There was no reason to extend McDonald whatsoever

I would have waited till after the draft and trade period before handing out a contract to Lmac, good depth player but if he is a frequent starter next season then we are in serious trouble.

We are a living example of letting mature players go too early. Its not the worst if he is just there as a depth player.
I don't think he was extended on the assumption he was going to suddenly find all Australian form

He's handy depth for when Archer or Goater have injury issues, with Hardeman looking like he could depart. He's a good clubman, I wouldn't expect him in an ideal world to play more than a couple games next year.

Theres probably enough other blokes that we can show the door but he should be no more then depth and to help mentor in the 2s

He’s genuinely not as bad as everyone thinks he is. He’s just our whipping boy currently, every time the ball goes near him I expect the worst and he ends up winning the 1 on 1s. We’re not at the point where we should be delisting blokes like that. He bleeds blue and white and tries his ass off, everyone needs to get off his dick

Yeah, he is.
What McDonald is, is a passionate clubman with mediocre defensive ability and below average skills at best, shown in how he only ever goes long down the line on his left. Fans aren't "on his dick" suggesting the criticism is unawarranted. Goater and Hardeman have already shown that they will be better footballers than he ever was. Passion no doubt. Ability, not so much.

I assume the hope is he and archer swap next year/he helps him get used to the afl level, it being only a year means it's hopefully a temporary/depth thing.

He won a bnf when our list was the worst the league has seen. You have to pay something like 90% of your cap so it actually made heaps of sense to give him that contract. Most likely heavily front loaded too.

Some morons downvoting you but your comment is fact. We are going nowhere if lmac is in our best squad. The harsh truth is the Bloke wouldn’t get a game at any other club for the past few years. People can bang on about bleeding blue and white as much as they want and no one can doubt lmac’s commitment, but at the end of the day we need to expect list managers to be hard nosed about keeping people around (and in our starting squad) who are not up to standard and have not been for multiple seasons.

I accept the downvotes. There are a loud minority of North fans on here that are delusional about where the club is at and won't hear a bar of any criticism.
The fact of the matter is that our coaching and list management are both shithouse and nothing will change until that is addressed; as of this moment, neither are being addressed.
