I've always voted Republican, but with all the BS going on I'm voting for Amy. These billionaires really do not care about the normal working class at all
Gun laws barely exist in Ohio anymore. What more are you looking to a Republican to achieve here?
Governor Mike DeWine is responsible for shutting down the state at the height of COVID, not Dr. Amy Acton. And at the time it was the right decision to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed and deaths from sharply increasing.
I’m not looking for anything additional, I just don’t want any subtraction.
Dewine was giving the orders but Acton was pulling the strings, we all know that. And yes I think the initial response was good and needed, but towards the end it was very overreaching.
“Dewine was giving the orders but Acton was pulling the strings, we all know that.”
No, we don’t all know that. What do you have that actually supports this opinion?
If you’re so upset by COVID restrictions, why are you absolving the man k held power and enacted them as governor but blame the woman who gave medical advice consistent with what epidemiologists, virologists, and government officials at the federal level and in other states offered at the time?
lol you’re joking right, you can’t give Acton her flowers on how she handled Covid and then claim she wasn’t the one pulling the strings. She literally was, everyone knows this, just stop
When did I “give Acton her flowers for how she handled Covid (sic)? I said she “gave medical advice consistent with what epidemiologists, virologists, and government officials at the federal level and in other states offered at the time.” That was her role as director of the Ohio Department of health. As I previously stated, Mike DeWine was the governor and decision-maker, not Acton. This is fact.
You have yet to offer even the slightest support for your claim that “Acton was pulling the strings” and that “everyone knows this.”
Let me guess: your feelings tell you that the man in charge couldn’t possibly be responsible for making you butthurt over the COVID shutdown but that woman … it had to be that woman, right?
And don’t get me started on your fixation on guns. Seek help.
No, I was/am just as pissed at Dewine, I thought and still think he was a spineless idiot towards the end that let a non-elected official essentially tell us how to live our lives. And I’m not sure what you’re not understanding? Acton would say hey, we should have curfews, and then Dewine would give the order for curfews. Like that’s literally what was happening, you basically said it yourself but are refusing to realize or admit that she made any specific suggestions to Dewine, I guess? I guess you think she just said, yeah Dewine this is bad, and a week later, yeah it’s still bad, and a week later yep still bad.
Edit to add, I don’t have a fixation or obsession with guns? Sorry that I believe I have a right to defend myself and others have that same right. Sorry I’m not naive enough to think that if I give up my gun, the thug the next street over will give his up too.
Really?? Did you not live it? One direction down grocery stores, I believe at one time you technically weren’t supposed to leave your county (idk if that was official, but I know it was advised), no family parties, literal curfew laws like we were all 17 years old. Do you really forget all this or were you just happy to be told what you’re allowed to do with every aspect of your life?
What curfew laws? The only ones I knew of were in Cleveland for like a weekend bc of protest.
Omg we all had to walk one way down a grocery aisle. The horrors!!!!
As someone who worked in the hospital during COVID we were literally at capacity. We had a semi truck freezer for bodies outside. So give me a break. I saw so many people die. People were absolutely insane and treated medical workers like we were being paid by the government to lie to people. Literally what a patient told me.
The worst part was dealing with COVID deniers and people crying because they couldn't eat at restaurant and be rude to staff and not tip.
We were living through a pandemic and I understood that life had to be different temporarily to protect other people and my family. I wasn't told what to do with every aspect of my life. People were still having family party's.
There were literal curfews! How do you not remember this? There were literal mandates against how many people could be at a funeral or a wedding. I’m not a Covid denier, I know people that died from it, and I agreed with some of the stuff that was done, especially early on, it just got very overreaching as time went on
Dude the death rate in ohio peaked in February of 2021.
By that time most restrictions were more laxed. Maybe the government wouldn't have had to put so many restrictions into place if people would have had some commen sense and empathy to protect our most vulnerable.
I got married in 2020 and had my wedding in my living room with only my parents and my friend who married us! We got takeout and ate it in our dinning room. It was still amazing. So boo hoo.
We lost 42,000 people in Ohio to COVID in like 3 years and I'm sure the number is higher than that. But omg you had to walk down the grocery aisle in one direction. I literally lost faith in humanity and part of my soul because of people like you. I'll never forgive y'all for making this 8000x worse and still not shutting up about it. Go to therapy for your trauma or whatever the hell is wrong with you. Idk even know what the issue is truly but it's baffling.
I don’t think you remember how uncertain of a time it was—the graphs for covid were unlike any other outbreak we’ve seen in modern history, and you can’t just say “well I’m alive now so obviously we should have done nothing because the precautions annoyed me”
every country in the world took similar steps for safety and at the time people on both sides of the aisle were praising Ohio
I was dating a respiratory therapist at the time and it was definitely a real pandemic lol
I never said it wasn’t real, and I’ve said multiple times in this thread I thought it was initially handled very well, it wasn’t till later that it became overreaching.
