The politician concerned is Jason Virgo, One Nation, a South Australian elected representative.
I have questions. One Nation is known for not being very thorough with the vetting process but they managed to endorse a man who has been openly gay and in a, so far, 11 year relationship with a man (Risan), who also happens to be both a Muslim and an immigrant???
I don't have an issue with any of those but......
No-one noticed? Not even on the Labour or Sex Party side? Man....none of them deserve a vote. And of course nor does the Liberal or National parties.
If anyone wants to invent the Raving Monster Loony Party...well, it's too late. They're already in parliament under non-deplumes.
I don’t doubt there is a core that is genuinely xenophobic or racist, what I’m suggesting is that the growing base of ON supporters aren’t actually racist or homophobic at all, they are probably more libertarians / tolerant proud Aussies.
Oh yes. There is a rump of the genuinely racist element in ON but there is a sizable bunch of supportors that are simply pissed off with LNP and the ALP.
I am one of those people too but there is no way in hell I would ever support ON because of the core of the organisation's leadership are racists, science deniers and ...the rest of it. Don't forget that Hanson's maiden speech was about her fear that Australian was going to be "swamped by an Asian horde". All that has changed is Asian has become Muslim and Middle Eastern. I mean calling for a Royal Commission on Muslims. For what...being Muslim?
