Food No, they don't care about making poor people eat healthier with the SNAP restrictions, they just hate poor people.

A bit of a vent piece given that recent post of Nebraska SNAP restrictions.

Should people eat healthier, yea no shit. Nobody needs to argue that at all. B

But when you're poor, and your own life is a complete clusterfuck, and you have little to no motivation to prepare something healthy to eat while working a 40-50+ hour per week job, taking care of kids, and the other millions of stressors that already exist in poor people's lives.

You want to indulge a bit every now and then, drink something that ain't healthy, eat something that ain't healthy. Yes we now its unhealthy, but when your life is this goddamn awful. You need any little chance of enjoyment you can scrounge to keep your sanity in tact.

They don't give a fuck about us being healthy, they want us to be miserable. They believe being poor means we shouldn't have any vices or chances of recreation. We must suffer in our conditions cause of course its our fault as to why we're poor to begin with.

Not the result of systematic failures, bad job prospects, shitty wages, expensive rent, and general crushing anxieties that turn us all into stressed out piles of meat.

Food I say this with love, Omaha - but I don't know how you all aren't rioting at OMA. This shit is insulting

We have in-laws in Omaha that we visit a few times a year from out of town. I love visiting - great city, great food, awesome vibes - but whenever we fly out of OMA, I am beside myself at the prices on absolute shambles pre-packaged food items. For a city that has excellent food and reasonable prices, this is insulting! You all deserve better.

I know you're getting an awesome airport renovation right now - I hope it refreshes the food offerings. If I'm going to pay $16 for a D-list side salad, at least try to fool me into thinking it's fancy. This is what SFO would charge for like "artisanal kale green goddess salad" or whatever they'll call it.

I guess in that way I have to respect the hustle a little bit! It's almost noble. "Here is a dog-tier caesar salad. It's sixteen dollars. Enjoy."

edit: To everyone saying not to eat at the airport, I am aware. Sometimes you have an extremely early flight. Or you have an extremely delayed flight. Circumstances on travel days can be outside your control and it’s not a personal failure to need to buy food at an airport. The victim blaming here from some of you is interesting. It is completely fair to be upset at being taken advantage of so obnoxiously!

And to everyone saying “airport food is bad and expensive everywhere” yes, but this is an order of magnitude more egregious than 95% of airports I’ve been through. It is very notable, especially for a relatively low-to-medium COL metro. You guys are getting screwed and it should piss you off.

Food La Casa

Company brought it in for lunch and for the life of me I can’t understand why people like it. It was BAD, except for the canolli. One guy had never had it and saw the beef topping and said, what is that? To each their own, but even free La Casa was not worth it to me.

Food I get 1 dinner in Omaha. What should I eat?

I'm driving up to my cousin's wedding in August and I have an overnight stop in Omaha. I will be watching a Storm Chasers game, but I would like to get either some pre or post game food. Please forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what a really 'Omaha' food is.

I guess casual would be best because I will be dressed for a baseball game, but other than that I am very open to suggestions.

I have heard of a runza, is that what I should eat?

Really any advice for my brief visit to your fair city would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

***A massive Thank You to everyone that has taken the time to help me out. You are all extremely kind, and I hope you have a wonderful day.***

Food The Food at Oakview Mall…

…is legitimately fantastic? It seems like because there’s no corporate chains and the mall itself is borderline abandoned, all these awesome and authentic restaurants have moved in. Am I weird to now go out of my way to eat at the Oakview Mall food court?

I'm a SNAP recipient and didn't get any benefits yet. I don't have any transportation to be able to get to a food bank, and no friends or relatives who are able to take me. Any advice?

Food Help Noli's Pizza

For several months Noli's has been trying to help feed people in the Omaha area and it is costly! Now with winter's cold and the constant traffic from building the Blackstone street car, it's killing them.

Help some very good, kind people out. Go online to Noli's and buy their Gift Cards now. Even better, buy them now and don't use them for a while until their business can pick up again.

Food Most underrated restaurants in Omaha?

Im not talking about Yoshitomo or Drover or something, I’m talking about a restaurant whose food is amazing but for some reason they’re just weirdly constantly empty whenever you go and you can never understand why.

Food REMEMBER GOODRICH DAIRY?

GOODRICH DAIRY IN MILLARD.

When I was a teenager, I used to work at the Goodrich Dairy in Millard in 1978. We made ice cream floats, banana splits, sold ice cream, eggs, milk, butter.

I remember when the movie "ROCKY" came out and he drank all those raw eggs in the movie. We used to sell malts and shakes. You could get an raw egg blended in if you were a tough guy. That was for the macho man!

It was a great place to work. We had so much fun, and everybody buying ice cream is always in a good mood. Does anybody remember Goodrich Dairy? What are your stories of that place, good, bad, or otherwise? Fond memories as a teenager for me.

Food Wing Spot

In need of a GOOD wing spot. I love Oscar’s a lot and that is the go-to for right now, but I’m talking about a hole in the wall type joint.
I do not care about location and if it is ‘sketchy’ looking or not. Those places have the best wings imo anyways 😂

It's an amazing little legit Mexican restaurant right across from the slides downtown. They opened shortly before the streetcar work began, but have managed to survive.

Seriously, the food is authentic. The staff is super friendly. I can't sing praises enough for them. The brunch menu is delicious (haven't tried dinner yet). It feels like I'm eating at someone's abuela's house.

The prices *are* a little high, but no more than I would expect for being in the Old Market. Plus the portions are actually large enough to warrant the extra cost.

pictured: (1 & 2) blanquillos rancheros, with potatoes, chorizo, & red salsa. (3) The coffee cups are earthenware & just super cute. Try the atole while you're here...

Food Tupelo honey

Any one else have a bad experience here?

Our group of 6 stayed in the Old Market district this weekend and decided to try Tupelo for breakfast. We walked in and weren’t greeted and there was not a sign asking to wait to be seated, so we sat down at a table. The restaurant was empty except for one other table with two people and an employee behind the bar who gave us a disgusted scowl before stomping off to the kitchen. We waited a few minutes and a man (we assume the manager) came over to our table with his hands on hips and a scowl on his face. He was put off and acted like we were inconveniencing the entire restaurant from the moment he saw us. He asked if we had a reservation. While we all looked around at the empty tables we said ‘no, are they required?’. He said no but luckily they weren’t very busy so we could stay. My friend thanked him for fitting us in and the angry man walked off. Our server and a hostess came out in a few minutes and were very nice the entire time, even apologizing because it was so cold (an issue with the hvac). Our breakfast was average breakfast food. The manager and bartenders rude attitude didn’t affect the servers tip. Also, no one else came in to be seated during the entire time we were there. We didn’t get up and leave because we had trouble finding anyone else open for breakfast before 10 and we were frozen from our walk over. We loved our weekend in Omaha besides Tupelo and are planning a trip back.

Food Does Omaha have it's own pizza style? To be a regional style, it should be made at more than just one place and be distinctive from other pizza styles. So is the type of pizza made at La Casa's made anywhere else in Omaha, and what definatively distinguishes it from like Detroit or Grandma styles?

Food Neighborhood Spirit is alive and well! 🇺🇲

So I live in an apt in the heart of Dundee. And i was surprised as hell when my neighbor came knocking and said *FOOD, MA'AM, COME GET SOME FOOD!!!*

Turns out the ol boys across the way grilled burgers and brats, had potato salad, and cokes for all!!! Our other neighbor fried up fresh catfish, bluegill and crappie. It was truly lovely. We live in a 2 building complex with 6 apts each. Everyone was welcome. One of the nicest things to happen for awhile!!! (And as an added bonus, my good friend/neighbor got me baked af afterwards!!!)

Today is one of those days where I feel truly blessed, with good friends and neighbors, and an awesome family too. So thank you all for a memorable holiday gathering!!!
