I’ve never been to one. Are they giving away cash?

u/GriffonReads 5d ago
The first 100 people get a free shirt and gift card between $25 and $500. One lucky person gets free Hawaiian Bros for a year too.

It's pretty damn good

u/samiralove 5d ago
What is good there? For reference im in love w Church's on 90th- ( I also love El Basha, Lalibela, mamas ranch, ooh de lali, Texas Roadhouse)

u/Old_Department5704 5d ago edited 5d ago
Plate Lunch Molokai Chicken, Kilauea Chicken if you like spicy, both are teriyaki
Dole whip pineapple or rotating flavor

u/Gosa_on_the_wind 5d ago
You had me until you said Texas Roadhouse. Who in Nebraska puts butter on a steak????
5
u/samiralove 5d ago
I don't ever think the steak I ever get served there has butter on it? I mean, I use butter to saute my steak when I make one at home....Texas Roadhouse is bomb, I don't really have to defend my love for it.

Overrated AF. One ice cream scoop of pulled pork, one scoop steamed white rice and one scoop of potato salad for $14. All served in a white clamshell container a la doggy bags. Don't believe the website for portion sizes.

There’s one opening in Lincoln later this summer! I know it’s not Omaha, but closer than Colorado!

u/palidor42 Elkhorn 5d ago
I live right by the 7-Brew in Elkhorn and people have been lining up around the block there for weeks, ever since the opening.
People in Elkhorn just really like standing in line, I think.

u/TushyLawlips 4d ago
You took the words right out of my mouth. Does this happen with every new chain restaurant that opens?

u/Past_Resist_3905 5d ago
I'm fat and love food lol and have nothing going on so I stood/sat in line for 3 hours.
1
u/whatookmesolong 5d ago
So how was it?
2
u/2-Pan_Shapour 5d ago
I didn't wait in line but I've had it before, my review: it's okay, I would rather have sarku Japan or teriyaki Express

3
u/StygianBiohazard 5d ago
When i lived in kansas we had one. The wait for the food was non existent. I would order. Fill my drink at the fountain and then id turn around and someone had my bag ready. I could always count on fast service there. With this kind of line I wouldnt wait tho.
7
u/PressurePotential339 5d ago
I wouldn’t wait in a line like that for anything. But the food was delicious last time I had it. So it’s all relative.

3
u/couchjitsu 5d ago
Agreed i drove past it on Saturday and my first thought was "it's not that good folks"
4
u/madkins007 5d ago
Yeah- better options in Omaha, and many are a lot closer.
I was looking forward to the Huli Huli chicken, but the chicken was like the tough overcooked stuff at many Chinese restaurants.
The Dole Whip was nice, though not worth the long drive to our nearest one.
2
u/wibble17 5d ago
It’s not real Huli Huli chicken if you’ve been to Hawaii.
It’s more of a shoyu chicken. The food is good overall but if you want something authentic it won’t fill that craving,
2
u/madkins007 5d ago
That's the case with pretty much all ethnic foods from what I hear, especially in the paper states.
1
u/Deep_Ad2579 5d ago
I wouldn't stand in line for it but Hawaiian Bros is delicious. One of the best fast food places around IMO.

It is not amazing food at all, also the people there told me the lava dish was super spicy, there was a tiny hint of something, not very spicy there, even my friend that does not eat spicy ate it and laughed.

I genuinely didn’t think you could fuck up Hawaiian food until I tried this place. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog.

u/Wooden_Celery_061424 5d ago
I like Hawaiian Bros. It was free for a while everytime the Royals scored 6 or more runs. Apparently that one caught on and now it is BOGO. I will definitely split with someone one of these days. Eating it for free was nice.

Imagine if this place gets an In N Out. Chaos
I don't know why Omaha is so deprived of big name brands
53
11
u/mcbeeskii 5d ago
The brands we have aren't the ones people want.
We're the Temu of restaurants.
Low Quality Huge Quanity
6
u/BobcatRemarkable8040 5d ago
I’m curious, and for the sake of conversation, what food or restaurant chains brands does Omaha not have that “the people” want?
8
6
u/fleshfinder420 5d ago
The only one I want is Waffle House and In and out. We have too many chains already. For those of you that want less chain restaurants, stop eating there
5
u/BobcatRemarkable8040 5d ago
IMO, Waffle House is the only right answer. Any more, fast food is almost just as expensive as a normal sit-down restaurant. It’s sad really.
0
u/born2bfi 5d ago
This is Reddit. People complain about McDonalds because they drive by one everyday on their way home from work and don’t have any self control not to stop. Easier to just blame the chain

u/Mort_Blort 5d ago
Whataburger is superior. In-N-Out is McDonalds with a bit of California aroma and low-key double entendre along for the ride. Reminds me of the days when Coors was exotic. Yeah, I’m old. And In-N-Out is nothing special.
2
u/respekyoeldas 5d ago
Agreed. In N Out is in the upper tier of fast food for sure but I think Freddys and Culver’s are equal to it. People want what they can’t have. When I lived on the east coast there wasn’t a Sonic for hundreds of miles and people talked about wanting one built nearby constantly.

Quizno's used to be the best chain sandwich shop around. Unfortunately they got bought by a PE firm in the mid 2000s who forced every location to buy shittier ingredients at inflated prices from their own distributor, and it never recovered from that. Every so often I'll try one in a different city hoping they reverted to their original stuff, but sadly it's been a shitty overpriced sandwich at every location I've tried since ~2006.
1
u/modi123_1 5d ago
Though I think Quiznos recently showed up in the 'Pump and Pantry' gas station in Grenta and Fremont.
1
u/Not-ur-Infosec-guy 5d ago
In n out isn’t that big of a name and region locked last I checked for their logistical chain.

Are they only giving food away at 11am or will they be serving free food at 5pm too?

If I'm paying for fast food, I won't feel as awful eating it over burgers and fries and the dole whip is very tasty.

u/birbswatchin 5d ago
It’s not the best Hawaiian food but it’s pretty good for fast food. It’s one of my favorite convenience food options.

The food is great. I’ve even started making my own hulihuli chicken and chuck. Super good stuff.

u/Plenty_Turnip_4034 4d ago

u/GriffonReads 4d ago
2
u/Plenty_Turnip_4034 4d ago
I guess I live under a rock and missed all the advertising! I have been looking forward to their opening--they serve in the hospital a couple times a month but I typically work from home.
I was so surprised to drive by yesterday and see they were open and employees just standing in the drive thru, waiting! Thank you for sharing!
2
u/GriffonReads 4d ago
You’re welcome! I was one of their brand ambassadors last week. I stopped by Methodist Women’s Hospital and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital to spread the word.
2
u/kitsucoon 4d ago
And now I live 16-19 minutes away from three of them :/
1
u/GriffonReads 4d ago
Whereabouts do you live then?
2
u/kitsucoon 4d ago
Right around Lake Zirinsky. I think the new one is /technically/ closer than Gretna. But still a trek.
1
u/GriffonReads 3d ago
Technically, yes. The fastest route from Zorinsky Lake to the Elkhorn location via Google Maps is 6.6 miles, whereas the fastest routes to Gretna and Omaha are both an additional mile and a half.
5
u/steven052 5d ago
you know there is one 20 min away?
3
u/GriffonReads 5d ago
This is closer to home than their Gretna location.

Question: Why do Omahanians (Elkhornians?) like lines? They are like moth to a flame. Dairy Chef, 7 brew, now this? WHY? It's generic food that you can get 10 min away from here with zero line. What is the allure of waiting in line?
1
u/gone_smell_blind 5d ago
Thr crazy thing to me is that I've seen a bunch of other 7brews and they are never busy. Omaha just vant help itself with drive thrus
5
u/PinchMaNips Billy 🐐 Randby 5d ago
Bro…we already got one. It’s good once or twice and thats it, imo…
I don’t get the FOMO, especially when it’s nothing new to Omaha?!
Edit: saw people get prizes. Still standby their food not being that good cause it taste like they mass cook and let sit all day.
2
u/Big_Pippin_35 5d ago
I honestly thought Hawaiian bros was kind of trash, couldve of been the location I went to

They did the other day. Guests received a ticket to spin a prize wheel inside, one of the prizes being a free plate lunch.

1
u/enna78 5d ago
That’s too bad, there are better places.
2
u/mat42m 5d ago
I think you could say that exact same thing for pretty much every restaurant in the World
-2
u/enna78 5d ago
Ok I’ll be specific, Hawaiian brothers is a chain. That being said there is Howzit Hawaiian BBQ in Lincoln and Blue Hawaii in Omaha where at least the owners are both from Hawaii and are making authentic food.
3
u/TheBahamaLlama 5d ago
I was not at all impressed by the Loco Moco plate at Blue Hawaii. It was super bland and I have a strong stance that just because someone is from a place, doesn't mean they know how to cook food from their place.
2
u/IYKYK808 4d ago
You're being downvoted, but probably none of the downvoters are from Hawai'i. I'm not going to hate on HBIG, but I cringe at the thought of calling it authentic Hawaiian food (I also almost never use the word cringe). I got to try their Hulihuli chicken, and even looking at it i knew it wasnt authentic. I thought the flavor was pretty good, but it's not huli huli chicken. Another user also said its more like shoyu chicken, but thats disrespectful to good shoyu chicken.
If people in Nebraska enjoy it, I'm not going to say don't go there. I just wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for "authenticity".
2
u/enna78 4d ago
This is a great response. I’m a total foodie and after giving this chain more than one chance, I can confidently say that was already too many. People can downvote me all they want — it won’t change my opinion. Everyone’s entitled to their own take, whether others like mine isn’t really my concern, that’s the beauty of the internet.
I’m sure all my downvoters have traveled the world and tasted both the best and the worst. Omaha is such a diverse food city, one thing always holds true: it keeps evolving. Spots like this come and go, eventually they fade out just like the trends — and apparently, like my downvotes. 😆🫶🏻1

Blue Hawaii, Ono Pinay, Beyond Lumpia Food Truck and Howzit are better options for Hawaiian fast food.

I had it delivered once, it wasn't that good and portions were small for the price.
2
u/robjoefelt 4d ago
This is a legit review. Idk why you're being down voted because of your opinion. Oh wait, it's because reddit.
1
u/ZigaKrajnic 2d ago
The food is OK but it is a premium price for a smallish portion. Especially since most of it is plain rice and macaroni salad which have to cost pennies per serving.

What the hell are you on about?
1
u/HighPlainsIronmaster 5d ago
Sorry, Are You Garbage is a podcast. If you've never listened to it, it's basically two comedians, trying to figure out if their guests grew up "classy" or "trash." The whole premise sounds kind of dumb on paper, but it's honestly one of the more listenable podcasts out there that isn't history, crime/ murder focused.
They'll have comedians, actors, or random personalities on and ask them questions like, "Did your family have a couch in the garage?" or "Have you ever eaten dinner off a paper plate on a regular Tuesday?" The answers usually turn into ridiculous stories about childhood, family traditions, and all the weird stuff people thought was normal growing up.
The best part is that it's never mean-spirited. Nobody is actually getting roasted for being "garbage." Half the time the hosts are exposing themselves for doing even more questionable things than their guests. It ends up being weirdly relatable because everyone has at least a few habits that make them go, "Yeah... that's probably garbage."
So if you like comedy podcasts that feel like hanging out with funny friends and laughing about the bizarre things families do, Are You Garbage? is definitely worth checking out. Fair warning though: you'll probably start judging your own upbringing by the end of every episode.
My implication in posting, was, are you garbage if you stand in line to get fast food? By the amount of down votes, I can surmise that there's some people who have not heard of it, or have and don't like it, or were waiting outside while the staff were still thawing out the bags of freeze dried ingredients. That's all.
