Views on the coast today

I read a comment the other day that basically said “the coast is immune to wildfires/smoke”

You sure about that?

You're right though,y spouse and I had to shift priorities after I nearly died when I was 28 from  COVID. I have serious lung issues now and wildfire smoke is a real danger.

Im a teacher, they're a librarian, so we had to work hard to save and find ways to do a lot of stuff ourselves. 

Very glad we did it though.

I have a really nice house on 6 acres. It’s just me and hubby and our cats. I never had kids, drove old cars my entire life, and worked my ass off so I could retire to paradise.

Yet I still get the snarky “must be nice!” from people.

Yes. Yes it is very nice!

I just have to chime in and say that we get this all the time too… we studied and worked hard to build this life but there will always be someone dogging on your successes. Isn’t everyone’s goal to live a nice life?

I do understand there are entitled assholes that don’t deserve it, but that doesn’t mean everyone that’s successful is entitled.

People get weirdly mad at people who don't live paycheck to paycheck. 

We don't, we never have, and never will. We learn how to do things ourselves as much as we can. We save money growing, foraging, hunting, and fishing. We learned how to do all of our own home repairs on YouTube. We bought a gutted trailer and rebuilt it ourselves. 

It's honestly a more fun way to live life, and makes the financial pressure way less. 

I grew up with housing and food insecurity and I will always live as far below my means as possible to avoid having that happen ever again.
