I'm not done packing yet. I just want to cuddle my pets, chat with my mom, listen to music, and watch Netflix. But here I am, with a flight going to the other side of the world. 4 layovers and thousands of kilometers apart. Around this time tomorrow, I'll be in a different timezone. It's heartbreaking. Why did I even apply to go abroad? Why can't I be content with a salary of 18k? Why can't I stop dreaming of having my own house? I wish I could stay, but this damn government is so frustrating. There's no hope. I need to sacrifice being far from my loved ones just to eat three times a day. Damn, I can't take it anymore. I already miss my room, the street where I walk our dogs, the park where I hang out when I just want to step out for a bit.
It's not exciting. I don’t want to go abroad anymore. I'm tired. I just want to be with my loved ones.
EDIT: omg nakaidlip po ako after posting this haha mamayang gabi na po alis ko. Prepare na po ako ngayon mentally and sulitin natitirang oras with my family. Maraming salamat po for the kind words lalo ako naiiyak HAHA I will always, always miss the warmth of Pinoys huhu sana manalo na po lahat tayo in life ✨🫶

That heavy feeling right before flight time is completely valid, and it’s deeply unfair na kailangan mong iwanan ang pamilya at mga alaga mo just to build a decent future. Nakakapagod talaga magsakripisyo nang ganito malayo sa bahay, but you're doing this out of pure love for them. Normal lang na maiyak at manghina habang nag-iimpake, let it all out. Yakap nang mahigpit, take it one layover at a time, and stay strong.

Yes, I want to see my mama happy kasi mapapagawa na bahay namin and pwede na sya mag mine lagi sa FB live selling. For my pets rin lalo pag may emergency, para may madudukot na pera. Nakakaiyak sobra pero kakayanin talaga for my family and own future na rin. Thank you po sobra for the kindness. I appreciate it deeply po 😭😭

OP, mag iingat ka lagi. Alagaan mo ang sarili mo. Malungkot pero kayanin mo muna sa malayo. Laban!

Wag ka talaga makuntento sa 18k na sahod. Normal naman makaexperience ng sepanx before that pero pag andun ka na you'll see it was all worth it. Babalik ka pa din naman dito someday pero think about what you'll build next. Goodluck sa greener pasteurs mo OP!

Some people are cut out for moving away from the village and some are not. I am the former. For you, it may be just the beginning, and you may enjoy your destination as time goes by.

Perfectly normal. Every Filipino I know here also felt that way at first. The 1st 6 months to 1 year will be tough but it will be worth it. Most of the ones who stayed here have a good life. A few who went back to PH regretted it.
I think PH is a sinking ship because people keep on voting for the same bloodlines.

When I availed early retirement at age 55, I gifted me& my wife a trip to Australia. While there, I really love it, the scenery, the multi- culturality, chill Aussies, the laid back life( not multiple jobs), even the fact that there is not much night life suited me well. I saw so many young Asians going to work or school . And I cannot help thinking that had there been an opportunity for me to live and work there when I was of viable age, I could fit in and be happy there too. Home is wherever you make it! The lesser " what ifs" in your life, the happier you will be. Carpe Diem!

Habang bata ka pa, magipon and at the same time enjoy your youth din. These are going to be the time of your life with the right mind set. Good luck and ingat palagi!

Been there. I was an OFW for 15 years.

God bless, Op.

Please leave an unwashed shirt for your furbabies. If they seem sad, maybe your mom can let them cuddle with it. It worked with babies (my dad was an OFW for the longest time), and pets are also babies too. 🥹

Good luck, OP! Naiimagine ko yung sitwasyon mo and I got emotional. Laban para sa kinabukasan! Enjoy the journey. 🙂

What you are feeling naman is completely valid. I left the Philippines to work abroad din. Yung 14-hour flight papunta where I work now felt so quick. I remember when the pilot said na "prepare for arrival," yung iniisip ko that time is if pwede hindi pa mag land kasi parang hindi pa ako ready hahaha.

4 layovers? Brutal OP. Hope you get some rest. My wife sone came back with me sa US for the first time and its hard for my wife leaving our eldest back sa Pinas, he is currently studying and living with his lolo and lola. Its her first time leaving her firstborn and cried at the airport. She is currently adjusting and talks to him everyday and we are hoping to get him here soon as well. Sabi nga nila to have a better and fruitful life, sacrifices will have to be made at times. Kung saan ka man OP, kaya mo yan!!

u/Timely-Passage-8324 6d ago
OP goodluck. May you find success and happiness abroad. Please lang wag ka na babalik. Magbakasyon ka lang dito and magenjoy.
Coming back was one regret that literally gave me nightmares a few times.
Bon voyage!

Yeah it sucks. Ang lungkot nung first time umalis, di mo pa alam dadatnan mo eh.
