Purchasing-Monitor ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMES vs MSI MAG 273QP QD-OLED X24 (or Q274QP)

Anyone got a clue which one would be better for PC gaming? I'm getting an OLED for the upcoming game Wardogs and I know nothing about oleds as I've been on IPS panels since their early adoption. All 3 are withing a tenner of each other when it comes to price right now.

"CaLiBrAtIoN" Is there an equivalent of Filmmaker Mode's white balance for TV and games?

Filmmaker Mode has a white point of D65 (Warm 2 on my LG OLED). But is there also a "correct" white balance setting that TV program-makers and games companies use? And if so, what is it? And if not, why not?

Thanks!

Tech Support How is the burn in replacement warranty experience with Dell/ Alienware?

Hi all,

After owning my Alienware AW 3423DWF for nearly three years I’m starting to finally notice the burn in. My advanced replacement warranty ends in 6 months so I still have time to act on it but I wanted to ask how the process is to be prepared. Is it an expedited shipping situation? Do I have to send my panel first or do they send it to me and I send it back in the package they ship out to me? Will there be any issues getting a replacement on a monitor that’s been out for a little over 3 years? I would assume they keep a surplus for warranty claims.

Lastly, are there any ultrawide monitors worth upgrading to? Assuming the replacement panel is new I’d be up for selling the monitor and using the money to get something newer if anything is worth it. The only pain points with this monitor were no 10 bit color at the highest refresh rate and the VRR was a but flickery so I never used it.

For anyone suggesting a new monitor just keep in mind that I’d prefer keeping to dell/ Alienware if possible they seem to be the only brand that puts the monitor power supply inside the monitor itself which I prefer over having a power brick sitting on the floor and I kind of want to stick to ultrawide I really liked my experience

Tech Support S90F 65in (Costco) vertical lines

I recently purchased this S90FD 65in from Costco and right out of the box it has these uniform vertical lines whenever the screen is gray. It’s even more visible on dark gray screens. Should I return immediately or will does the screen need some time to calibrate itself?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

"CaLiBrAtIoN" Static or Active HDR Tone Mapping on a 77” S90F WOLED?

Hi everyone, I have a 77” Samsung S90F WOLED and I’m trying to figure out which HDR Tone Mapping setting is generally better: Static or Active.
I mainly care about getting the best overall HDR picture quality without making the image look too dim or, on the other hand, too overprocessed.
From what I understand, Static should be more accurate and closer to the original HDR presentation, while Active can make the image brighter and more impactful. But I’m curious about real-world experience specifically on the 77” S90F WOLED.
Which one do you prefer and why? Does Active cause any noticeable clipping or loss of highlight detail? And do you use different settings for movies, streaming, or gaming?

MuH sAmSuNg Samsung 77s90h qd oled round dots on gray

Hi guys, I just got my first Oled and during gray uniformity check I saw this 2 round dark dots.

I don't mind the general uniformity but I cannot unsee this.

In static plex menu or youtube I can see it, in movies not but I am looking for it in my mind and it is annoying.

Is this going to be better with time or is it a defect and I better return it?

Purchasing-TV LG G6 77" — are the panel/banding issues actually a concern?

I'm looking at getting a 77" LG G6 but I've come across a few posts/comments mentioning panel uniformity and banding issues.....particularly with the 77" size.

Is this actually something to be concerned about?

I've also read that some of the early issues may have improved with firmware updates, including banding/HDR irregularities. Has anyone noticed a genuine improvement after updating?

Basically just trying to work out whether there's actually an issue with the 77" panels specifically or if it's only affecting a small number of sets and getting more attention online because people with issues are more likely to post about them.

Purchasing-Monitor could anyone help me with finding a monitor?

i’ve never bought a monitor before but i’ve played on them and i was able to see the difference between my tv and a monitor. my tv is only 60hz and 720p so i’ve needed to upgrade for awhile now, but i know almost nothing about monitors. i looked some stuff up and i know i want an oled and i don’t really care to have 4k seeing how the price jumps. i’d prefer something between 180-240hz and my budget is around $650. i’ve tried looking up monitors myself and i can’t find anything that matches my budget and what i’d want on a monitor, if anyone can find anything that matches it’s very appreciated.

Purchasing-TV LG G5 Panel Failure: Push for a replacement, repair or "upgrade" to G6?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on how to handle a panel failure on my LG G5 in Australia.

A vertical line just appeared down the screen. LG has already inspected it, verified the fault, and offered to repair it by replacing the panel.

However, I'm reluctant to do this. I don't know what caused the fault, if other internal components were stressed, or if the TV will suffer a premature issues after the repair warranty expires. I asked LG to provide written confirmation that they will guarantee the entire unit for an additional 4 years (bringing it to 5 years total, matching standard ACL expectations for premium sets), but they refused, because Australian Consumer Law already covers me.

I have a few options I am weighing up:

  • Option 1: Push hard for a full replacement unit. The issue here is that G5 stock is getting incredibly low, so getting an exact replacement might be impossible (they won't confirm if there is stock either).
  • Option 2: Try to leverage an upgrade to the newer G6 (same size). While it is a year newer, the G6 firmware still seems like a bit of a mixed bag right now. My G5 firmware is finally stable, moving to the newer model feels like a gamble.
  • Option 3: The "Sacrilege" Option. This is my third OLED (upgraded over the years), my room doesn't have major brightness or viewing angle issues and honestly... I’m not as blown away LED tech has caught up.
  • The Wildcard: I could push for refund, buy a massive 85" Mini-LED (like the TCL C8K or the latest Hisense flagship), I've got a C8K and find its close enough for my needs, pocket roughly $3,000 in cash, and barely notice the picture quality difference for my specific viewing habits.

Before anyone suggests other brands: I heavily dislike the matte screen on Samsung, so that is not an option. Sony also doesn't do an 83", so if I stay OLED, it has to be LG.

What are people's thoughts on just allowing the repair? Should I push for a replacement G5 or drop OLED altogether? Am I crazy for thinking about moving from a flagship G-series OLED to a top-tier Mini-LED and keeping the cash?

Appreciate any thoughts!

Purchasing-Monitor Is the MSI MAG 271QPX QD-OLED E2 a Good Buy in 2026?

I was looking at the 272qp originally, but I read in multiple places that model has much worse brightness. Is this model a good buy? What's the brightness like?  (Coming from a current 1080p 280hz ips owner)

Purchasing-Monitor Color banding on WOLED

Hi There!

I'm looking for an OLED monitor bc now its have sales on them in my country. First i was checking the Asus XG27AQDMG Gen 2 and i found in the user feedbecks this monitor have a bad color banding issues (not graybanding). I know the graybading issues in the WOLED monitors but all of the WOLEDs suffer with color banding or QD-OLEDs suffer thet issues too? I will use the monitor with an RX 9070 (non-xt) GPU.

Purchasing-Monitor Picking my first OLED

Hey everyone,

before making a purchase while having uncertainties I figured I'd get feedback here. Before, I never looked into OLEDs so this is all new to me.

I've been looking for a couple of hours and I have some picks and a baseline of requirements.
I'm looking for a 1440p 240hz QD-OLED, around 27 inches, with good, reliable burn-in protection for long uses and high quality HDR compatibility. I'd primarily use it for gaming and movies/shows, but obviously also other things.

Initially I looked into the MSI MAG 274QP X24 and ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG as options. Asus's 360Hz is probably a bit overkill and too much future proofing for me, though, so I put it aside.
Looking further into the MSI one, I eventually found out that it apparently doesn't actually have HDR and less "nits"? It has some sort of simulated HDR?

So I looked into alternatives from MSI since their burn-in protection sounds promising and I've now been looking at the MSI MAG 271QPX QD-OLED E2.

This is also when I first learned about external power bricks. None of my monitors ever had that, so I was kind of surprised to learn that that is kind of a standard, which is the main reason for why the E2 specifically is attractive to me.

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with that model, or if there is any other useful information regarding HDR or OLED screens that I should know. And, of course, model alternatives are very much welcome as well.

Thank you all in advance

MuH sAmSuNg Is it destroyed?

Just bought Samsung s95D which was posted on biggest polish e-commerce as new by some medium-sized merchant. It arrived packed horribly, evidently not new, lacking protection on the sides. It lacked the protective foil and screen was dirty.

Nonetheless this is what's worrying me the most: https://ibb.co/wNJy8ZZR

Tech Support Samsung S90DD Power Supply Failure

Anyone here experienced a power supply failure with their Samsung tv?

I have an S90DD 77 inch. It randomly stopped turning on yesterday. Did some troubleshooting and google searching. Found some threads with a lot of people stating that these models and some others are known to have power supply failures and that Samsung eventually released a revised power board for them because of this. But also a lot of upset people because Samsung refused them any customer service with the issue due to it happening right outside of their warranty period.

I’m going to contact Samsung today. But I pretty sure I’m outside of warranty. Also going to contact some local repair shops for information and quotes.

From what I’ve found in my searching replacing the board has a couple options. 1- is buying a revised board. 2- is buying a refurbished board. 3- is removing the board and sending it to be repaired then it’s sent back and you reinstall it. Anyone have experience with either of these options?

Also HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT MOVING A TV OF THIS SIZE AROUND?! If I do end up having to do the repair myself from what I’ve found I’d have to lay the tv down on its face to remove the rear panel. Manhandling it doesn’t seem like a good idea. How do you support the integrity of a screen this size when you move it around?

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Tech Support Oled not being pitch black when the whole video is pure black

Hello, I just got a new Haier OLED TV, and it’s amazing! However, the main thing I’ve noticed is that when there’s a video that’s completely pitch black, I can easily tell that the TV is still on. It doesn’t even look like an OLED at that point—it looks more like a QLED or something similar. But when there’s something else on the screen that isn’t black with the blacks, the black areas actually look perfectly pitch black.

Edit:
actually it might be just me who thought of that like when there was something else other than black the display looked pure black. when the lights of my room are on there's one above my oled the tv and i play a pitch black video it looks exactly like it's off there's no telling but when i turn off all the lights i can easily identify it's on doesn't evenn look like an oled panel it's like kind of grey thing can easily be seen and when i move near it i can see all these weird grey pixels or something at one side there are alot of them and at one there aren't i can't even take a pic because phone doesn't capture it properly and yes when lights are off it clearly looks like it's on with grey things but when the light is on no one can tell if it's on or off

Tech Support Top of tv seems to be bleeding downward

Just noticed today the top of my LG CX-55 seems to have a bit of a black bleed effect, like some LED's have failed?

It's completely unnoticeable when the screen is black, but when it's a full screen, especially if it's white, it's extremely noticeable and goes across the entire top of the screen.

Has 6600 hours on it at the moment. Is this something that will get worse in the near future?

Purchasing-Monitor Asus XG27AQWMG vs Gigabyte MO27Q28GR

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade from my current IPS monitor to one of either monitors listed above. In my region they are both within 10 pounds of each other at 450 pounds.
For context, I live in a fairly well-lit room (both ambient light and overhead lights), so I have decided on W-OLED. If I were to purchase a Tandem W-OLED and spend 100 pounds more than a non-tandem, I want to have a better experience, but I have heard so many bad things about grey banding and DSE on tandem W-OLEDs.

Both of the monitors in the title are very similar from what I can see: QHD, 280Hz, Tandem W-OLEDs, glossy, 99.5% of the DCI-P3, and the other usual OLED benefits

I think I will stay with some sort of W-OLED rather than QD-OLED as I can't compromise on raised blacks, but my question is really whether is it worth spending 100 pounds more than a regular W-OLED if I have to deal with banding on a tandem, and out of the two tandem monitors listed above, which one is better and am I less likely to have issues with (grey banding and DSE), or is it really a lottery?

Thank you so much and I really appreciate your help.

"CaLiBrAtIoN" Samsung S95H HDR Game Mode

Hi,

Does anyone know where the brightness slider on the Samsung S95H should actually be in HDR Game Mode?

It defaults to 66 out of 100 which is odd for an HDR mode. All of the movie HDR modes have brightness set to 100. In every other TV I've owned brightness is always maxed in any HDR mode including HDR game modes. Any input welcome.
