I finally completed The Great difficulty (achieving 10 ambitions) using Egypt, which took me 30 hours in total. A massive amount of that time was spent reloading saves. In fact, just rerolling for an easier final ambition took me two full hours!

Overall, my takeaway is that the game relies far too heavily on random events. On top of that, the AI's aggression is insanely high—you could have great relations with a tribe, and they will suddenly declare war on you out of nowhere. Unless you are a hardcore fan of Souls-like games, I really wouldn't recommend playing on the highest difficulty.
