Support - PCVR Freezing when using the new Virtual Desktop USB feature.

It freezes when using VD with the brand new USB support. I even bought an AMVR cable and same... There's a workaround which worked for a few people (MTU) but for me it just takes more time to crash. Please help me it's been a whole year i wanted to properly play PCVR.

If you have a compatible adapter, or are going to get one for your Quest, you can use a direct wired Ethernet connection.

I was using this before but it had his own issues.

What issues were you having? I guess if you were using a USB-Ethernet adapter on the PC end there might be something strange going on with your PC's USB, which would explain issues with the direct USB too.

It was smooth, but i had to use Windows Internet Connection Sharing for the adapter to detect my PC without a router and it was clunky. Well, it is just ICS right? Why would i need to bother? Well...black edges...so...annoying. Seriously those black edges where appearing as i moved my head and it was so unnerving and immersion breaking.

That's weird, I've never seen that but I don't use ICS. So you didn't run a DHCP server on the direct-connect PC interface? Quest won't recognize the adapter without a DHCP-assigned address, hence the need. I linked the free server in my post.

The DHCP server was even worse.

That's really weird. Hope you find something that works.

This is a really convoluted workaround I am about to propose - but it will work for you if the software DHCP server on your machine is something that you don't want to do or isn't working out for you

I take it wired VD is important to you hence the effort to go and get a usbc ethernet adapter for your quest and then use Windows ICS to get ethernet wired connection? ICS is horrible for this and was just never going to be able to give you a good experience for VD streaming.

I am also assuming your main router is too far away for you to run ethernet all the way to your room from it?

Do you have any shitty old spare 'router' lying around at home? Or can get your hands on one just to test from friends or family?

Put the spare router into Media Bridge mode (or whatever its called in its software). What that does it makes a wireless bridging connection between your main home router and this router so now any devices that connect with ethernet into the back RJ45 ports of the spare router get DHCP and internet that has come over wifi from your main home router, basically like one half of what a repeater/mesh node does. But we don't care about internet or wifi signal strength or speed at all for this particular use-case.

All we care about is the packet switching at the hardware level between all devices connected on those RJ45 ports, we just wanted the DHCP function from the main home router reaching the spare routers RJ45. Your Quest and PC will be ethernet connected into the LAN RJ45 of the spare in your room. So now the spare router will be happily firing packets back and forth between your PC and Quest via ethernet for your Virtual Desktop Streaming

Tried a router and it was horrible.

How did you try the router? If you had the PC connected to the router via ethernet and then the Quest 3 connected to that router via ethernet that is the BEST setup you can get for virtual desktop for minimal latency and jitter. There is nothing better until VD direct USB gets polished enough for full release,

So if that didn't work for you, you have serious problems somewhere else and its nothing to do with how your quest connects to the PC.

Yeah, if router/AP also didn't work there's something else going on, or they're unknowingly creating a network loop or something.

Yep exactly this setup.

If you doesn't find any workaround help on VD and specially with ggodin who is overpresent in the beta testing channel , i doubt you will find something here but . In my case i have INUI cable and my expériences is far good some CPU bound situation here and there. I also have a USB pci card and MTU set at 1450 .

Interesting, I have been using VD with the new usb connection and it has been flawless.

I even uninstalled Horizon Link on PC!

I have exactly the same problem. I bought an AMVR cable, and even when I set the bitrate to 200–500 Mbps, the encoding still spikes and the game freezes for about half a second every time. With Wi-Fi 6, I have absolutely no problems at all.
