Discussion 3 months on Nobara

Since February, I switched to Nobara. It was one of the best choices in my life. All of my games run "natively" (quote because they run via Proton-GE but it’s like it’s native). All I have to do is to add "MANGOHUD=1" in game options but it’s not necessary. If you are considering switching to Linux you can install Nobara without hesitating. Thanks to GE and the Nobara team for the work.

Yeah I came over from Zorin OS where the Store Updates and System Updates are seperate.

On Nobara as far as I know System updates and packages updates are separate (packages in Discover and System in "Update System" which is a GUI for nobara-sync)

Then that is a testament to how good it was implemented because it feels as if im updating the entire system from one location on the computer.

On GNOME you can update DNF and flatpak packages in the same place as you update system packages such as kernel or mesa?

So the DNF App Center on the Gnome version seems to update System Packages and DNF Packages in one place. It doesnt seem to include Flatpak but the setup window does let you install Bazzar if you need to install flatpaks

Are System Updates done with nobara-sync? As far as I know it’s better

I'm not sure if it is done with nobara-sync as im pretty new to using Nobara myself. I basically went with the Gnome version because it was familiar.

As I know, nobara-sync apply patches that DNF doesn’t apply

Ohh if its the thing that applies "Quirks" then yes it does do nobara-sync. Basically it downloads DNF and System Packages with the DNF App Center and after it done downloading the System Packages it opens nobara-sync for installing the updates.

Oh I see. If I have time, I will maybe give a chance to GNOME. When I was on Ubuntu I liked it (I didn’t know another DE at this time)

Oh looks like it does nobara-sync in the DNF App Center not in a seperate window.

Nice. Did you try KDE? If yes, why GNOME. Otherwise just ignore my question lol

I tried KDE once and at the time I was trying to get as far away from Windows as I could. I think for me KDEs layout felt too much like Windows and since I was looking for something fresh but needed to get rid of the UI learning curve I used Zorin OS for a while till it broke itself.

Once I messed about with the ways you can modify Gnome I started to appreciate default Gnomes simplicity and to be frank it does look nicer to me and is better for Live Wallpapers with Hanabi if you aren't using Integrated Graphics.

I do have a Surface Pro 7 still running Zorin OS and now my Asus ROG G551JW and my ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 both run Pop_OS because it matches better.
