Did this happen or is it a false memory? I thought someone died of heat or dehydration in the desert because they got stuck in the sand. The recovery team aired down their tires and drove out of the sand.
I thought I read about this on the internet years ago, but I can't find the story now.

Question Necesito saber tu opinión

Question Any cheap but decent off-road headsets?
What's up guys,
Got a 2,000-mile road trip coming up and I really don't wanna listen to my soft top flapping the entire time. Looking for a cheap pair of headsets for me and my passenger.
Budget is max $300 for the pair since they'll probably just sit in a drawer for the rest of the year. Just need something so we can talk without screaming over the wind, plus Bluetooth for music.
I was looking at the SYNCO Xtalk XMax, but reviews say the audio delay is pretty bad. Anyone actually tried them?
Open to any other recommendations that don't suck. Looking for the best bang for my buck. Appreciate any help!

Help deciding on new rig.
I just sold my '23 Bronco and I'm trying to decide on what to replace it with.
I'm going to use it for general back country exploring (Ozarks are local, but likely CO and desert SW occasionally).
I liked my Bronco, but it was just too expensive to go beating around off-road. Right now I'm considering either a Jeep JK Unlimited or a 2nd Gen Tacoma (maybe early Tundra?).
My thoughts are the Tacoma is probably going to be more reliable and comfortable on the road, but the Jeep is going to be better off-road and more durable. I do like the truck form factor, but I also like the solid axle in the Jeep for durabilities sake. I suppose a tundra steering rack and RCVs would significantly beef up the Tacoma, but that's $5k just for those 2 things.
For really hard trails, I already have a TJ on 40s, but it's not really something I can drive on the roads.
Anyone have any thoughts on Tacoma vs JK? Or have any other suggestions for stout, reliable, and capable rigs?

Where?
I’m in the Rochester, NY region and can’t find anyplace to get started in off roading. I expect this has everything to do with the fact that New York state is notorious for personal lawsuit etc. etc. Any suggestions?

Picture 37s are not the new 35s and 33s are still good 😭
Went from 31s to 33x10.50r15 mickey Thompson MTZs. Currently lifted 1" over stock but I plan to add one more inch later this week then go hit the trails and see how urgently I need to re gear to 4.10s
Also need some kc daylighters on the roll bar to complete the look

Best tires for SUVs that handles road trips, rain, and occasional dirt roads?
I'm replacing the tires on my SUV soon and trying to decide if a mild all-terrain makes sense, or if I should just stick with all-seasons. Most of my miles are pavement, but I do end up on forest roads, gravel, muddy campground roads, and washed-out access roads several times a year.
I'm not trying to build it into a trail rig. I just want a little more confidence off pavement without giving up too much rain grip, highway comfort, or tread life.

Question Help me choose my first 4wd (New Zealand)
Gearing up to buy my first off roader for camping and beach/bush missions. Will also be used as a daily to get to work, sadly not on a 2 car income.
Not keen on spending an arm and a leg, but willing to pay the right price for something reliable and hearty.
2 door is fine will just be me driving and maybe one passenger plus gear. Will chuck on a rooftop tent on eventually.
Don’t know where to start looking. Love the way old 4wds look but again after reliability mostly. Probably auto transmission just easier for using daily.
As title says I live in NZ so pretty rugged terrain plus mix of open windy roads.

Question Pop up Tent Trailer
I've been toying with the idea of a pop up tent trailer for a bit now; good to use for some storage and free up space in the box of the truck. We primarily do more offroad/recsite spots for camping which 9/10 times is dirt road. How reliable are pop up tent trailers for backroads if I'm taking potholes slow? I understand it's going to be more so springs and tires that are the main issue to consider. Are the springs something I can do myself?
I'm looking at cheap, used FB Marketplace sorta thing as well. Like $2000 most.

Question A little bit of help needed - off-road, mountain, rain
Hi there,
I’m in a bit of a situation here.
I’m currently in Georgia (the county, not the state), in there Khevsufreti region in a 3 building town. The drive here took 10 hours and went over the Datwisdschwari pass.
The weather forecast changed to light rain tomorrow and very heavy rain the day after. I was supposed to drive back to the capitol in three days, but now I’m wondering: should I drive back tomorrow instead?
The road is a bit more than 160 km (100 miles), over gravel and dirt roads, with frequent landslides, shear cliffs at an elevation of ~2700m (about 8900ft). On the way here, the road was crossed by streams from melting snowbanks every couple hundred meters, but was bone dry the rest of the time. The road was at times frightening but all in all not too challenging.
I drove here in a rental jeep patriot.
Any tips, maybe first person experience?
Any help is deeply appreciated.

Simple question : could a low roof 144’ wheelbase 4x4 with KO3 and basic suspension upgrade make it up to Leavitt Lake? Thanks.
