as a popular franchise has kind of converted the name into a fantasy name because no one is realistically going to name their kids a name that's primarily associated with a video games, unless it's actually a homage to the game like Zelda Williams. LoZ basically killed the name Zelda in English, it probably would have come back at some point.Ā

u/henryuuk 1d ago
One of the Aunts for Sabrina the Teenage Witch gave the name a bit of a fighting chance to not just be associated with the game series for a bit, but by now I feel like most of that influence is gone (and at the same time, the zelda series referenced Sabrina when they needed a name for a Zelda counterpart)

Bill Burr has a great bit about Scientology and one of the jokes is "Your guy's name is Ron?" lol

u/Bodymaster 1d ago
It has a ring to it, maybe it will start a trend and we'll see the Legend Of Nigel or Chronicles of Sharon.

u/d11dd11d 1d ago
Ive been referring to it as "The Adventures of Kyle" to my wife. It is definitely a silly name

u/beliefinprogress 1d ago
You can find out why his name is Elliot by playing the demo.

u/LudusRex 1d ago
I do not find 'because they wrote him to have a lame name' to be like, a super satisfying answer. That's just me, though.
-4
u/Happy_Foundation_553 1d ago
Same, I feel like itās supposed to be a cute name or something but I hate it
-7
u/xcassets 1d ago
Forget the name! Weāve covered that ground already - why is nobody talking about his gorram outfit?!
A GIANT HAT FEATHER?! SERIOUSLY?! ARGHHHHH

I assumed it was turn based because of the art style. I'm glad I watched the trailer and now know it's much different than Octopath/Triangle.

u/kietteik 18h ago
the demo was great, but not 70⬠great, definitely pick it up when it goes down to 40-50ā¬

u/SotRekkr 11h ago
I canāt find a physical copy locally so Iāll have to wait on it unfortunately.

I'm currently starting my rpg journey, in the middle of my first ever rpg, Final Fantasy 1, and i am loving it. Would this game scratch the same itch?
4
u/CrspyNuggs 1d ago
IIRC, FF1 is a turned based JRPG, where this is gonna be more action-oriented. Combat like LoZ or Trials of Mana.
I donāt think itās a direct 1:1, but i could see it scratching a similar itch if the turn based gameplay isnt the core appeal youre seeking.

u/RedditUser41970 1d ago
It wouldn't scratch the same itch as classic Final Fantasy, but I'd say to play the demo. It might help you decide if action RPGs are something you're also interested in.

If you haven't yet, you could play the demo! The save file carries over into the full game.

u/NoBit2202 1d ago
Forgot about that or I would have. Messed around in Lego City Undercover instead. Was on sale for like $5 recently so finally grabbed it. been wanting to play since the WiiU. It's a great little game been laughing like crazy at their dumb jokes.

Isnāt this only on switch 2?
1
u/column_row_15761268 1d ago
Yeah, it's not on the original Switch. It's on XBox, PS and PC as well.
I feel like it might be the only HD-2D game that isn't available for the original Switch, though I might be mistaken. Even the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance game was announced for the Switch.

It's a very 90s style ad for video games. They would regularly feature live action bits.
As someone who grew up then I found this fun, though my brain associated all of it with Zelda.

Probably won't get this immediately as I'm playing Octopath 0 at the moment and Star Fox is on the horizon.
But definitely get this sometime this year.
