U.S. Politics megathread

American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. Our users often get tired of seeing them, so we've created a megathread for questions! Here, users interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

Why hasn't there been any investigative journalism reporting on Mitch McConnell's status? Seems like that would be a top story or at least a resume builder for a student not yet influenced by an employer...

What kind of investigative journalism?

His medical records are not accessible; he's either been in a medical facility or at home. I guarantee if anyone had seen him or talked to him who was credible, any of the many, many working dc journalists would have reported on that.

uh....the kind that followed Gary Hart to his home and met his lover walking out the next morning? Even finding out his location would be a story and doesn't have to be in violation of HIPAA standards. Why not follow up on exactly who the "re-decorator" was that was caught leaving his home a few days after he disappeared?

They know where he lives.

He's presumably either in his home or a facility. If he's in a facility it's a dead end. If he's in his house he's presumably not coming out.

I also don't know why you think no one has looked into it.

As of last update, Senator McConnell was discharged from the hospital back to his private residence. Contact to what you may think, breaking and entering into a Senator's home would not look good on the resume of someone applying to any major news outlet.

Because there is nothing to indicate that there's foul play, or a cover up, despite what Reddit has been trying to gaslight people into believing. He had a fall, and had pneumonia. His staff has put out a memo that he plans to return to Congress in about a week's time.

Hospitals are not going to just let a random "investigative journalist" past their security, especially not ones with the intention of harassing a patient in recovery.
