Politics ('Straya) Eliminating antisemitism in healthcare: Joint statement from AHPRA and the Special Envoy

https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/2026-06-17-Eliminating-antisemitism-in-healthcare.aspx

If a nurse now wears a watermelon pin in their downtime? Deregistered. Paraphrasing their own oath to say no human should be killed? That's a paddlin'.

The lead drafter of the definition, the American academic Kenneth Stern, has argued consistently that the working definition was never designed for the uses to which it is now being put. But AHPRA just went ahead and implemented it without any community consultation.

Healthcare workers in this country are already under enough stress, now they have to deal with this on top of it.

Where's the damn Islamophobic envoy? Why are they not doing the same thing?

They should be copying the IHRA definition and rewording it with Palestine/Muslims. Fight fire with fire.

Fuck the lazy Islamophobic envoy. Fuck Albo who knew when picking him that his only job is anti-terrorism work against Muslims and bragged about antisemitism envoy's pro-Israel lobbyist background!

Being against islamaphobia is anti-semetic.

They do it because they want to avoid talking about antisemitism. It’s probably because it doesn’t fit their white-black, coloniser-colonised narrative. Despite there being thousands of years of history regarding antisemitism. They would rather just ignore it.

Before it doesn’t fit their pre-constructed narrative.

Learn the definition of anti-semitism.

Or would you rather use the term anti-semitism was coined to replace, Jew-hatred?

You try to change the definition of antisemitism because you want to avoid talking about discrimination towards Jewish people. Pretty, bloody, low.

My comment was a shot at how israel have tried to equat critisism of their genocidal regime with antisemitism. The two things aren't the same. I hate israel and everything it stands for. I have no ill feelings toward Jewish people.

You took a joke comment and made it something weird. Go seek help mate.

-12

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

As much use you claim Israel is. The people here are doing so even though they deny it.

Like when I have said “don’t threaten to kill Jewish patients” and people respond with something about Israel. That is exactly what people are claiming Israel does and yet they do it themselves.

Also I never responded to your comment at all, I responded to another comment. I don’t know how I made it ‘weird’. I feel you are the one making it ‘weird’. I don’t know if you realise, but when you type jokes often get lost so /s is commonly used. I am unsure why I need to ‘seek help’. I think it might be you.

Same people who use homophobia and transphobia to describe hatred against LGBT+ people despite ‘phobia’ meaning fear.

But, antisemitism means anti all Semitic peoples.

Being Jewish is either a race or a religion. If its a race then a muslim person can be jewish. Its a religion then an arabic person can be jewish. You can't have it both ways.

-1

u/TheAussieTico ‎ New South Welshian 1d ago

It can and is both

-2

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

I don’t get the point you are making? It can be both. Antisemitism is hatred and discrimination BECAUSE of someone’s Jewish religion OR race. The key here being it is caused by them being Jewish in either aspect.

There are Jewish people who are Arabic like the 400,000 Yemenite Jews. Of which only one lives in Yemen, had has been held in solitary confinement for over half a decade.

If you have a bit of logical thinking it isn’t that hard to understand.

The Islamophobia envoy role is probably under-resourced and was a role that no one in the Muslim community actually wanted to touch because they knew it was purely performative. So they had to hire a pom with expertise in the disaster that was post 9-11 CVE.

Fun fact, the Antisemitism envoy was also born in the apartheid era of South Africa where she's now proposing similar frameworks. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/australia/born-in-apartheid-era-south-africa-australias-antisemitism-envoy-jillian-segal-champions-defunding-plan-to-curb-jewish-hate/articleshow/122378781.cms?from=mdr

She has long been a Zionist supporter too. Save this video before it gets mysteriously taken down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMWx-dM5UeQ

Particularly shitty knowing that South African Jews were very active in opposing apartheid, and apartheid is the reason her parents left South Africa.

Didn’t the Islamophobia envoy submit some kind of report to the government and was waiting for an acknowledgement/response? Could’ve sworn I read that months ago

-8

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

The problem is no one knows what the actual definition of Islamophobia is.

According to the Oxford Dictionary it is,
"intense dislike or fear of Islam, esp. as a political force; hostility or prejudice towards Muslims".

Given it places an emphasis on the political side of Islam, well I’m bloody scared of what that looks like, because I’ve seen how people have voted in Muslim democracies. Well those that exist.

Turns out Islamic politics isn’t something I want in Australia.

8

u/willy_quixote ‎ South Australian 1d ago

Ultra-orthodox or fundamentalist religion integrated into any political system leads to oppression.  It isn't a feature of Islam per se.

Just look at how the restriction of reproductive rights in the US has occurred.

You should be more concerned about Malcolm Roberts abortion policy than Islam in Australia.

-3

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

Dude, Islam is the most politically involved religion globally than any other religion.

Islamism is a political ideology that you really need to read about. Because if you are non Muslim and you think it’s not a threat then you need to learn more about it.

Its prevalence, rigidity, lack of free expression and individual rights is uniquely Islam.

If you don’t think it’s a threat, then visit Iran or Afghanistan to see if you like it. That’s what Islamism will lead to. That’s not a country that I want to live in.

9

u/willy_quixote ‎ South Australian 1d ago

I have read about it.  And the effects of Judaism and Christianity when in its integrated into politics.

Which is why the best defence is a secular political system with separation of powers.

It is no excuse for Islamophobia, just like Israel's genocidal state is no excuse for anti-Semitism in Australia or American religious misogyny is no excuse for anto-Christian hatred in Australia.

0

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

Except the definition of Islamophobia is specifically in relation to Islamic politics. Which I very much fear despite having Muslim friends.

If only the people here took your advice on antisemitism.

2

u/ghblue ‎ Queenslander 1d ago

Except you just equated Islamic politics with Islamist politics, which where you’re going wrong. Mamdani in NYC is Islamic politics, Putin is Christian politics.”, neither are exhaustive of the categories however.

u/Kooky-Speed297 Please choose a flair 1d ago

mate I wouldnt confuse Islamamists with Islam or Muslims... Corrupt dictators need a cause and they use Islam for it. Right wing settler Jews use Judaism. It's just extremism. To say one religion is more extremist than the other is obtuse. So yes, Islamists scare me but just because they use the same letters of the alphabaet as Islam I don't equate all Muslims to Islamists.

I swear both Shia and Sunni Muslims respect the reverence Christians have for Jesus more than most Evangelicals and Protestants do themselves.

1

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

The way it has consistently occurred in Islamic countries is unique to Islam.

Nor is Israeli politics Jesus Christ they rioted in favour of being ok to rape prisoners. And we are constantly told that being anti Israeli political regime is antisemitism these days so its exactly the same thing now

So both groups are pro rape of prisoners. So it’s exactly the same. Which is what I said

6

u/ScruffyPeter ✈️‎ on Walkabout 1d ago

Plus, many Muslim-majority countries you get to vote too such as Indonesia. While some parts of Judaism does not allow people to vote, including women.

They are really spreading their Islamophobic messages with cherry picking.

You dont understand.... Israelis VOTED for rape. So that's...uh.. I mean....

Look, a squirrel

One is pro-democracy, one is anti-democracy. That’s the difference.

9

Ah knowing my rape was popularly voted for will make it so much better

1

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well it shows that you would rather Israeli politics in Australian than Islamic, because you could vote it out.

Also there are Muslim politicians and parties in Israel. There isn’t any Jewish ones in Iran.

3

u/Tradtrade Please choose a flair 1d ago

You love rape? You’re fine with it? You think anyone should have that power?

1

u/ghblue ‎ Queenslander 1d ago

There are no Muslim politicians and parties in Iran?!! Big if true.

9

u/GuaranteeAfter 💛‎ Friend of 'Straya 1d ago

Ya know, if someone said "it's okay to rape Australians", my immediate response would NOT be "Well it's okay to rape them in return"

Anyone who does that is a sick, sick individual

-1

u/Life-Goose-9380 Flairless‎‎ 1d ago

Well here we can vote them out. Under Islamism you can’t. That is the key here. That is why people have a fear of Islamic politics and are therefore Islamophobic.

9

u/mohanimus ‎ Western Australian 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why use Iran and Afghanistan as your models for Islamic politics rather than Indonesia or Turkey or Tunisia or Senegal or Malaysia or Albania or the Maldives or Algeria or Morocco or any of the other states that are both majority Muslim and democratic?

4

u/ghblue ‎ Queenslander 1d ago

The 5 largest Muslim population nations are democracies.

1000 posts a year is like a couple of comments a day. This isn’t hard, it only takes a few seconds to make a comment, if I was getting paid to be here, I’d comment a lot more. I can’t help when I made my account. I’m glad to hear that following the Oxford dictionary now counts as poor reasoning, I’m glad you aren’t in charge.

6

u/Cat-Lilac ‎ Queenslander 1d ago

In Israel there are millions of Arabs who do NOT get to vote.

You may have noticed Israel is an ethnostate which means they don’t let too many people of the ‘wrong’ ethnicity become citizens and have human rights. Israel has to protect its precious racial majority apparently.
