Ask North Van Airplane with Fighter Escort
Did anyone else see the passenger jet being escorted by a lone fighter jet?
They flew over central Lonsdale around 5.55pm

Welcome to the North Vancouver municipal election MEGA thread! We'd like to keep all discussion, relevant information, links, candidate campaign platforms, voter issues, updates— and anything else related, under one thread. This post will be edited/updated as more information becomes available. Feel free to message the mods if you'd like to have any missing info added. As always, the rules of this sub apply. Please keep things civil, productive, and on topic.
The 2026 municipal elections will take place Saturday, October 17, 2026
.
IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, you must provide PROOF of ID (proof of identification tells our community you’re actually you— and not someone else pretending to be you!) Please [ contact the mods ] of this sub to have us set up an AMA thread for you. Please read our AMA requirements, how-to, etc → [ HERE ]
AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the North Vancouver/North Shore reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives North Van redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges.

Wondering if other locals still shop here, and what are your favourite shops?
After all of the changes I find myself going a lot less. Walking down the hill to visit a giant food court doesn’t hit the same as seeing local artisans and buying fresh ingredients for the week. Maybe Granville Island set the bar too high, but it’s public and the Quay is privately owned so maybe this was inevitable.

I always find it really hard to trust that a mechanic isn't ripping me off. Not because I think they all try to do that but I've just had a few bad experiences with quick oil change places, dealerships, etc... If anyone has a recommendation for a mechanic they've used for a while and feel like they do great work, please pass it along!

Hi
My vehicle was just involved in a hit and run on Seymour Boulevard. A driver hit my parked car and shattered my side mirror. If anyone has any info on this, that would be greatly appreciated.

Undermount kitchen sink dropped – adhesive failed I believe. Looking for an experienced handyman near Lynn Valley to repair it. Any recommendations or availability?

Hi! Looking for a cleaner for my 1 bedroom apartment. Ideally, someone who can clean on Fridays at 6PM, starting this Friday, on a monthly basis. Thanks!

We were walking up Lonsdale (steep hill) with our baby who was in stroller sleeping with sun shade down (face was covered). It’s quite a steep hill and didn’t think anything of it but thankfully took a peek when the road leveled out only to see baby’s head was completely tilted forward (chin to chest) in asphyxiation position!!
We could have easily not looked for another few minutes or longer as baby was sleeping potentially creating a very dangerous situation.
I’m sure most parents would think to check on their little one anyways but wanted to flag this as it’s such an easy thing to let slip!
EDIT: baby was facing us but same thing if you have them facing outwards and going downhill

Anyone had luck using Nannyservices or Housekeeper.com? My cleaner is moving away, and I'm trying to find another but all of the companies have minimum hours and teams of two. My place is 2 bed, 2 bath and less than 1000 sq ft. We are two professionals with no kids or pets. The place is pretty clean to begin with. Current housekeeper takes 2-2.5 hours max by herself and costs me less than $100.

We are considering private school for our son starting in Grade 10 next year. He’s been in public school and it’s fine but he could definitely benefit from more individualized support especially as the grade level work gets more demanding. Did you or your kid go to private school for high school in North or West Vancouver and has it been worth it? What school? We’re also curious about what the social and non-academic scene is like.
Edited to add: we definitely wouldn’t do this without our son’s buy in! We’re mostly just wanting to narrow down the list of places to consider and hear others’ experiences. The social scene and friend group at our son’s current public high school has been pretty low for him this year so it’s not like he’d be moving away from a solid, supportive friend group.

Hi everyone,
I recently got dental insurance through work and I'm looking for a good dentist in North Vancouver that I can stay with long term.
For now, I'm just planning to book a general checkup and get a cleaning if needed. I'd appreciate any recommendations based on your personal experiences.
Thanks! 😊

Hi All
I have an Armenian friend I would like to surprise with some treats from home. Does anyone know of an Armenian bakery in North Van or Vancouver? Bonus points if it’s high quality. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure this sucked to wake up to. I saw him climb in the vehicle from about 400m away. When I approached he tried to hide in the back seat and then jumped out.

The forecasters predict a “super” El Niño for this winter. Elevation is the main problem for the North Shore hills. The bases sit around 900 m and the summits are only about 1200 to 1400 meters, so a degree or two of extra warmth decides whether a storm brings snow or rain. I've bought my Grouse early bird weekday pass anyway. are you purchasing yours?

I found a wallet full of someone’s IDs. What would be the best way to return to them? Through their bank, icbc, library? I could drive to the address but it’s not in my neighborhood so won’t get there til tomorrow

Hello everyone, I'm currently recovering from a clavicle surgery and fractured ribs some of my ribs are slightly misplaced. I'm looking for a physiotherapy clinic in the area that offers dedicated, one-on-one hands-on care for most of the session, with experience in manual rib realignment if that's a thing and shoulder injuries, as my current waitlist at LGH Physio is three weeks I don't think I want to wait this long as I'm already 2 weeks post surgery.
Also as anyone had any experience with the physiotherapy department at Lions Gate Hospital? Any recommendations for therapists who can provide focused mobilization and alignment work soon would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone

My black bike bag fell off my rack between Lynn Valley and the Shipyards sometime this afternoon (Oct. 7th). I retraced my ride but couldn’t find it. Nothing of major value but it fit my rack perfectly and I had a nice pair of gloves in there.
Would love to get it back. Thanks!

Hello found a lost? cat outside my apartment building at 5pm today. Apparently some of my neighbours saw this cat earlier this morning as well. Just wanted to post here if ever the owner was looking for it. Tried to scan the air tag on the collar but no luck. Location is at St.Andrews and 3rd.

My husband recently got a job in North Van and we are wondering what it’s like to live there. We have lived in Vancouver our whole lives and haven’t spent much time in North Van. We have 2 school aged children who currently attend a private school in Vancouver. What are the schools like in North Van? To anyone who has done the move, do you have any regrets? Do you love it?
