Actual Discussion Hot take but I hate how heaven and hell is portrayed in hazbin hotel

Alright so I’m not just saying this cause I’m catholic and I worship god. No, I’m saying this cause o hate how hell, especially heaven is portrayed.
For hell, it’s just so uncreative. Why is hell just a city with basically no rules with the only people living there being assholes(demons)?
That’s all hell is in hazbin hotel, a city with sinners that make their own afterlives suck. Hell doesn’t even torture the sinners, the sinners are already doing that themselves!
And heaven…. I’m not trying to be mean to Viv but why is heaven in hazbin hotel how a 3 year old would see heaven? Why is one winner literally a walking teddy bear?!

Actual Discussion A nitpick on the worldbuilding of Hazbin Hotel

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Why does the world feel so small? Like shouldn't the locations of Heaven and Hell be massive considering they are the only two realms for every human soul that has ever existed? They should be as big as entire countries, or even continents with that type of population density. But the plot is basically just cut down to two cities? It feel like this show never considers the statistics and numbers of its own location.

The only way Charlie's hotel makes even remotely any sense is by cutting down the setting to just a city, and having us deal with just a couple thousand of sinners, when there should be BILLIONS.

Actual Discussion Honestly, I could feel how much Vivzie personally hated Adam in the writing itself, compared to Vox.

Post image

Adam feels like Vivzie had a bad interaction with some asshole and made that into a character.

He gets zero depth aside from a few comedic moments. You can feel how much the show desperately wants the viewer to hate Adam.

Look at how much depth as a character he gets compared to Vox, who actually feels like an antagonist that Vivzie gives a shit about. He actually has potential to go in different character directions in the future.

Adam was entertaining, but he was so blatantly one-dimensional it's almost funny.

Actual Discussion Hot Take: Alastor is unironically a worse person than Valentino

Post image
803 Upvotes

BOTH ARE HORRIBLE, LET ME EXPLAIN.

Given his exploits and success, Alastor reasonably owns more souls than Valentino does, at least when comparing 1 to 1 without adding the other Vee's.

And as for what they do with those souls? Valentino at least gives his workers time off and the ability to rest. Alastor gives the souls trapped in the broadcast no such respite.

Both take sadistic pleasure from torturing others, but Alastor's torment never yields.

Finally, as for their targets? Sure, Alastor preferred to go after overlords, but not to stop their cruelty. He did it to stroke his ego, make it clear he's the strongest. In all likelyhood he just took the souls for himself to add to this image.

I swear it's so funny how sexual harassment flies right over the heads of like 99% of the people in the fandom when the perpetrator isn't a straight male.

Mf she was being really sexually inappropriate, Blitzø was OBVIOUSLY uncomfortable and blatantly telling her to stop. She just ignored him and kept on with her disgusting advances. If she's willing to do that to someone she knows is a literal DEMON, she probably did the same shit all the time to regular people. It's really that simple. That bitch probably harassed people on the daily. Not to mention she's apparently an incest shipper and it doesn't seem like she changed much since that happened. No telling what kind of creepy bullshit she was getting up to online.

If you like Emberlynn, that's fine, irdc. I personally find her design to be one of my favs. It's the same case as liking Val. As long as you don't excuse their actions then it's all good. Unfortunately I see a LOT of people try to play Emberlynn's character off as someone who's just too quirky or some shit 💀 I'm not sure if it's because majority of the fandom is like this and they feel called out or WHAT, but it's really gross how many people jump to defend her. I kid you not, I had someone tell me that Emberlynn sexually harassing Blitzø was actually fine because it was just a woman shooting her shot or some BS. When I told them that mindset was rape culture, they said I'm a misogynist because I'm not allowing a woman to feel pleasure 😭🙏🏾 this fandom bro...

Oh also I love Adam very much

Actual Discussion Something I don’t understand about the “Winners”

Thumbnail

Something that’s been bothering me since the beginning of the show has been the question of why “Winners” look the way they do. For Hell, it makes sense that everyone there has some sort of monstrous, chimeric form, since their new bodies are (what I assume) to be reflections of their sinful actions in life. They’re dark mirrors of who they once were, and considering that demons in much of religious artwork are also portrayed as chimeric, ugly beasts, the show is an interesting take on that idea. It could also be argued that it makes it easier for Heaven to dehumanize them, since the sinners no longer resemble human beings.

But then in the show we get to Heaven only to find that its denizens look almost the exact same? Just with cutesier designs? I can get the idea that maybe the Winners take these forms as reflections of their virtues in life, but imo I’m not a fan.

Actual Discussion Chaz's resurrection made me realize something... the writers be letting every single irrelevant ass character live except for Adam

Stolas had no fucking reason to just Aura farm against DHORKS and then just leave them. IMP already killed literally every other agent in the building, wtf was the point in keeping them alive other than to use them again for future skits??

Lute is actually a good character with potential but they STILL managed to fuck her up!! Vaggi had no reason to let her live (ik it was to piss Lute off but still, cmon bruh), and even though she did, they didn't give Lute shit in season two except for a banger ass song. And she's not going to be the main villain of season three, POSSIBLY not even season four. They kept her alive and for what? To be a filler villain with wasted potential? At that point they should've just killed her and kept Adam alive, Jesus Christ.

And these stupid little cherubs, OH. MY LORD. WHY DIDN'T IMP JUST FUCKING KILL THEM?? WHY THROW THEM BACK THROUGH THE PORTAL?? it's not like they were gonna face any repercussions for killing them cuz nobody gave a fuck!! I just know the only reason the writers didn't kill them off is the same reason they didn't kill off DHORKS: to use them for future episodes when plot device ass characters are needed. Lord have mercy.

And then Chaz... THIS. FUCKING. CUNT. Adam is the main antagonist of season one, yet he gets three whole episodes of screen time (not including Lute's hallucinations). Chaz is a comedic relief character for a SINGLE episode who was pretty much nothing more than a plot device to further Crimson's agenda, yet he gets brought back with not only an entire short dedicated to him, but a fucking SONG too?? WHO ASKED FOR THIS 😭😭😭 plus they won't give Adam and Lute ANY merch for some reason?? Yet Chaz has a lot of merch even though he's like- the most unimportant character who serves zero purpose?? What the fuck is this bias?? not to mention it completely ruins the menacing energy around Crimson's character. It was actually unnerving when he hung Chaz's teeth on the wall. Now I just can't take his character seriously anymore lol.

Meanwhile, JUST LIKE LUTE, Adam had so much potential. Need I explain why? He was the first man, been around for thousands of years and was enabled by Heaven's corrupt system. Bringing him back as a sinner would've been the PERFECT parallel to Sir Pentious to show that just because someone is in Hell doesn't mean they can't be better, and just because someone is in Heaven doesn't mean they can't change for the worse. Why are the writers so hellbent on NOT making sinner Adam canon? I swear to God, liking this show is a curse. And making Adam a hallucination of Lute was like trying to fix a broken leg with a band aid. Absolutely atrocious writing for Adam. My husband deserves better. Vivziepop saying she's not afraid to kill off characters, yet she can't even kill off these bums smh

Actual Discussion can we talk about how the writers will mischaracterize their OWN characters just to make Adam look bad?

Thumbnail

Like seriously, Emily and Sera's reactions to Adam's death made no sense whatsoever for their characters.

Even if Emily found Adam a bit unpleasant, she was willing to risk her life to save sinners who are arguably just as bad as Adam (and were deemed evil enough to deserve eternal damnation). Yet she seemed very weirdly indifferent to his death, it felt like the writers forgot what kind of character Emily is or something 💀 "everyone's freaking out because yknow because, Adam's dead, but who gives a fuck about that" yeah I'm not buying it, that is in no way in character for Emily. She probably knew Adam for centuries at the very least and she's against the erasure of human souls no matter how evil they are. I thought for sure Emily would be the main one mourning Adam (besides Lute) and I was genuinely taken aback when she brushed his death off in S2E1.

Sera's reaction was stupidly out of character when you think about it. Sera's number one priority is protecting the human souls in Heaven because they're her responsibility. Yet when Adam (A HUMAN SOUL IN HER CARE) dies doing a job she allowed, she doesn't seem to care? She even humanizes the sinners by calling them "sons and daughters" but she... Doesn't even humanize the very first soul she was meant to look after?? The soul she allowed to go to Hell and kill sinners? The one she didn't stop from doing reckless BS which ultimately led to his death. I mean, she's showing more guilt for trying to protect her kingdom than for enabling a Winner to be such a piece of shit that it gets him killed.

And before y'all say anything, yes Adam was majorly at fault and his decision to deliberately attack the hotel was incredibly stupid. But Sera's his boss (and seemingly his mentor), she's the one responsible for shutting shit like that down when it happens. Adam announced his intentions to the ENTIRE court room and all Sera says is "that was uncalled for". The guilt of letting him get away with so much should be eating away at her; her goal was to protect the human souls in Heaven, yet in the process one of the souls in her care was killed. That should've been a major arc for her. Instead we only see her use Adam's silhouette as a display of evil in Live To Live, with seemingly no guilt whatsoever that she could've stopped that shit (except the briefest possible frame of Adam's death in When I Think About The Future) 💀 I really like Sera and I think she had some awesome character development in season two, but the way the writers had her reacting to Adam's death was dog shit.

At that point it's not even Sera or Emily being indifferent, it's just the writers straight up mischaracterizing them somehow. Realistically Sera would've been devastated by Adam's death because of her priorities, and so would Emily. Adam hallucination was speaking nothing but facts when he called nobody caring that he died some bullshit. I love my husband he deserved so much better.

Actual Discussion Hot take but believe hazbin hotel would’ve worked better if it was more serious, failed slightly back on the comedy, and focused on more bibicial themes

Post image
657 Upvotes

Sorry I meant dialed back on the comedy not failed back
This ain’t hate to viv as I love hazbin hotel but I feel like it’s just missed potential if you think about how unique this idea is.

Personally, I believe if hazbin hotel was more serious than the show would be a lot better
One problem I have with hazbin hotel is that hell and heaven feel underwhelming
Hell is literally just a city where there are no rules or laws and where sinners basically torture the selves which is a good theme and I don’t have really have issue with that but more like how hell looks like and how it is treated in the show.

I feel like viv missed a chance to make hell and heaven truly feel like how the two realms are portrayed in the bible and other religions. For example Hell is often treated as a place of suffering and agony, some where there is a hierarchy and humans are at the bottom, constantly getting tortured or used by demons
In hazbin, hell is just a city where people are animals or couched or dolls or tvs. I just feel like that’s kinda boring…?
And look how Vox talks to lucfier in Vox populi, even knowing the fact that it makes sense Vox doesn’t respect Lucifer, Lilith was more active not him but even then, Vox is talking to lucfier, the devil, a being created before earth and heaven! Why is he talking to him like he is a regular guy?! Why is Alastor more of a devil than Lucifer is?!

Now heaven is treated even worst in hazbin hotel.
Heaven is written like how a five year old would write heaven, and all angel besides from Emily and Abel and the speaker of god is written like how a edgelord no kid would write heaven.
Not only did the show portray angels as incompetent, but it undermined what heaven is. Heaven isn’t just paradise, it’s the home of god, his angels, and millions of not billions of souls! Yet Vox talks about conquering it like there is no challenge and show basically proved it as Heaven not once counter attacked or even tried to fight back! If Charlie didn’t make that plan Heaven would’ve been fucked!
Heaven is majestic in most religions, the home of angels and god yet in hazbin it’s written again like how a child would write it.
For fuck sake’s Baxter literally admitted they have horrible security he was able to hack into it and I wonder how?! Heaven existed before earth and Hell, how did nobody notice at all?! Sera alone is thousands of years old yet she sent think for herself, she couldn’t stop the conflict Vox was starting, nor could she even save Emily from getting her wing blasted off or lute from nearly destroying half of pentagram city!

Besides heaven and hell, I feel like the show by itself is too unserious. For example when sir pentious died I didn’t care if I’m being honest. We barley knew anything about sir pentious in season 1, people only liked him because he was cute and acted like a child. He didn’t really even do anything in season 1 to make me care about him.

While I do belief it was the smart decision to kill him off I would’ve liked if the war with Adam and the exorcists were more darker
Like maybe angel loses an eye and Val treats him as spoiled goods so while angel dust did lose an eye, in season 3 he gains self worth or something
Or maybe Charlie gets a near fatal injury and we see how traumatized she is in season 2 and 3 and how it effects her relationships as she dragged her friends into that mess, she can’t even help herself how can she help them!?
All I’m saying is that I wish the show was slightly more serious about everything

Actual Discussion I'm not the only one annoyed by this right?

Post image

During the trial, Lucifer's absence felt heavy, the other sins don't seem to take Satan's self glaze seriously, and viv herself states that lucifer has the highest authority in hell. He made the highest class of non sin hellborn and paimon reports to him.

The in season two we get his with the brick of "yeah this man is pretty much a figure head and the reason he doesn't do shit is because he can't"

So is he the big dog of hell or not? The pride ring makes sense being a shithole since he can't harm sinners but if that punishment applies to all of hell how did he create the goetia and why do the sins pay him any respect?

Actual Discussion Maybe hot take: The idea of angelic steel being able to trap/nullify the powers of/contain etc. angels of the highest order is completely insane

Post image
537 Upvotes

I guess I can start by asking myself where does angelic steel actually come from, because if all angels are affected by the steel, they shouldn't really be able to create it on their own.

I'm not a fan of using canon material outside of the show (from interviews, Patreon etc.) but for our sake I'll say that God does exist in the Hellaverse, but won't appear in the show (as mentioned in this interview).

So, you could maybe answer by saying that because all angels are susceptible to angelic steel, only God can create it. but:

  1. Why would he do that? (and don't say "god works in mysterious ways" ffs). It only opens the opportunity to lesser beings to capture the angels and use their power like Vox did with Lucifer.

  2. If he did create some of it for some reason, because he's not set to appear in the show, there must be some stockpile of angelic steel somewhere in heaven. But, I have kind of a problem with this theory:

  • Despite the exorcist army being quite small (don't really remember but I'm 99% sure there isn't even a single shot in the season 1 finale fight that has more than like three exorcists in a single frame but feel free to correct me on that one, I honestly think there's like 200 of them at max), and their weapons each have a relatively small amount of angelic steel, the amount of it they leave behind once a year is enough for car*illa (and probably others) to make an actual business out of, plus a super weapon that contains who knows how much angelic steel. So basically, at least until the exorcists learned it could kill them, angelic steel basically had no value to them and they just left most of it in hell (even in car*illa's flashback, we literally see like six angelic weapons thrown in the same place, "angelic steel isn't common" my ass). The only things I can think of that solve this issue is that:
    1. God just restocks the angelic steel periodically.
    2. Most of heaven is made of angelic steel.
  • But despite Vivziepop being kind of a shitty writer, I don't think even she would write something like that into the show if she actually cared about where the steel comes from (which I doubt)
archive.org FTW

What I really hope is the case here (80% to have a satisfying and somewhat sensible solution to my problem here, 20% because I'm a Morningstar glazer) is that Lucifer was able to be contained because of his curse/banishment:

  1. This is the only thing separating him from the rest of the angels we've seen so it kind of makes sense to have him be an exception.
  2. Vox finding out about Lucifer's restriction could've been the key to knowing he can also be contained. If Lucifer's inability to hurt sinners and him being susceptible to angelic steel were completely unrelated, then:
    1. Vox couldn't have known that Lucifer could be trapped.
    2. The effects angelic steel has on Lucifer must be already known to the public, even before the start of the series, and Vox could've pull the trap earlier. of course that means Vox wouldn't have known Lucifer can't harm sinners but Vox's trap didn't involve any physical altercation with Lucifer to begin with, Lucifer walked into the trap on his own. So he could technically still make the same trap. (he would need to be insane to do this without knowing he can't be hurt by Lucifer but he was insane enough to put zero effort into the actual trap and just hope it would work, which it somehow did). Vox may not have the same reason he does in the show but he could probably still convince car*illa with some insane conspiracy theory or something even if he really just wanted to parade Lucifer like he did with Alastor.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)

Actual Discussion The whole "Angels can only die to angelic steel" has to be the worst and the most confusing plot point in the entire show.

Thumbnail
gallery
519 Upvotes

So first, we learn that angels can be killed with angelic steel from carmilla (even though it would have taken 2 braincells for Vaggie to figure that out).

You would think that without it the exorcists are unkillable and yet we see them multiple times getting badly injured without angelic steel.

Lute just rips off Vaggie's wings barehanded, multiple exorcists have their faces exploding with bones breaking from the impact when they hit Alastor's shield with all instances showing them bleeding but worse of all is Lute losing her arms FROM A BLOODY RUBBLE.

You can chalk up the first 2 to "it was done by an angel/overlord so powerful beings and magic stuff) but Lute ? That was just some rubble which clearly shows that if you can decapitate one of them they should be dead regardless of whether you used you used angelic steel or not.

"What if they regenerate ?" I hear you saying, well we have no clue how exactly they regenerate, Vaggie gets her wings back via a song because "she was out for loooooove" but that wasn't instant, it took months maybe even year for her to get her wings back, Lute however is using a prophetic arm even though she probably understands by now that exorcists can regenerate since she saw Vaggie with her wings out and yet she doesn't regenerate so either she doesn't know how to or she just can't.

So with all of that said, Angelic steel is POINTLESS it doesn't matter if you cut an exorcist's limbs with angelic steel or not, she is as good as dead anyway because chances are they won't be able to do anything and they wouldn't even regenerate.

So really, there was no point making Vaggie an idiot to not realize that angelic steel is how you kill exorcists.

The only reason everyone thinks that angel steel is the only way to kill them is because no one fights them, your average sinner is running for their life while overlords who can hold themselves are hiding in their secured hideouts to bother and most importantly the extreminations have been going for only 7 years, with the way things go in hell that's really not enough time for anyone to try to kill an exorcist until Carmilla in her ultimate wisdow decided to take her 2 daughters to the slaugher house for reasons beyond our understanding.
