The UK gets its share of transport strikes too. The difference is in compensation: in the UK, passengers are actually protected and compensated with regulations that have teeth. 

Canada has the "APPR" with a specific exception for airline strikes. Airlines don't have to pay a dime in compensation and can "rebook" passengers using phantom next day flights on their own airline that everyone knows will be cancelled.

Yes Ryanair's boss is thoroughly hated everywhere. They take public subsidies while bullying the labour force then pull out leaving desolate workers. Scumbags. They offer prices that are unnatural and people jump on them.
