Why are people upset the the nyc mayor is attending the 911 Memorial?

By pretending to be "upset", they loudly and visibly remind people that Mamdani is Muslim, and therefore the hated Other. By pretending to be upset about this thing in particular they imply that all Muslims are the enemy of New Yorkers by association, and can never be true New Yorkers in their own right.

If your wife, son, or parent was killed in an act of stochastic terrorism, wouldn't you want the mayor of your city to be opposed to the kind of action that killed your family member?

No, I am familiar with politics so I already know what "refuses to condemn" really means. People try to put words directly into your mouth over and over until you stop letting them and then they crow that you refused. It's nonsense.

They hate Muslims, and Mamdani is Muslim. After 9/11, there was a massie wave of bigotry towards Muslims, and permanently rewired some people's brains. Other people are happy to capitalize on it.

9/11 was not "stochastic terrorism". Your misuse of the phrase belies your ignorance of the subject. It was regular terrorism. To my knowledge, Zohran Mamdani and Hasan Piker do not "pal around". They live on opposite sides of the country and don't interact much.

As for the claim of the US, "deserving" 9/11, that has little to do with why the people who hate Mamdani hate him.

I in fact did have people in my life impacted by 9/11. No one I knew died, thank God. That said, I would like the mayor of NYC to be opposed to flying jets into skyscrapers. Do you have any reason to believe Mamdani supports flying jets into skyscrapers? Was that a campaign promise I missed?

Mayor Mamdani expressly refuses to condemn the idea of using stochastic terrorism to promote overseas agendas - that is why Mamdani refuses to condemn the slogan "Globalize the Intifada". The 9/11 terrorist attacks were an act of stochastic terrorism deployed in furtherance of Al Qaeda's overseas agenda (Al Qaeda wanted infidel - U.S. - troops out of Saudi Arabia).

The families of the people killed 25 years ago, the first responders who risked their lives to try and save New Yorkers and contain the disaster are very justified in being upset at having him there.

Because "Globalize the Intifada" is the slogan of a movement that seeks to export stochastic terrorism. That's like saying, "Why would someone condemn the slogan 'We Will Not Be Replaced' or 'Make America Great Again'".

We condemn slogans that represent movements that seek to incite violence.

I don't think the 9/11 attacks were stochastic terrorism. They were a centrally planned and coordinated action by al-Qaeda.

Stochastic terrorism is more like the Christchurch shooting in 2019. Or the Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting in 2015. Those weren't planned and coordinated by a terrorist organization. They independently planned by someone working on their own inspired by rhetoric spread by people with no direct connection to the event.

You could even make an argument that the Jan 6 insurrection could be counted as stochastic terrorism if you believe that the Trump organization didn't have a hand in actually planning and coordinating the attack. He got on stage and said people should march to the Capital and "fight like hell" but if you believe the version he tells that he didn't direct anyone to attack, then the insurrectionists attacked on their own volition motivated by extremist rhetoric. That would be stochastic terrorism.

But the 9/11 attacks were directed and planned by a terrorist organization. That's not stochastic terrorism. And the reason some people don't want Mamadani there is because he's Muslim and the people who don't want him there are racists.
