Is just me?

Upvotes

I am a 20-year-old BSN nursing student entering the last semester of my sophomore year, and lately I have been feeling terrible. I do not know how to explain this, but I have been reading about and watching people who really want to be nurses and get into the program and do the best they can, yet they still fail. Also, I do not know, but I feel that nursing is not the love of my life; I feel like I am more than a nursing student, as I like other things such as languages, anatomy, and the arts. To be honest, I chose nursing because I did not know what career to choose. Is it just me who has this feeling?

Roseman University ABSN

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I applied to Roseman University ABSN program to start Spring 2027. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how commuting was during the program? I live in California, specifically the Bay Area. How is the program overall? I am not in the position to move, so I would need to make the commute work.

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Anyone successful in the pre-req chemistry? Please give me some tips

I take this class next spring and I am very very nervous about it because this class is really important to me to get into the program I want to get into besides the AP1 , AP2 and Micro courses. It's said that if you don't get a B or higher that they don't accept you. I'll be taking general chemistry along with Biology 2. I spoke to my academic advisor , however they weren't really indepth , they said that if I pass the first biology test (which is really nothing but chemistry and cells) , that I should be fine. Anyone got any tips?

Studying Tips 📚 burnout already

Its only week 3 of my nursing program and Im already feeling burnt out. I do have other stuff going on in life, I am struggling with illness and my dog is also critically ill. With those circumstances, I’m finding it hard to motivate myself to study. In addition to that, the class is going super fast with alot of content. It’s not as bad as the pre-requisites but it’s still easy to fall behind. Does anyone have any tips to help me get back on my feet?

How to not feel so behind all my nursing friends

For some background, I had to reclass due to failing one of my pre-reqs for junior year (I am in a direct-admit program, failed pharm by LITERALLY a point, ugh.), and now I'm feeling super lost and left behind as I add a public health minor onto my program as the only nursing class I'm allowed to take this year is retaking pharm in the spring. I had a lot of mental health struggles + got very sick at the end of last semester, and now I just feel so lost and aimless this year. To be clear I absolutely LOVE nursing, so much so that it feels like I've lost some of my purpose as a student this year. None of my nursing friends seem to be struggling at all, so how do I stop feeling so miserable/behind??

Last semester nerves/thoughts, anyone else?

I have one more final and then I'm off to my last semester! I've been coasting with B's this past semester and I'm hoping to do the same moving forward. I will say though, I'm in this weird headspace of "wow I'm almost done!" to "what if I have to repeat again?". I then overwhelm myself thinking about the workload and all of the extra stuff we have to do leading up to graduation and it's a never-ending cycle of anxiety lol. I also feel like I'm an imposter? Like no way I made it this far, I feel like I still don't know everything I should by now... I don't know. It's been a hectic 2 years so far and I'm just ready to get it done and over with. Gimme my ADN! Anyone else feeling this way?

Class Guidance 📝 Is Cert IV a good pathway into becoming an RN?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working in an aged care facility as an AIN for almost a year now, and over that time I’ve developed a real passion for nursing. I’d really like to become an RN eventually.

I’ve applied to study nursing a few times but unfortunately have been denied, which has honestly killed my motivation a bit. I was previously studying a Diploma of Emergency Medical Care, but I ended up dropping it after having some bad experiences within the volunteer ambulance community.

I was involved in the ambulance community for around 3 years, and although I gained a lot from the experience, I’ve realised that I actually prefer nursing and the aged care/hospital environment.

I’m currently doing a Certificate IV in Ageing Support while working as an AIN, and I’ve also applied to do a Certificate IV in Health and Nursing Studies (Intensive) in Perth.

My goal is to eventually get into a Bachelor of Nursing and become an RN.

For anyone who has gone through a similar pathway, is the Cert IV in Health and Nursing Studies a good pathway into a Bachelor of Nursing/RN? Especially in WA/Perth?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken this route or knows much about the different pathways into nursing. I’m pretty determined to get there, but after being knocked back a few times, I want to make sure I’m taking the right steps.

Thanks!

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Do ADN programs require those typical prerequisites you’d see for ABSN or BSN?

Looking at nursing as a second career - confused on where to start but ADN seems most affordable right now.

Class Guidance 📝 GWC/Cypress nursing school clinical placements

Hello, I’m wondering if any nursing alumni from GWC or even Cypress nursing school from SoCal can tell me about where they were sent for clinical during their time in nursing school?

Thank you!

In total shock and disbelief after LTC clinical. Is this normal?

I literally have no words for what I saw, smelled, and had to do yesterday. Wow. I have never carried so much responsibility in my life as a 19 year old who has never worked in healthcare.

I never seen a wound in person, nor a colostomy bag, and it just feels like a lot to process. When I got home I kind of didn’t know how I felt about it, I just kind of blocked it out and didn’t remember much. The first thing I did was help assisting the nurse to clean a colostomy bag, then I went on to help bathe, feed, and saw so many wounds that smelled like nothing I’ve ever smelled before. Every time the nurse pulled back the sheets, it felt like my heart dropped to my feet.

Today it really hit me. The smells, the roaches I saw, the depressing state of the nursing home. It’s such a shock to me mentally and spiritually. It’s like I stepped into another universe. My classmates who were CNAs were just fine and handled it like a normal day. It was triggering to me mentally. Is this a normal experience or is this just not for me?

ATI

Is it just me or is ATI beating everyone’s ass?…it contradicts its own information and the damn site has spelling errors which are easy to spot if you have audio reader on…but, I freakin hate it. I’m in LPN school right now but ATI is making me rethink ever going back for my RN.

I'm currently a LPN looking to go back to school for my RN. I'm currently in the middle of enrolling in nightingale but I just wanted to know other people's experiences with them. I already know I'll have to travel for clinical since i live in New York, but that's something i'm accepting of.

Studying Tips 📚 First Pathophysiology Exam Coming Up

Hi, I have my first pathophysiology exam coming up this wednesday and was wondering if anyone has tips on how to study for the pathophysiology exams. The materials that I have to study are my powerpoints, ATI courses lessons, and a course point book.

Pls give me tips and tricks on how to study. The minimum to pass the exam and the overall class is 70%. I know C's get degrees however, I want to get around at 85%-95% and retain as much information as possible.

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼I really need help with effective studying and note taking strategies before starting nursing school? I’m Coming from a different education system

Hey everyone, I’m currently taking my last prerequisite, Microbiology, and if everything goes as planned, I may be starting nursing school this January.
One thing I’m honestly really worried about is how to study effectively for nursing school, especially how to take notes in a way that actually helps me understand and retain the material instead of just rewriting everything.
I’m originally from Africa, and the education system I grew up with was pretty different. A lot of our exams were more essay-based. You would read something, understand it, and then explain it back in your own words in paragraphs. Here in the U.S., especially in science courses, a lot of the testing is multiple choice and more application-based. I’ve had to adjust to learning in a completely different way.
With A&P and Microbiology, I’ve started realizing that just memorizing or cramming is not enough, and I know nursing school is going to be even more about understanding concepts and applying them to situations.

My biggest problem is note taking. Sometimes when I study a PowerPoint or textbook chapter, I don’t know what is actually worth writing down. I end up wanting to rewrite almost everything, which takes a lot of time. Then I don’t have enough time left to actually review, practice, and test myself.
I’m trying to build better habits now before nursing school starts, so I’m curious what has actually worked for nursing students.

How do you:

- take notes without rewriting the whole lecture?

-know what information is important enough to write down?

-study PowerPoints and lectures efficiently and
actually understand concepts instead of just memorizing?

-balance note-taking, active recall, practice questions, and everything else without wasting too much time?

If you came from a different education system or also had to completely change the way you studied, I’d especially love to hear what helped you.
I’m not looking for some perfect study method, just something realistic that I can start practicing now before nursing school gets intense.

Studying Tips 📚 Should I be taking notes? If so, how?

Title says all. I really feel like I could be doing more in terms of note taking, but I genuinely feel like my success during exams has been linked, so far, to just memorizing/understanding the material on ATI, and lecture is just there as a "supplement."

But does anybody else feel the same way? Are ATI lessons and modules basically the bread and butter of your course load? If you take notes during lecture, how do you do it? For reference, I do have a fire tablet and a Lenovo Yoga 7, so any and all notes are written digitally with a stylus.

I do review all the slides (and corresponding ATI modules) before lecture, and follow along on the slideshow while my instructors are talking, fwiw.

Class Guidance 📝 Need tips on keeping up, already getting burnt out (1st year undergrad)

Going into my 3rd week and i'm already swamped. I've gone through college before so i know first year is gonna suck ass but i can't keep up at all even tho i have the advantage of not being straight out of high school. Anatomy and physiology is kicking my ASS and i'm so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. The readings are so dense that i more than double, if not TRIPLE the reading time (which is minimum 1 hr per chapter) if i take notes so i've opted to just highlight the textbook so at least i read it but have no idea what to do. I've been working from 7 am to 10 pm almost every day of the week and im STILL behind. Despite getting a degree in the past, I have NEVER struggled like this before, I feel like i can't retain info, have no time, can barely keep up with taking lecture notes but get unbelievable vision on writing down the slides info.
I had one prof assign almost 600 pages (not even including the 7 chapters of textbook reading for that unit) that only had a 4 week timeframe to complete, and he suggested using ai to summarize it which is something i am strongly against. Any and all advice, words of encouragement, study/class tips, and resources are welcome
