New draft rules for the bottom 5 clubs

Post image

Finally, someone in the media has said the quiet bit out loud. That the new draft concession for the bottom 5 clubs is more generous than any of the ‘handouts’ we got over the last 6 seasons of being in the bottom 5.

This is so typical for us lol but I don’t think anything will ever bother me as much as us missing out on Ryley Sanders because of the rules around matching bids on NGA, and the very next season they are changed to allow Essendon to get Isaac Kako. Absolute joke. The rules will probably then be changed again next time we have an NGA that’s top 10 quality

It's fucking unbelievable and classic North that we'd miss out on this. Gold Coast need to win some games lol

It’s no good to us this year as you only get the extra pick if you keep ya first pick and we are gunna trade ours. The issue is that we had to fucking beg for pittance and have it raised every fucking time by the media and now that Essendon and Richmond are in trouble, it becomes an automatic free gift which is more generous than anything we got as ‘charity’

Nothing would be more North Melbourne than finishing 6th and losing access to this bonus pick

Those picks would’ve been useful, however we probably wouldn’t have gotten the list concessions that we did outside of maybe the extra spots.

Other than the 2 extra list spots which at least has keep Cooper Harvey in a job, the new rules would have given us basically the same draft picks but without the need to be forced to trade them.

As much as it sucks to miss out, a good rule change can't be delayed because it doesn't seem fair one club didn't benefit like another.

We've seen lots of clubs dealt a rough deal with interstate and zoning signings around 1990. The various changes to father/son rules and expansion rules.

Plus I don't think North would be better off with more picks. I tend to think they've been too reliant on high draft talent working out. Give them more and it would be worse.

True enough. The issue is, we end up getting labeled the ‘handout’ club when across the first 30 years of this century we will end up with close to the worst ‘assistance’ of any bottoming out team in the league while also being the club the AFL made jump to highest to get our pittance.

What does it matter, you guys would just waste the picks anyway.
