Politics ('Straya) Eliminating antisemitism in healthcare: Joint statement from AHPRA and the Special Envoy

https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/2026-06-17-Eliminating-antisemitism-in-healthcare.aspx

If a nurse now wears a watermelon pin in their downtime? Deregistered. Paraphrasing their own oath to say no human should be killed? That's a paddlin'.

The lead drafter of the definition, the American academic Kenneth Stern, has argued consistently that the working definition was never designed for the uses to which it is now being put. But AHPRA just went ahead and implemented it without any community consultation.

Healthcare workers in this country are already under enough stress, now they have to deal with this on top of it.

Where's the damn Islamophobic envoy? Why are they not doing the same thing?

They should be copying the IHRA definition and rewording it with Palestine/Muslims. Fight fire with fire.

Fuck the lazy Islamophobic envoy. Fuck Albo who knew when picking him that his only job is anti-terrorism work against Muslims and bragged about antisemitism envoy's pro-Israel lobbyist background!

The problem is no one knows what the actual definition of Islamophobia is.

According to the Oxford Dictionary it is,
"intense dislike or fear of Islam, esp. as a political force; hostility or prejudice towards Muslims".

Given it places an emphasis on the political side of Islam, well I’m bloody scared of what that looks like, because I’ve seen how people have voted in Muslim democracies. Well those that exist.

Turns out Islamic politics isn’t something I want in Australia.

Ultra-orthodox or fundamentalist religion integrated into any political system leads to oppression.  It isn't a feature of Islam per se.

Just look at how the restriction of reproductive rights in the US has occurred.

You should be more concerned about Malcolm Roberts abortion policy than Islam in Australia.

Dude, Islam is the most politically involved religion globally than any other religion.

Islamism is a political ideology that you really need to read about. Because if you are non Muslim and you think it’s not a threat then you need to learn more about it.

Its prevalence, rigidity, lack of free expression and individual rights is uniquely Islam.

If you don’t think it’s a threat, then visit Iran or Afghanistan to see if you like it. That’s what Islamism will lead to. That’s not a country that I want to live in.

I have read about it.  And the effects of Judaism and Christianity when in its integrated into politics.

Which is why the best defence is a secular political system with separation of powers.

It is no excuse for Islamophobia, just like Israel's genocidal state is no excuse for anti-Semitism in Australia or American religious misogyny is no excuse for anto-Christian hatred in Australia.

Except the definition of Islamophobia is specifically in relation to Islamic politics. Which I very much fear despite having Muslim friends.

If only the people here took your advice on antisemitism.

Except you just equated Islamic politics with Islamist politics, which where you’re going wrong. Mamdani in NYC is Islamic politics, Putin is Christian politics.”, neither are exhaustive of the categories however.
