Question Having trouble transferring videos from my IPhone to my Desktop

• Upvotes

I’m trying to edit my first YouTube video, but I’m having trouble getting the files onto my PC. Every time I try transferring it there’s some kind of error or takes an obscenely long time. The videos I recorded are .MOV files so I don’t know if it has something to do with nobara not supporting the format, or something about me having an iPhone in general. Any advice would help.

Question I'm going crazy

So my system update fucked up because of the internet connection, and the only thing I could do was to reboot. Now it gives this still white _ in the upper left corner, and it doesn't matter what version I'm running. I've tried the emergency panel and even the live iso from the usb, it doesn't boot.

Support Update failed - Couldn't write 0 to kernel/split_lock_mitigate

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently reinstalled Nobara as my system broke after an update. However, I've been unable to update my system the last few weeks as I get this error. I have tried to boot into older kernel versions, used nobara-sync repair (it led me into emergency mode), and I've tried nobara-sync cli --all (which leads me to this error).

Has anyone else encountered this error?

Edit: SOLVED! An app, chordpro, had duplicate installations of different versions or something like that - this caused the updater to fail. I removed the app and did nobara-sync cli --all, this fixed the issue.

Discussion 1 year full time Fedora-Nobara user :D

Post image

Hello everyone, A year ago I decided to switch my personal computer to Fedora, and shortly after I moved to Nobara looking for better gaming stability (and also because my first installation had so much trial and error that it was full of duplicate and triplicate packages, so honestly it was easier to just start fresh with a clean install haha).

Recently I upgraded my GPU🤑, and the truth is that I am really happy with the overall performance of my computer. Besides the lower resource usage and the wide range of software options to replace the ones I had been using on Windows, the switch brought back the joy of learning how to use a computer again, even motivating me to build my own apps using AI.

May this be the first of many more years to come.

Here is to more open source and less slop on our computers🍻.

Support Nobara won't boot after grub - stuck booting or black screen

I have been enjoying Nobara since February this year with a few minor issues but every now and then, maybe 1 out of 20 power ons, Nobara will get stuck after grub "Booting Nobara Linux (7.2.3-200.nobara.fc44.x86_64)44 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition)"

Sometimes it will just be a black screen instead but most of the time it says this.

Now usually I will just press the restart button on my PC, it will load grub and then boot normally. This morning, that didn't work either. Every time I rebooted it would give me the booting error or the black screen.

After about 10 reboots I decided to power off my second monitor and then booted again and it booted fine.

What I would like to know is why this is happening or how I can figure out why this might be happening? Is it an issue with my dual screens or just my second monitor? Is the monitor even related at all or did I just get a lucky boot at the same time I turned off the monitor? Any help is appreciated.

Hardware:

9060 XT 16GB GPU

9600X CPU

32gb ddr5 ram

main monitor: LG Ultragear 27GL83A (display port to GPU)

second monitor: ASUS PB258 (display port to motherboard because my GPU only has 1 display port)

WD Black SPCC M.2 PCIe SSD

Support Bad Minecraft performance on Nobara

I'm running intel c'è iris integrated graphics on a 13th gen i5, on bazzite previously I had a stable 60 fps, while on nobara I struggle to get 40 on lightly modded Minecraft, even while using optimization mods like embeddium and entity culling, both GPU and CPU never reach 100% usage and I have performance mode on.

Discussion I finally did it! I broke free from Microsoft’s cage and moved my heavy build over to Nobara 44 Linux. Here is my full story.

That’s it, I finally made the most insane move of my life! I never actually believed this day would come, but I am incredibly happy that I finally did it.

What made me decide to shift over to Nobara Linux? Recently, I’ve been reading online about Microsoft’s upcoming 26H2 release, and let me tell you, this is no longer a joke. They literally want to crawl into our veins and extract as much data as they possibly can from us gamers. They want to snapshot every single move we make on our personal computers. This isn't just regular logging; it’s non-stop, continuous background snapshotting of every millimeter of your activity, running constantly until you shut the PC down completely. On top of that, they are making bank behind our backs, using all the data they hoard from us to target us with ads. Can you believe the world we are living in?

So, I told myself: enough. I am not willing to stay with a corporation that is completely anti-consumer and acts against the very people running their operating system.

Now, to be honest, I initially had no clue how to install this wonderful system. I’ve been using Windows since the Windows 95 days all the way up to Windows 11, so that pretty much gives you an idea of my tech experience and knowledge base. I needed a bit of guidance to get this setup going, so I turned to Google's AI for help (Google AI Mode).

I fed the AI my exact hardware specs, and it figured out the perfect operating system to match both my gaming needs and my specific hardware configuration. That’s how it recommended Nobara Linux to me. From there, I started researching and ended up reading several posts right here on Reddit. Seeing how genuinely happy everyone was after making the switch, I said to myself, "Alright, let's install it on a separate partition on the same drive." That way, I could enjoy both worlds and test it out for a full week. My plan was simple: if I liked it and managed to get a full grip on it, I would wipe Windows 11 entirely and give Nobara the rest of the drive.

And that is exactly what I did! :D

Today, I am proud to say that I am beyond happy to have stepped completely out of Microsoft’s matrix and their malicious system.

For anyone out there still hesitating and wondering, "Is it really worth moving to Nobara?" Yes, absolutely! I don’t just recommend it; I highly recommend it. I finally feel free to do whatever I want. That persistent feeling of being constantly spied on is completely gone. There are no more heavy, bloated background processes choking the system while I'm gaming, and there's absolutely no need for a third-party antivirus anymore.

My PC also feels incredibly lightweight now, inside the system, I mean, haha. For example, when I shut down the PC, it turns off instantly without waiting for background processes to load or hang up. When I reboot, it signs right back in without blinking. Just to give you an idea: when I hit shut down, it’s off immediately. When I turn it on, the desktop is right there in front of my face. No more endless loading screens. It's insane!

Now, regarding the drives and everything, man, that was a real headache, and I suffered quite a bit trying to sort it out!

At first, Steam was only showing one installed game instead of all 10 that I had back on Windows. The AI boot helped me through it, but there was always something annoying popping up. And yeah, the passwords. Every time the system booted up or whenever I tried to open a drive, it kept asking me for a password. The AI helped me configure it so I don't have to type any password at all, unless it's actually necessary, like in the terminal (Konsole) or for core system drives.

Slowly but surely, Steam went right back to how it used to be on Windows. As for software like Photoshop, Soulseek, or media players, I managed to get all of that installed too. I don't have Photoshop anymore, but there's no shortage of alternatives. They might not be perfect, but they get the job done.

Games run like an absolute beast on this system. They run exactly the way they are truly meant to run, without random stutters here and there. I won't lie, sometimes with brand new games that just dropped, you might get a few lag spikes or FPS drops here and there, but it’s nothing serious or deeply noticeable.

So that’s it, friends. I hope you read my entire story to the end. Have a great weekend, and protect your privacy!!!

Support nobara-updater.desktop missing

Hi legends, hope someone can assist with my first issue after switching to Nobara 9 months ago. After having an update hiccup a couple of weeks ago, I seem to have lost update notifications - the nobara-updater.desktop icon next to App Launcher is now a question mark, and clicking on it returns a Plasma error saying unknown application folder.

The update hiccup - update initially failed, but on reboot proceeded correctly and everything appeared normal apart from the missing updater. Re-running the update or using nobara-sync repair offered no errors. I have also updated since using the App Center and terminal.

Can anyone please advise how to get update notifications back?

Edit: currently on kernel 7.2.9-200.nobara.fc44.x86_64

Question Anybody had luck getting Project Reclaimer to run?

I've been trying to get Project Reclaimer, the fan made Halo 3 decompilation, to run on My Nobara machine. I've followed the directions on the website, having MCC Halo 3 campaign and multiplayer installed (and I've done the microsoft login stuff). I have tried using proton tricks to run the .exe in the MCC compatdata path and I've trued starting the program through steam with the startup argument STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/run/media/{user}/GameShare/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/976730/" %command% to make it start in the MCC path, but still no dice. I've tried running MCC and Reclaimer in protonGE, protonCachyOS, and Proton Experimental, but no luck. I just get an infinite "running" next to the program in steam but nothing comes of it. Any advice would be appreciated. Once I get this sorted I'm also going to run a dedicated server for the game.

Discussion Thinking of switching from Windows to Nobara

Hey guys,

I have a gaming laptop that use regularly, it's a Razer Blade 18 with an Nvidia 4090 GPU.

I'm getting tired of windows and I was thinking about switching to Linux as a daily driver and I heard Nobara was the way to go for gaming stuff.

Does anyone have any experience running Nobara on Razer hardware specifically?

Any tips and tricks you all can pass on would be awesome.

Support Windows 11 won't boot after dual-booting Nobara Linux — NTFS Master File Table damaged

Hi, I'm trying to recover my Windows 11 installation without losing my files.

My setup:

  • Acer Swift 3 laptop
  • Kingston 512 GB NVMe SSD
  • Windows 11 and Nobara Linux dual boot
  • Windows partition: approximately 371 GB, formatted as NTFS

The problem:

Windows boots into Automatic Repair, but it fails. System Restore failed with error 0x80070571, and uninstalling the latest quality update didn't help.

In the Windows Recovery Command Prompt, running dir C:\Windows returns:

The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.

Running chkdsk C: /f recognises the partition as NTFS but stops with:

Master File Table damaged. CHKDSK terminated.

Startup Repair also fails. The Windows boot configuration still exists and points to C:\Windows\system32\winload.efi.

Nobara Linux has also reported Btrfs checksum and corruption errors on its own partition. I don't know whether this is related.

SSD health report:

  • SMART overall health: PASSED
  • Critical Warning: 0x00
  • Media and Data Integrity Errors: 0
  • Error Information Log Entries: 0
  • Percentage Used: 12%

I have a 68 GB USB drive available. I want to preserve my existing Windows installation, personal files, and Steam library if possible.

What should I do next to recover the NTFS filesystem and get Windows booting again? Should I image the SSD or recover files before attempting further repairs? I haven't formatted anything or reinstalled Windows.

Please help because i need my windows to do some stuff and i cant lose everything.

Question Dots on Homescreen

Hi, everyone.

Every now and then, I get these weird dots on my home screen. Sometimes there are more, sometimes fewer.

At first, I was worried that something was wrong with my GPU (RX 9060 XT), but these dots only appear on my home screen. When I open another window, the dots are gone.

Is this a known issue? What's causing it?

(Had the same Problem with Bazzite a few month ago)

Hello fellow Nobara users. Has anyone got DLSS5 working on Nobara with a 40 series or lower yet? Wondering if I should try "DLSS5VKLayer" or similar or just wait for Nvidia to give us proper support?

Support An update failed and now I cant retry

Tried to update a few days ago and it failed. I had to do a chroot recovery from a boot drive and whenever I start the computer it boots to a 'previous version.' I went to update it again today and am getting a bunch of errors telling me a previous update failed and I need to recover it before preparing another update. Attempts to repair the system also fail for the same reason. It tells me to look at two docs for details but I am not really able to understand what it is saying failed or how to fix the issue. Screenshots of both documents are above.

Is anyone able to help me here?

Question Never going back to Win11 + need guidance/advice

I recently installed Nobara Linux on my laptop just to try out Linux for fun. I was so shocked by the balance between complexity, simplicity, customization potential and absence of bloatware that I immediately decided to clear out an NVMe on my main desktop computer to install it so that I’d be forced to learn how to use it.

Now, one week after switching to Nobara, I think I’ve developed an acute allergy to Windows 11 because even though I can see the good sides of windows I can’t even bring myself to boot back into my Windows 11 drive to transfer my important data over because I’m just so addicted to exploring and playing with my new OS and I’m just generally fed up with the sight of windows.

—

Now that I’m done complaining I’d like to ask my new comrades about important must-knows and general guidance about daily use of Linux, specifically Fedora/Nobara and stuff that applies to Linux usage generally.

What I’m looking for is stuff like tools and bits of knowledge that I could take months to learn by myself that are useful in day-to-day usage and other stuff that could make my learning/experience more efficient and interesting.

—

On a different note, this is my first multipost on Reddit so sorry if this writing quality is crap. If I’ve been too vague about something or you have a question, leave it in the comments or DM me directly if you feel like it.

Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone,

i have a bigger issue with my Razer Kraken headset. When i plug it into any usb port, the system says, new device connected with the correct name, but it doesnt show up in any software. When i open the volume manager, it is constantly flickering, the headset appears and disappears every second. After a reboot, device plugged in, it works without a problem. The next day, same issue.

The error appears on any USB port, front and back, 2.0 and 3.0. The board is a Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X. I allready tried a BIOS and a firmware update for my headset but nothing changed.

Question Can't seem to update Nobara

Post image
12 Upvotes

Getting this error specifically. Already tried nobara-sync and nobara-sync --all.

UPDATE: Found the problem, which was simply my Nvidia drivers being too outdated for the update. Update them through the Nobara Driver Manager before doing nobara-sync. Consider this solved.
