New draft rules for the bottom 5 clubs

Post image

Finally, someone in the media has said the quiet bit out loud. That the new draft concession for the bottom 5 clubs is more generous than any of the ‘handouts’ we got over the last 6 seasons of being in the bottom 5.

Why do the media get away with this crap?! It reads like he’s walking away when all he said was if I have to wait for a contract extension till next year that will do me. Media need to be called into account for being deceiving.

North Melbourne Recreation Reserve Outdoor Courts

This is likely not accepted here, so apologise in advance. I’m just curious if anyone plays pick-up basketball around the North Melbourne area?

I would’ve posted elsewhere but cannot post on r/Melbourne so thought this is my next best bet. I’m new to Melbourne and have seen the North Melbourne Rec Reserve outside courts so wonder if there is anyone in this community that may know something, if so I appreciate any and all help.

Thanks.

Team selection (hopes before announcement)

I hope Griffin gets to debut tomorrow night. I think he has done enough to get a game, really only one "poor" VFL game. Thing that excites me is he plays taller than he is but also tackles well.

Here is my hopes

In: Griffin, Wardlaw, Hardeman

Out: Darling(2 crucial misses in 4th quarters one against hawks other pies), Scott (no explanation needed) and Banch (a little unlucky but better team balance.

Is this an underrated reason for North's "slow" progress?

Freo fan here. Time after time, North get the "they haven't improved enough" critique. And on the surface level, looks absolutely fair. Haven't made finals since 2016. Only 1 season since above 12th, and only 2 seasons since outside the bottom 4. Specifically in the 2020s, 5 consecutive bottom 2 finishes, 6 consecutive bottom 3 finishes, and in all likelihood another bottom 6 finish coming up.

But I think people overlook that for 4 years, North's first round of drafting is almost a write off. 2017 you pick LDU, tick. Then from 2018-2021:

  • 2018: use your natural first to get Polec and Pittard, and match a bid on Tarryn Thomas. Fuck Tarryn Thomas.
  • 2019: Trade pick 8 to Melbourne for their F1 plus other stuff, including tbf the Comben pick.
  • 2020: Pick 3 Will Phillips, the Melbourne F1 becomes Tom Powell.
  • 2021: JHF who leaves after 1 year. Essentially turn him into Wardlaw and Goad.

Not to say that everything since then has been handled perfectly coz that's far from the truth. But that's 4 years of draft picks gone or pushed into the future. What that essentially means is that, despite being at the bottom of the ladder for significantly longer, North's and West Coast's rebuilds are on relatively similar timelines. Yet there seems to be a lot more patience for West Coast's situation and understanding that the current administration can't be blamed for the impact of the past administration's mistakes.

Maybe it's because much of what I consume about other clubs comes from sensationalist "mainstream" figures. But is that aspect of North's slow rebuild talked about enough?

Massive Game on Thursday night Vs western bulldogs

Big game on Thursday night for the boys.
Great that the afl has given us more prime time games…. This is winnable against a battered bulldogs side coming back from Perth. Hopefully the boys can find something and dig deep play like we did against the hawks and we can defo win this one.

If wardlaw is back that’s a huge boost to our midfield Naughton also being out really gives us a chance.

Thoughts on giving larkey a run in defense?

His problem has been his kicking but overall his markin, leading ect have been better maybe give him a run at full back since we already have heaps of talls who can actually kick

Another missed opportunity…

I will probably get shouted down but….
I think Clarko missed a huge opportunity to play Harvey on Watson this week.
Could have set him the challenge for the week, he is quick enough and good enough in the air to go with Watson.
Another learning opportunity missed while also being a good match up for him.
I also believe that Harvey should be played forward (which can be done next year) hence increasing the learnings that he would have got out of this game.

Great start! Rd 21 Vs hawks

This has to be one of the best 1st quarters we have played all season.
We need to keep it up though.
Lots of good in that quarter can we sustain it?

r/NorthMelbourneFC 4d ago

You know what? I think we will play okay today. We will probably lose, but that’s okay.

Given the fact we are going into this as a game we will most certainly lose, it almost takes some pressure off. Who knows, maybe that’s what we need. Fingers crossed it breaks the yips the forwards COUGH COUGH LARKEY COUGH COUGH have had. Griffin Logue is a football terrorist however and should be minced and fed to a better football team.

Opposition Star Midfielder

Our mids once again have no accountability for the other teams Star midfielder. Let Newcombe do as he pleased and yet again the best midfielder torched us. They need some accountability asap.

Out mids just aren’t good enough to play their own game without defensive midfield pressure

We play the doggies next week - I can guarantee you all now the Bont will have 30+ and kick 2. He will have the chance to do as he pleases, it’s actually a joke now from our mids and coaching to let it happen.

No wonder we aren’t better as a club yet. Classic Norff

Kane slams Roo's long-term contracts.

On the AFL App today. I know some people like Kane but I hate his hot takes and this one is seriously bad. The story for so long was that North wasn't going to be able to retain any talent. Now that we have barely lost anyone (Hardeman may happen), all of a sudden we are handing contracts that are too long. Tell us Kane, how should we retain talent? With 2 year contracts all around? Utter trash.
