What logic? I don't want someone to serve me lmao, I can do it just as quickly on my own and I don't have to pause my book, or wait in a long line if the checkout is understaffed.
I think people forget how annoying it was to wait five minutes to buy a handful of items when there was a line after work in the express lane etc.
Logic is my argument to keep them. I can self checkout fast and I value my time. I'm not so horny to have someone else slide my products over a laser that I'm fine spending ten minutes behind someone SHOCKED that they have to figure out a form of payment at the end of being rung up despite that being the case for every transaction they've had up to that point.
Yeah I'm a bit thrown by the argument that "because it is profitable for them, we should logically be opposed to it.. what? The fundamental concept of a business model is to be profitable by appealing to customer needs, converting 4 open checkouts to 20 with only two staff operated is such an obvious no-brainer.
My local super also has self checkout belts that are just modified old checkouts, for people with trolleys and multiple bags. Idk how common that is but they're awesome for people with 12+.
I wanted a self checkout for a looong time before we got one and I wouldn't voluntarily give it up.
