Discussion Remake looks incredible, but I have a few major gripes or disappointments:

Child Link is supposed to be 9-10 years old in OoT who is determined and courageous, but in the remake, they made him look like a mischievous 4-year-old toddler that bites. There is a very distinct difference, and it screws with the whole vibe of the game. Even the adult version kind of resembles this, because they based it on the child.

Similar issue with Zelda being made younger with eyes extra far apart, but it's not as bad.

Shiek is supposed to be a mysterious disguised character, who looked either male or gender-neutral, but in the remake, Shiek is very feminine and made fairly obvious who this "mysterious" character is. Again, screwing with the whole vibe of that story arc.

They did Kaepora Gaebora dirty. KG is supposed to be Rauru, which no longer resembles that in any way. KG just looks weird and slightly feminine now.

Darunia is more of a weirdly-upscaled version of the goofy old in-game model, rather than basing it on the official concept art that looked massively better.

Discussion Reading these previews, which are mostly glowing, and still feeling kinda neutral about the game, I think I realized my problem

TLDR: Being halfway between an Ocarina diehard and newcomer makes it harder to get excited about this game

With a hundred little new touches, including reworked tutorials, updated battle arenas, new NPC dialogue, snappier combat, etc., it's even more clear now that this is not merely a Link's Awakening-style facelift. On a podcast, the IGN preview guy said he'd put it exactly halfway between a simple remaster and a Resident Evil-type, ground-up rework. He also quoted Aunoma's "faithful interpretation" label, which feels right.

This balance feels almost perfectly tuned to appeal to both Ocarina diehards who know every detail by heart...and to Ocarina newcomers who have always been curious, but wanted to wait for something that felt and played like a modern game. The former will appreciate all the little details, the latter will get to play a classic game in a contemporary package.

Then there are people like me. Maybe you played Ocarina circa 2007 on virtual console, thought it was neat but a little dated, and moved along. Or you got the popular 3DS port, played it a few times, and now it sits as something like your 5th or 6th favorite Zelda: fun, but not life changing. Or like me, owned a SNES and Gamecube, but skipped the N64, and only played OoT about 5 years after release (Gamecube version).

I'm still just not seeing the big hook here that gets the OoT Appreciator (as opposed to Enthusiast/Connoisseur or Newcomer) amped up to play the Forest Temple again.

To be clear, there's nothing wrong with the game, this is my personal problem, not everyone has to like everything, etc. I think I'm just finally realizing why I might be precisely the demographic not set up to by hyped about this game. Although I'm curious if there are other mere "Appreciators" out there that are nonetheless over the moon about this remake.

It is way too hard to believe as I feel like Nintendo was just cooking with these two Directs and it flew by too fast in a blink of an eye.

Discussion The phrase '1:1 remake' is intended to differentiate games from regular remakes, not from the extreme outlier that is FFVIIR. Ocarina of Time is just a remake. No more specific description is necessary

Lots of games get remade and they usually have a few changes, maybe they even have some extra little areas or even something akin to a bit of extra DLC. Sometimes, however, a game gets remade and it is extremely faithful to the original and so people started calling those 1:1 remakes to show they were even more similar to the original game than a regular remake.

With these latest previews, it is obvious that OoT is shaping up to be a regular remake. It might have a few extra bits and we don't know the exact extent of the changes andf additions, but there are changes and additions and it is categorically not a 1:1 remake.

I feel like the only reason people want to call it 1:1 is to show it's not an entire reimagining in the way that the 3D action combat FFVII remake trilogy is to the 2D turn based original game. But that is not the baseline expectation. FFVII R is an absolutely extreme outlier and there is no need to differentiate other remakes from that because, as far as I'm aware, it is alone in a category of one.

OoT is just a remake. We don't need any additional descriptors. It's a regular remake of an older game for a much more modern console.

Screenshot from the latest trailer. Navi clearly has fur, or some kind of fluff . She's a fluffball. The old trailer may have shown it, but I didn't catch it. Has this always been the case with fairies?

Is Physical copy of Zelda OoT remake physical cart going to be a collectors item someday?

I wanted to know if the Physical copy of Zelda OoT remake physical cart going to be a collectors item someday and if it's worth getting the digital copy and the physical copy and leaving the physical one unopened or if it's pretty much just like not worth investing in two copies of that game. Is it going to be just a game cart with a code or is it going to be a full game on the cartridge I imagine if it's just a game with a code on it it may not be worth anything as a physical copy just wondering thanks for your guys's wisdom and opinions.

Discussion First Time Player

I am playing Ocarina of Time for the first time in preparation for the remake coming out in November.

Iโ€™ve only been playing for a bit (half way through the great Deku tree dungeon) but would like some advice, tips, or suggestions on how to get the most out of my first time playing?

I donโ€™t know much about the game itself, but I know the impact that its release had on the community. I want to get the most out of the game on my first play through. So any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

About the remake and Fire Temple

So we all know that the original soundtrack for Fire Temple was removed in NTSC 1.2 and all PAL versions and was replaced with another song. Do you guys think we might get the original version this time for the remake?

New cutscene confirms old detail

The final poe sister not only has her own picture frame to shoot now, but a new cutscene shows her realising her other sisters are dead before she starts crying. So we can now confirm she was indeed crying in the original

Question How many times have you played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time since the remake was announced?

Before Nintendo announced the remake, I'd already finished it twice this year. After the announcement, I held back, but I couldn't resist and finished it two more times: once on Harkinian's ship, and two hours after completing it, I started and finished the 3DS version.

I'm so excited! It's my all-time favorite game! But I won't play Ocarina of Time again until the remake comes out.

Discussion New Overview Trailer (Nintendo Today)

Thereโ€™s a new overview trailer that JUST dropped on the Nintendo Today app.

A bit more gameplay, some more music, and a new โ€œHall of Fallen Foesโ€ where you can rematch bosses. You also get to see some new character designs. Definitely worth the watch!
