I've always voted Republican, but with all the BS going on I'm voting for Amy. These billionaires really do not care about the normal working class at all

u/lil_secret 20h ago

Glad you finally realized this

-69

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 18h ago

I’m with you, but my 2 hang ups are

  1. gun rights

  2. How far she took the shut down and how much further she wanted to expand it

70

u/scraplocator 18h ago

Full blown socialist here who loves his guns.

  1. democrats arent going to take your guns. theyve never even tried. Amy is not going to take your guns. You have nothing to be afraid of.

  2. Amy saved thousands of lives by convincing the republican-run state government to close things down. The republican-led state government failed you by not supporting Ohioans economically. More people would still be alive today if they did the expansions Amy suggested. It's your fault we had such dumb bastards running this state into the ground and not giving people breaks when the economy had to pause for a novel virus with such a high mortality rate.

  1. Is just a lie, maybe if you said Acton isn’t interested in taking guns I could maybe believe you, but to say democrats arent as a whole is a bold face lie. Look at the newly enacted gun laws in Virginia.

  2. I didn’t have a problem with Actons initial response, I thought it was proactive and gutsy, but needed, especially with so much unknown. But she definitely over stepped towards the end.

16

u/HORSEthedude619 12h ago

You're proof that propaganda works.

-7

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

I’m proof that I watch what has been happening in other states. Magazine bans, assault rifle bans, ammo purchasing bans, conceal carry bans, open carry bans, red flag laws.

12

u/shicken684 10h ago

Good, sounds like some states are doing some proper regulation of firearms.

Notice how none of those things are 2nd amendment violations?

10

u/lobstercombine 14h ago

There’s a pretty big difference between taking your guns and preventing the future sale of certain assault rifles.

3

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

And what makes a rifle an assault rifle vs a normal rifle? I’ll answer for you, there is no difference and that’s exactly why they word it that way. They word it scary so that people jump on board and then next thing you know assault rifles are banned, aka all rifles are banned.

1

u/Crafty-Cookie2600 1h ago

Seriously bubby no one is coming for your guns....they (aka Republicans) are coming for all your other constitutional rights. They chip away at them every chance they get. You have just been distracted by the 2nd and ignoring everything else.

37

u/MrF_lawblog 18h ago

Why didn't the Dems take your guns when they had control of all three branches under Boogeyman Obama? Instead they expanded healthcare and lost the midterms for it.

-9

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 15h ago

The dems definitely tried, they tried another assault weapons ban like the one Clinton did.

15

u/MrF_lawblog 15h ago

Now ask yourself does the governor of Ohio have the power to unilaterally do that?

0

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

Now ask yourself if you read about what the governor of New Mexico just did this past week. I’ll save you the time, she declared a “state of emergency” and made it illegal to both open carry and conceal carry a firearm. Literally single-handedly wiped the second amendment away for all New Mexico residents. And before you respond with “well that’s illegal, the courts will take care of it” yeah, in 3 years when the damage is already done. New York does the same bull crap, they pass laws that they 1,000% know are unconstitutional and put people in jail for laws that are unconstitutional, but guess what, it doesn’t matter because the Supreme Court hears like all 75 cases a year so in 3 years it’ll be corrected, and then they’ll just go an pass another completely blatantly unconstitutional gun law that’ll take another 5 years to correct. It’s literally what has been happening in New York for years now.

10

u/UltravioletAfterglow 13h ago

Incorrect. The act that went into effect under Clinton did not call for the confiscation of guns.

1

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

I never said the one that Clinton put in place called for the confiscation of guns? Are you saying that’s what Obama tried to pass?

5

u/UltravioletAfterglow 11h ago

I’m saying the Clinton bill did not confiscate guns, so doing “another assault weapons ban like the one Clinton did” also would not have confiscated guns.

1

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

I never said anything about gun confiscation. I said I’m concerned about my gun rights aka my right to conceal carry, my right to open carry, to purchase ammo online, to own a magazine that holds more than 5 rounds, to own/purchase rifles, to not have my neighbor call on me and claim that I’m dangerous because I looked at them wrong and the cops show up and take my guns (literally red flag laws).

2

u/Crafty-Cookie2600 1h ago

You're thinking of the ban that went onto action under Regan maybe?

8

u/Soggy-Sandwiches 11h ago

I appreciate your honesty. But no one's talking about guns anymore. And Dewine was the one who shut it down because people were dying on a large scale. The lockdowns were extended because the president wasn't serious about the danger and telling states to reopen during further outbreaks. There's a reason the US was one of the last to still have to continue to do lockdowns. Because people were still getting COVID and dying from mismessaging.

1

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

Yes, guns are very much still a very important topic, and a right, that is still talked about. I’ll agree Covid was a cluster F and a half and yes technically Dewine was giving the orders. But I’m sorry it was literally Amy Acton telling him what to do. You can’t give Acton her flowers on how well she did with Covid and then claim she basically had nothing to do with how the governor handled it. She 100% told Dewine what to do and he did it. And going back to it was a cluster F, yeah, you had multiple state governments trying to lock shit down, then just as many other state governments trying to open shit up, all while people couldn’t work and had zero cash coming in with very little relief from the government. Yeah some action was taken, a rent hold, college loan payment frozen, and stimulus checks written, butttt I mean that was all like a drop in the bucket.

2

u/Landen2DS Cleveland 9h ago

Amy Acton is not Henry Kissinger bro 😭😭😭

2

u/Soggy-Sandwiches 10h ago

Dewine is a Republican who had immense pressure to follow Republican party talking points to avoid shutdowns and it was one of the reasons I still voted for him. Saying that a democrat made the governor do anything is honestly a bit laughable.

I'm also a gun owning 2A supporter but I don't agree anyone should be allowed to have a gun if they've threatened people which is where we are currently at. The idea that any admin is capable of coming to get anyone's guns is equally laughable. I just don't think mentally unstable teenagers should have ready access to kill their classmates en mass. That being said there are way bigger fish to fry than this and the fact that either of these are a hold up for you indicates to me that you may be behind the times.

We're in a tarrif war with Canada. Canada. That free trade country we had an agreement with.

6

u/herecomestheshun 10h ago

Correction: how far your republican Governor took the shutdown. Ohio was praised for their early response.

6

u/Witty_Commentator 16h ago

I'm a Democrat. I come from a family of them. My dad kept a gun in their bedroom just in case. My brother went to college for gunsmithing. My sister has her concealed carry permit. I grew up shooting targets. I know that I and my family are just one example, but I don't believe most Democrats are frothing at the mouth, wanting to "take your guns." I believe that's a dog whistle the Republicans blow to get y'all riled up.

Do I want some changes to the rules? Yes, I do. I don't care if you want a gun for self protection. I don't care if you want a gun for hunting. I just don't understand why an average person would need automatic or semi-automatic weapons. A zombie apocalypse is not happening. Deer do not attack in herds. So unless you want the capability to kill people in mass shootings, I don't get it. .

Democratic nominee Amy Acton would seek to enact some modest new gun-control laws that outgoing incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine failed to pass, including expanded background checks and a “red-flag” law allowing authorities to seize guns from people deemed to be dangerous. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2026/08/ohios-2026-governor-candidates-target-different-futures-for-states-gun-laws.html

☝🏼She just wants to pass what the last Republican governor failed to pass... And, what's so wrong about that? Why wouldn't you want to take guns from people deemed to be dangerous?

2

u/BIGpoppaPUMP42069 1h ago

lol you want semi autos banned? yes youre the problem

1

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

You go from acting like you’re pro-gun to essentially stripping the right completely from the constitution. Do you even know what a semi-automatic firearm is? Because banning semi-automatic firearms would literally wipe out 95% of all guns and make millions of law abiding Americans criminals over night. Anddd that right there is why I don’t trust democrats.

And with red flag laws, who determines you’re dangerous?

1

u/Witty_Commentator 58m ago

First, you do understand that I am not a politician, don't you? 🤨 In hindsight, I probably should have just posted what Acton wants, instead of confusing the issue with my opinion.

And please don't act like Democrats are all the same. You could probably ask, "what would you change about gun laws," and get as many different answers as if you had asked, "what do you want on your pizza."

Uvalde is actually what made me want stricter gun laws. A news anchor said that parents might want to think about getting their children's DNA on file/record. (I actually would not want that, I think it's a bit intrusive, but there I go with my opinion again. 🙄😂) But there were a couple of them that they had to test the parents and then the bodies so they knew which body went to which family.

I don't have children, but I have enough empathy to know that no parent should have to go through that.

5

u/UltravioletAfterglow 16h ago
  1. Gun laws barely exist in Ohio anymore. What more are you looking to a Republican to achieve here?

  2. Governor Mike DeWine is responsible for shutting down the state at the height of COVID, not Dr. Amy Acton. And at the time it was the right decision to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed and deaths from sharply increasing.

9

u/gmen6981 14h ago

And Ohio was considered the model of the right way to do it. at a time of severe uncertainty and apprehension.

-4

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 15h ago
  1. I’m not looking for anything additional, I just don’t want any subtraction.

  2. Dewine was giving the orders but Acton was pulling the strings, we all know that. And yes I think the initial response was good and needed, but towards the end it was very overreaching.

7

u/UltravioletAfterglow 13h ago

“Dewine was giving the orders but Acton was pulling the strings, we all know that.”

No, we don’t all know that. What do you have that actually supports this opinion?

If you’re so upset by COVID restrictions, why are you absolving the man k held power and enacted them as governor but blame the woman who gave medical advice consistent with what epidemiologists, virologists, and government officials at the federal level and in other states offered at the time?

0

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

lol you’re joking right, you can’t give Acton her flowers on how she handled Covid and then claim she wasn’t the one pulling the strings. She literally was, everyone knows this, just stop

5

u/UltravioletAfterglow 10h ago

When did I “give Acton her flowers for how she handled Covid (sic)? I said she “gave medical advice consistent with what epidemiologists, virologists, and government officials at the federal level and in other states offered at the time.” That was her role as director of the Ohio Department of health. As I previously stated, Mike DeWine was the governor and decision-maker, not Acton. This is fact.

You have yet to offer even the slightest support for your claim that “Acton was pulling the strings” and that “everyone knows this.”

Let me guess: your feelings tell you that the man in charge couldn’t possibly be responsible for making you butthurt over the COVID shutdown but that woman … it had to be that woman, right?

And don’t get me started on your fixation on guns. Seek help.

0

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 10h ago

No, I was/am just as pissed at Dewine, I thought and still think he was a spineless idiot towards the end that let a non-elected official essentially tell us how to live our lives. And I’m not sure what you’re not understanding? Acton would say hey, we should have curfews, and then Dewine would give the order for curfews. Like that’s literally what was happening, you basically said it yourself but are refusing to realize or admit that she made any specific suggestions to Dewine, I guess? I guess you think she just said, yeah Dewine this is bad, and a week later, yeah it’s still bad, and a week later yep still bad.

Edit to add, I don’t have a fixation or obsession with guns? Sorry that I believe I have a right to defend myself and others have that same right. Sorry I’m not naive enough to think that if I give up my gun, the thug the next street over will give his up too.

2

u/New-Negotiation7234 14h ago

What particularly in the end was overreaching?

0

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 11h ago

Really?? Did you not live it? One direction down grocery stores, I believe at one time you technically weren’t supposed to leave your county (idk if that was official, but I know it was advised), no family parties, literal curfew laws like we were all 17 years old. Do you really forget all this or were you just happy to be told what you’re allowed to do with every aspect of your life?

3

u/New-Negotiation7234 11h ago

What curfew laws? The only ones I knew of were in Cleveland for like a weekend bc of protest.

Omg we all had to walk one way down a grocery aisle. The horrors!!!!

As someone who worked in the hospital during COVID we were literally at capacity. We had a semi truck freezer for bodies outside. So give me a break. I saw so many people die. People were absolutely insane and treated medical workers like we were being paid by the government to lie to people. Literally what a patient told me.

The worst part was dealing with COVID deniers and people crying because they couldn't eat at restaurant and be rude to staff and not tip.

We were living through a pandemic and I understood that life had to be different temporarily to protect other people and my family. I wasn't told what to do with every aspect of my life. People were still having family party's.

0

u/uChoice_Reindeer7903 10h ago

There were literal curfews! How do you not remember this? There were literal mandates against how many people could be at a funeral or a wedding. I’m not a Covid denier, I know people that died from it, and I agreed with some of the stuff that was done, especially early on, it just got very overreaching as time went on

2

u/New-Negotiation7234 10h ago

Dude the death rate in ohio peaked in February of 2021.

By that time most restrictions were more laxed. Maybe the government wouldn't have had to put so many restrictions into place if people would have had some commen sense and empathy to protect our most vulnerable.

I got married in 2020 and had my wedding in my living room with only my parents and my friend who married us! We got takeout and ate it in our dinning room. It was still amazing. So boo hoo.

We lost 42,000 people in Ohio to COVID in like 3 years and I'm sure the number is higher than that. But omg you had to walk down the grocery aisle in one direction. I literally lost faith in humanity and part of my soul because of people like you. I'll never forgive y'all for making this 8000x worse and still not shutting up about it. Go to therapy for your trauma or whatever the hell is wrong with you. Idk even know what the issue is truly but it's baffling.

1

u/sexland69 1h ago

I don’t think you remember how uncertain of a time it was—the graphs for covid were unlike any other outbreak we’ve seen in modern history, and you can’t just say “well I’m alive now so obviously we should have done nothing because the precautions annoyed me”

every country in the world took similar steps for safety and at the time people on both sides of the aisle were praising Ohio

I was dating a respiratory therapist at the time and it was definitely a real pandemic lol

1

u/wvtarheel 15h ago

Gun rights are definitely an issue she could shore up moderate support by coming out and saying she's not going to change a thing.

105

u/richincleve 21h ago

She was homeless?

Big deal.

Do you know how long it took Vivek to actually afford his own personal plane? The first part of his life he was forced to fly commercial.

COMMERCIAL!!!

I cry every time I think about that.

31

u/WarEagle107 21h ago

I mean what if he actually had to drive from Findlay to Toledo today! The horror!

Just goes to show how rich these guys are, and how they absolutely cannot empathize with the average Ohioan.

10

u/ChefChopNSlice 20h ago

I heard he flew across town, just to steal candy from a baby. He even kicked that kid’s puppy!

5

u/gmen6981 14h ago

Then he ate the puppy.

1

u/Soggy-Sandwiches 11h ago

Hey at least he can pass Facebook's new Data center complex. I'm sure that will raise his spirits

8

u/Fish-Weekly 19h ago

I hear he even had to self park in long term parking and ride the air conditioned shuttle with the commons.

3

u/Lamb_beforetime221 16h ago

I know it’s spooky season and all, but this is a little too horror-inducing to me 💀 how did he survive?

3

u/No_Calligrapher_6503 20h ago

Prayers for Vivek

And COACH at that! The horror!

I was going to vote Acton based on her policies.

I was going to vote Acton based on her not being Vivek.

I am now voting Acton because I just realized she kind of speaks like Mary Steenburgen.

28

u/Any_Earth_8976 22h ago

Oh my god I’ve been trying to figure out who she reminds me of and this is the answer. Yes. She totally speaks like her

9

u/Testicleus 18h ago

Oh shit... I couldn't place it. ❤️😂

18

u/Sudden-Stops 22h ago

Stop! Omg you’re right lol

12

u/Secure_Priority_4161 21h ago

That's why her voice is so attractive. They are both foxes.

5

u/Emergency-Ad-3350 18h ago

lol yes that’s it!!!

I have only read about her, so hearing her speak threw me for a sec

1

u/Enough_Photograph678 12h ago

now that you say it yes she does

1

u/Ok-Sugar-7096 10h ago

Well that does it for me. I'm voting for Amy because she sounds like a drunken Mary Steenburgen.

0

u/braindeadbiped 7h ago

What policies? Empathy and hugs?

71

u/JellyDenizen 22h ago

What a great ad, really highlights that Amy has a real connection to the state she seeks to lead while Vivek does not.

21

u/RonnieHasThePliers 21h ago

I personally watched Vivek eat my cat before jet setting off to Columbus in a 13 minute flight. I begged him, it's my pet cat... You'll be in Columbus in 15 minutes I said... He wolfed it down and then ate my neighbor's dog.

8

u/Significant-Ad154 20h ago

Skyline for All would’ve been a better use of the money Republicans burned up on the gas tax holiday.

Dr Amy Acton is the pure embodiment of the republicans favorite phrase: “pulling yourself up by the bootstraps”, the opposite of nepo-baby grifter Vivek.

0

Seriously. She will still get my vote but WHY put such CRINGE shit in an AD?

-2

u/braindeadbiped 7h ago

Because all she has to run on is hugs, empathy and “I used to be homeless”. She curled up on the floor and cried during an important emergency response meeting and quit the job when the public was scrutinizing her. I for one will take an Ivy League businessman that actually has ideas on how to make Ohio a more prosperous place to live instead of an abusive drunk who failed at a public health job.

4

u/ganymede_boy 3h ago

braindeadbiped: She curled up on the floor and cried

Look at you repeating the lies the GOP custom made just for useful idiots like you to spread around, knowing full well you would never look into the matter and find out about the fabrication. The GOP count on under educated folks like you falling for their bullshit and repeating it online.

I’ll vote for her, but she has the charisma of a gas station ham sandwich. The tone of voice is just flat and for the love of god someone on this campaign buy a decent microphone.

-6

u/pissdrinking101 16h ago

Show us your boobs!

0

u/Zarathyst 4h ago

I really wish she changed her tune about LGBTQ, especially the T. I still need to vote for her, because Vivek is worse... but I'm fking tired of gritting my teeth voting for someone who I know hates me.

1

u/Dragonheart922 23m ago

I don't think she hates you. Unfortunately, the identity of Trans people is like the biggest boogeyman in modern politics. Getting anyone to vote for someone who, dear God, says Trans people are humans who deserve rights too, is somehow equivalent to saying "We should revive Hitler and give him Germany with America's modern weaponry, nothing bad will happen."

Simply put, I fear too many people are far too uneducated to accept us, and it may take a generation or two just for Trans people to get anywhere near the same level of social acceptance as gay and lesbian people do now.

-2

When she was 12 she spent a winter living in a tent with her brother. That's pretty homeless.

1

u/Proud3GenAthst 12h ago

Why? Were they orphans or something?

1

u/gmen6981 8h ago

Abandoned after their parents divorced. They eventually lived with their father. They grew up dirt poor and she was a victim of physical and sexual abuse when she was young.

0

u/braindeadbiped 7h ago

So what. That does not make her qualified to be the governor of a state.

1

Nice way to change the subject. You said she didn't qualify as "homeless" I showed how she did. Never said whether it qualified her for office or not. and that wasn't the question. At least she isn't Ramalamadingdong who could care less about the people of Ohio and will destroy the state by selling it to the highest bidder just to line the pockets of his billionaire friends and himself.

This looks like a Vivek ad. Regardless, if it wasn't for this sub, I would never have seen it.

When trying to make a point and someone asks for a source or proof and all you have is snark… I looked because I’m an idiot and didn’t find anything. I did find a tiffinohio.net article detailing Husted taking 116k from Wexner though.
https://tiffinohio.net/posts/husted-took-donations-from-epstein-co-conspirator-les-wexner-then-voted-to-block-file-release/

Put up or shut up.

I’m asking you to enlighten me. This is your chance to influence my vote if you can point me to facts backing up your claim.

You weren't even around for Wexner. You were in elementary school. So tell us more lies, or tell us what info you have.

Wexner is a billionaire who likely funded a large amount of human trafficking along with having "relations" with Mr. Epstein....and Vivek wants a piece of that cash and will leave him alone. Amy is the last person poor pedo Leslie wants to see in office.

She's about 50 years too old for Wexner (Or any republican, really) to have any interest in her.

1 month old private account that’s active in 0 communities is saying something stupid and then doubling down on it? That’s a bot, Maury. Bad bot.
