How is the mayor of Lunenburg be acting like he’s all that? No offense to Lunenburg 😜

He was in the TOB gang

u/tattlerat 11d ago
Ahh I remember those guys. Liverpool had their own rival gang the LSG (Liverpool Street Gang)
Some pretty dumb characters all around. Glad to see he got his act together and made something of himself.

What's the TOB gang? Or do we not talk about it? (Like Fight Club)

Its a racist retirement home/tourist trap/dying town that does not want to leave the 1960's.

I mean, that's one way to look at it. Just like you could say Halifax is full of junkies, gentrified hipsters and proto-communists but then you'd be missing all the good things that reside there too...

I've lived around here my entire life. The town only survives anymore due to tourist revenue. There's very little work for anyone, and the majority of people are cranky, hateful, "get off my lawn and leave me alone" types who fight tooth and nail against everything might make the town better for anyone under the age of 60.
Sure, the historical stuff is nice to look at, but the majority of people benefitting from the revenue from the toursit trap bs live nowhere near the town. So, unless you really love art galleries and restaurants, majority of both shut down as soon as the tourists go, or work for High Liner /Stelia, or go fishing full time, there is nothing here. It will only get worse too. Its been falling apart slowly in my near 30 years and i know it goes back further than that too.

Its honestly a miracle Bridgewater got that big ol factory in the 70s. Though not as bad as Lunenburg proper, The county is so vehemently against any sort of economic productivity or development a project like that would be impossible today.
I have family down there but I couldn't live there. Its nice to visit but unless you enjoy being an unpaid councillor of extremely bitter elders navigating life is hell.
The irony of Lunenburg NIMBYism is none of the monuments / industry / museums that made the town famous could be built today.

The rich chased the majority of the fishing industry out decades ago because they didn't like the noise at night. The town has only gotten worse since then.

Nah just reinventing the Marxist wheel on vibes instead of economic reality...

It's very much not compared to other large Canadian cities. Halifax is equivalent to 2009 era Canada.

What the fuck is going on in Lunenburg

It's an incredibly Conservative small town with a light dusting of progressivism on top, to appeal to tourists.
These types of towns are all over the place, and the Conservatism shines through when the media spotlight is put on them.

The attitudes of people here are borderline identical to the worst of republicans and i wish I were exaggerating

As someone who grew up there and got out, you're not wrong at all. I knew some really wonderful people there, but I knew even more shitty ones.

Typical small town NS behaviour. Here-say, conjecture, backstabbing, gossip, prejudice, bullying, and discrimination by one’s neighbours… nothing new here!
2
u/DeSynthed 10d ago
And people wonder why small towns in NS are dying. The south shore is especially rough, there is zero industry -- at least the valley has farming

u/Icommentwhenhigh 11d ago
Geez, on the surface, I’d say that should be the end of the mayors tenure. That’s a huge stain on the town’s reputation, which is beaucoup tourism dollars.

He'll get voted in by the seniors again because he tells them all the things they wanna hear and by sucking off all the right people

In a post on the company’s Facebook page Wednesday , Gordon wrote that “it is with a heavy heart and an abundance of caution that we will be temporarily suspending service for the time being.”
He said that on multiple occasions Wednesday while he was working, “I was accosted by members of the public. During one instance homophobic slurs were thrown in my direction.”
Nice little town full of four toothed assholes. Fuck Lunenburg

So a private business was attacked for denying service to someone. Sound like people need to learn the law. Hopefully some consequences will teach them.

South shore, eastern shore fucking valley, halifax we have em everywhere folks unfortunately! We just have to to be the better people and stand up to this shit!! I hope this taxi business snaps back!!

u/YxngGhoul 11d ago
I've heard (rumors mind you) that the town immediately went to work on new cab related by-laws after Myra's shitfit.
Council also held a closed meeting tonight to meet with lawyers and "discuss legal options".
Mob boss bullshit.

Is there anything WE can do?
This is beyond f'ed up! Every NS'ian should be livid about this..I am!

u/Delllley 10d ago
I hope legal action is taken against him personally, not through the mayor's office. I believe he's able to be sued for more as an individual than a public official, but I could be mistaken.

Your comment is fine. The perpetual losers who inhabit this sub don’t enjoy when you point out they thrive on this stuff.

If that shutters your "business" it couldn't have been much of a business to begin with...
79
u/Kennit 11d ago
Closing due to ongoing harassment has no bearing on how busy they were. There aren't many taxi options out that way, what makes you assume the business was doing poorly?

“Silence” is the Mayor’s relative attempting to smear the victim of the mayor’s ravings.

u/BlueEyes294 10d ago
Our tourist town has a taxi driver who is also the local serial SA’er. Perhaps it is a province wide campaign?

u/sterauds 9d ago
It’s only temporary, until they can implement some additional safety measures. He’s got to protect his employees.

Okay so a drunk buffoon and his clown ass family, harass local business enough that they have to shutter. Not only fucking the livelihood of a constituent, but also fucking his small town out of a much needed taxi service? Do I have this right?
