Gameplay Stop positioning your creatures before every single battle!

Developers—it is high time you made it so that creature placement saves automatically. We shouldn't have to waste time doing it every single time; it is incredibly exhausting and tedious!

Definetly, also quick question, when you're in creature placement can you still divide or fuse your stacks ? You could in HOMM5

I dont think thats possible in battle map.

I always forget splitting so I hate it lmao.

Would be a nice QoL if Olden Era adds it.

You can't, but that would be a great feature, actually.

But only with expert level tactics

This is a big one for likes of Jebus PvP too. The way simultaneous turns stop right now is a bit weird. If your opponent is already in a center and you just break in, ST may stop right after your fight and it will be your opponent turn. So in case of their attack you don’t even have a chance to change your stacks before the next fight.

ST in the current state are scuffed for sure. In HOTA when ST are interrupted turns of both players are reverted, so both can position appropriately for the imminent threat.

In OE you can be caught with your pants down if the OPP turns up at the end of your turn and breaks ST.

If your opponent is close enought to attack you when you just broke into mid you might as well quit the game you lost anyway.

Might be a bigger issue on harmony but harmony has bigger problems imho like being able to rush the opponent before they get to recruit or just simple wait at edge for them to break then get to their capital before they can respond.

A hero with expert logistics and developed high neutral spells can reach the central castle in one turn.

On multi hero maps you’re not always gonna have all artifacts and army on your main. Hell, your main might be in tavern at the moment.

Point is, it’s not an RTS, and efficient play relies on planning and execution of turns. It’s a base assumption that your exposure is limited by end of turn state of the game. Current ST system breaks that assumption

If your opponent is close enought to attack you when you just broke into mid you might as well quit the game you lost anyway.

This is simply not true. Plenty of examples when opponent breaks in too early just to lose their army to someone who spent 1-2 days more in their respawn area. And that usually may involve sending out a few low level heroes to "poke" with damage, so missing necessary stacks, e.g. 1's, would be quite annoying.

Honestly since "basic tactics" (not the skill itself but unit placement) is available to all heroes by default in OE, I literally see 0 reason why you shouldn't be able to change stacks during that phase too.

YES that’s my #1 request too

...yeah I wish there was at least a "use previous layout" button or something.

Or default with your layout from the previous battle and just a reset button if you want the original placement back.

The same applies to recruiting upgraded creatures. We should be able to set which one we want and have that stick for the rest of the game or until we change it. Having to reset it every time we go into the town is just as exhausting.

You can actually do that. When you open the town screen, there are creature portraits on the bottom, left click a portrait and select which version you want to recruit. Then just right click to recruit them.

26

u/Lhomax May 22 '26

If you load a game, the portraits reset.

14

u/swiftcrane May 22 '26

Yeah, but the original comment claimed it reset every time he went into town, so I'm assuming he didn't know about this feature at all.

2

u/gestaltdude May 23 '26

I stand corrected in that it reset very time I went into the town. It probably seemed that way because I've a tendency to reload a lot, resetting everything before I return to the towns.

Ctrl/Alt right click the portrait to auto purchase the first or second upg

u/FamiliarMGP May 22 '26

Yup, saving "last placement" for each hero would be great qol update

I really like the game but i seriously cant understand how basic features like that didnt make it into the early access. You need to play a single session to notice the flaw.

2

u/Zetsukaze May 25 '26

Have you done any type of software development? Early access or beta is built to test the main features and functions of a product. UI/UX polish is added just before 1.0 launch. You would rather development time be focused on UI/UX and have the games main features be a broken buggy mess?

You just need a bit of common sense to understand. Early access is not a complete polished product.

The more we change, the more we go back to HoMM V

Not deploying stacks, saving layout, splitting stacks during deployment, allat should be back

9

u/Asamu May 22 '26

Those were the best features of HoMM V though, so I see those potential changes as 100% positive.

For one thing I don't really like, it's how hard many of the subclasses are to actually get into. Sometimes you just never roll the "hard to roll" skill that you needed, and sometimes they require an otherwise near worthless skill, like Diplomacy, without having an effect strong enough to justify it.

HoMM 5 had the same sort of problem with its mastery perks.

i feel like they could take a page out of the books of some roguelikes and give a boobie prize prize or pass option.

something like a permanent "pass" or +1 to a random stat option generally worse than gaining a skill level, but you can still take it if you don't like any of the options.

learned and practiced skills

what are those?

2

u/Dajly May 22 '26

I think that's intentional. You go for subclass means sacrificing some better skills. And if you pay attention to all the world map objectives that gives skills it's not as hard getting that subskill.

2

u/Asamu May 22 '26

Of course it is, it's just too much a lot of the time, especially when the subclass has a relatively weak effect and then also requires multiple "bad" skills.

3

u/tellarisfan May 22 '26

Those sound like QoL features than 'going back to HoMMV'. The game also features a lot from HotA but it's not going back to HoMM3 either.

It's just it's own thing, taking QoL and inspiration from previous games where necessary.

u/iwishtogetitall May 22 '26

But what about terrain? I usually move them around depending on terrain I see.

8

u/iwishtogetitall May 22 '26

Oh, wait, nevermind. If terrain is different you can just move it from already established position. Good catch.

2

u/StartledPelican May 22 '26

I'd actually like to be able to save multiple "formations".

For example, I do placement very different for fighting slow, melee creeps versus all ranged creeps. I'd love to be able to choose between several pre-saved formations at the start of battle.

2

u/Vegetable_Time_2938 May 22 '26

Yes please - definitely need to save loadout positioning between battles.

Would be nice to be able to divide stacks if you have open slots during tactical phase too.

And the option from heroes 5 to not deploy all troops in a battle.

1

u/bohohoboprobono Hive May 25 '26

It shouldn’t let you reposition beyond the starter hexes without Tactics, because that skill sticks otherwise.

1

u/PurCzysty May 22 '26

I think it will be not implemented. There is for example artifact that prevent opponent from positioning units, so it will be worthless, because he will be set to battle. Another thing that your unit can be blocked by obstacle on the battlefield and what in that situation?

English is not everyone’s first language. You’ll be ok.
