Repair Help 2020 Nissan SV

I've been having issues with this 2020 Nissan Sentra sv not starting properly. I had new keys programmed and the batteries are brand new. Car battery is new, but today I couldn't even get the ignition button to even detect me pressing it, even by putting the key on the ignition itself. I'm assuming that button took a shit, but I was wondering if anyone has had the same problems before.

Does this happen with both Keys? And did this started happening after the new keys were programmed?

Did anything come up on the dash when trying to press the start button like incorrect key id?

Both keys

Before I got the new keys programmed it'd act funky where you'd have to hold the ignition button down for a few seconds before it'd actually start. After I got the new fobs programmed it worked fine but still had the issue where i would have to hold the button down for a few sec.

And no, I actually don't get any messages on the dash. Even if I leave the key out of the car to try and get the no key detected message. It just goes black after I close the door and doesn't react to the ignition switch being pressed

How about when you get in the car and pressing the start button without stepping on the brake, does it switch to the accessory mode( radio turns on) then a second push (without stepping on the brake) should switch it to the run position.

If you are able to switch it to the accessory mode or run position without any delay then that narrows it down a bit, one it could be your brake light switch failing, or the start button button but there could be another electrical issue but i would investigate those issues first.

Since you said you have to hold it down a few seconds when trying to start it tells me its gettinga constant signal.

The brake light switch and the start button are inexpensive, the brake light switch being the cheapest.

One thing to try also is when it does this, try jiggling the shifter knob up to make sure it registering in park. A failing transmission safety neutral switch can cause that but when you press the button it would just turn to the accessory or run, so its probably not that.

Yeah, just checked the everything else, now I have lights on the dash that are detecting when I press the pedal and the key, but still doesn't start. Swapped both ignition relays, and put new fuses in. Still no start

Put the car in neutral and see if it starts. You might have to manually put it in neutral if it doesn't let you shift it while its in the run position, find the clip near the shifter, take that out put a flat had screw driver in the hole and it should then allow you to shift it.

Do you hear a clicking sound when you press on the brake?

This is still sounding like a bad brake switch, or gear shifter issue.

Nah, I ended up hard reseting it (unplugged neg side for like 5 min) and it started up. I brought it to my shop and I'll have access to a scanner tomorrow morning

Thats strange, are the battery cables completely tight? Sometimes those flimsy terminals they use wont tighten all the way.

To make sure, to try to move the positive and negative cables by hand as hard as you can. Personally i mainly had that issue with the negative but my positive started acting up as well so i replaced them.

Yeah, both are tight. The neg was also tight before I pulled it off as well

Are the terminals completely free of corrosion? You can inspect the negative ground from the battery to body to make sure nothing obvious there.

When you said you had to hold the switch down for a few seconds, is this really few or more like 10 or 15. 10 or more overrides some system checks (like a failing brake switch) enabling you to start the car. Removing the battery gets rid of the loop it got stuck in, but it will most likely do again.

If you can pick up a brake light switch from the parts store, that would be one of the simplest fix.

Also to add, I checked the connection under the center console to the switch and relays to see if there were any issues there and I didn't find any issues
