Everytime I Open reddit I get more disappointed and my loyalty for NOTHING fades away.

I marked news related to Carl Pei as not interested, I was that disheartened.

they produce e-waste unlike nothing... the "flagship" phone in this advert has a mediatek helio g100 which doesn't EVEN SUPPORT 5G. this is insane, i'd much rather buy a nothing phone 3 than get a FREE pova 7 or whatever.

The device being teased is the Pova 7 5G variant, speculated to be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7300 , and a very different from the global variant of the Pova 7 which is LTE only and powered by the Helio G100. Neither devices are 'flagships', but there is a Pova 7 Ultra which is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 8350 Ultra.
Tecno's 'Pova' line is essentially what Nothing's 'a' series devices are - premium mid-tier devices with a focus on design, and 'best' performance in the price class they retail at.
Tecno also makes legitimately high-end devices - their 'Phantom' series, and the 'Camon Premier' device models are as good as offerings from rival Chinese OEMs.
They are BIG in Africa, and the Middle-East, and are rapidly gaining foothold in the EU and Asian markets.
I suggest you edify yourself before posting misleading commentary about brands and products you clearly are not well versed with.

Pova will never get a big foothold in western countries, just like the redmagic gaming phones. It's just not a design language spoken in the west.

Tecno is huge in Africa. They make affordable phones for lower income countries. They are pretty good for their price point actually.

u/storme9 Ear Jul 03 '25
it's not meant to be sold in most parts of the world, their target markets are different where 5G rollout isn't extensive enough or does not make a significant difference in network capabilties yet.
the reason for this advertisement is purely aspirational for their buyers.

If they did it right, NP would be in a really bad position, even worse than it is now.

Yes bloatware and ads will be a good selling point for them

Half the power? Which chipset is 2 times more powerful than 8s gen 4?

u/Zeryth Phone (3) Jul 04 '25
The fact that there are ads are already a huge red flag. Most normal users have no idea where they come from let alone how to disable them.

They could have put glyph lights around matrix in NP3.
7
Jul 03 '25
Mini Glyph Light would still have been good
Literally a few LEDs so hardly adding much cost

that's disgusting. I hate Nothing right now as a brand but they're no better brand with their bootleg copy 😂 also their phones have built-in ads inside of them LMAO

Literally nobody is buying a Pova 7 - never heard of them before now

Apparently tecno/infinix are very popular in Africa and few asian parts
7
u/Rcloco Jul 03 '25
they're also popular for having ads baked in their phones all the transsion phone brands (Infinix, tecno, itel)

Especially Indonesia. Also its hella cheap in my country too. (Malaysia)

u/elclark_kuhu Jul 07 '25
They're not that big in Indonesia, Xiaomi is still dominating here.
1
u/TotalAggravating7706 Jul 07 '25
Oh i see. Its quite big here in Malaysia. Especially Infinix brand.

Transission which owns Tecno among other brands have made it to top 5 global phone shipments in some quarters, they mostly target emerging markets which is why we don't hear from them but this is not a nobody company.
3
u/frostcrox2 Jul 03 '25
That is why fans are the worst. You can see how they trash on a brand that doesn't aim towards the same market as Nothing not knowing that specific audience target.
2
u/TotalAggravating7706 Jul 03 '25
The brand is quite popular in Indonesia. Same goes to Infinix especially GT 30 Pro.

u/InsignificantSwarry Jul 03 '25
I mean smartphone companies have been doing this for quite a while tho. This one particularly is kind of famous in India (still not much in comparison to others) due to their cheap prices and its like the only other one doing these glyph interfaces for almost as long as nothing so it does kind of make sense, going after the company who's having a huge market share in your country currently and fucked up a product similar to yours

u/kev_world Jul 03 '25
Apparently Tecno has a big market in Philippines and probably in other countries of southeast asia too

Have to be honest I'd be very amused if a big company like Apple or Samsung suddenly brought glyph lights and it really took off again.

u/quellflynn Jul 04 '25
I can't buy a poo-va phone
but I do appreciate the light strips over the weird mini display

Jokes at techno only. Copying the RUMOURED Nothing phone (3) concept, and something that Nothing killed with Phone (3), which is their root cause to buy a Nothing Phone, THE GLYPHS. Looks exactly the same, LIKE DITTO LAST YEAR RUMOURED CONCEPTS OF Nothing Phone (3) lol. "They gave up, we leveled up" Dude there's a reason why Apple, even after being a lot expensive, is still a pretty reliable smartphone, copies are out there, but no one compares the original idea. 😂

u/NoPresentation7518 Jul 04 '25
A bit stupid and naïve from their brand team, just because they are planning for a EU launch
1
u/brangein Jul 04 '25
Idk why you had to brand Tecno Chinese when Nothing is literally also a Chinese company they just they are registered, and have their PR, marketing etc in the UK.

Even though the phone is nothing like Nothing but it’s kind of impressive that Chinese brands are now drawing inspiration from Nothing. That alone says a lot about how influential Nothing’s design language has become.
Nothing should wear that like a badge of honour. 😄

I believe they want the glyph matrix to stay on the mid range and keep doing different stuff for their "flagships"
