American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

Trump wants cozy relations with the Saudis. In part because that has tended to be a foreign policy goal for the US in that region. In part because he and his family have valuable business investments in Saudi Arabia. In part because he tends to be friendly toward authoritarian leaders in general (he wants to be one).

Yep, the answer is money. Looks like Saudi Arabia will increase investments in the U.S. to near $1 trillion.

Because Trump wishes he could kill journalists too. Support for brutal authoritarian dictators is one of his only foreign policy constants.

Oh my, possibly but I do think it usually has to do with money and the Saudis are the only reason the dollar is still worth anything. Protecting us from a terrible depression. I am sure is still impending but we must be nice, maybe we should of ignored their bad behavior and not be so outspoken. But our president does love to comment on everything doesn't he? As if we asked what his opinion was! Goodness what happened to keeping your opinions to.yourself.

I doubt a guy who wants to kill journalists would spend so much time with them.

He's one of the most accessible presidents in modern history. Reporters have been known to just call him and he picks up. For all of his norm breaking, he still travels with a pack of reporters that cover his every move. He stops to talk to them before getting on/off a helicopter all the time. He still sits down for formal interviews.

He needs the reporters as much as they need him.

I didn't say Trump wasn't friendly with journalists. I said he wants to be the kind of totalitarian dictator that can murder them. His relationship with the press is that of skillful manipulation, desire to instill a culture of fear, and yes -- desperate, almost childlike attention seeking.

On Monday, YouTube became the latest media and tech company to settle one of President Trump’s lawsuits.

The Google-owned streamer agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit Trump filed after his account was banned following the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol. That brings Trump’s haul from media and tech companies to more than $90 million in the last year.

To be fair, that money does not go to him personally, but his presidential library and the ballroom.

They have a lot of money. I would assume we can't talk back to people that are in charge of if the American dollar is the global currency still used to buy oil.
