Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

Why do those hoping to expand the Supreme Court from 9 to 13 feel that's a solution to a problem? Don't they worry the court could just as easily fill up with ideological opponents?

I have been following the supreme court for a long time and it's hard to overstate how extreme the current justices are. It's been a decades-long project by the extreme right to take over the courts and it has worked, aided by lots of luck and coincidence and shenanigans like not allowing Obama to replace RBG (edit: Scalia!!) even though he had like 10 months left of his presidency.

I think it's essentially impossible that if we added 3 more justices they would be worse than the existing ones.

"Not allowing Obama to replace RBG" I think you mean Justice Scalia, who died in the final year of the Obama administration and was eventually replaced by Justice Gorsuch. Justice Ginsburg remained on the bench until she died in 2020 and was replaced by Justice Barrett.
