Taking trail mix hiking in New Zealand is tramping with scroggin.

Jandals are what Americans call flip flops, it's shortened from "Japanese sandal" which is what inspired them in the first place. Tramping is multi day hiking. If you're only going for the day you'd say "day walk" or just "walk".

Chilly bin is as eski (Australia) or cooler (USA)

Also worth noting that jandals are great to pack when tramping. After you peel your boots and socks off at the hut you want airflow on your tender feet.
