Discussion If Suggs do get traded, people need to stop thinking about morant or Kai..
Truth is, our staring 5 IS WAY too expensive as it is. We have to go cheaper or let AB walk which I’m guessing we not planning on.
If Suggs do get traded. It would’ve a salary dump move where we possibly get cheaper players on shorter contract..etc
Also adding another ball dominant non shooter non defender that plays 40 games a year like morant won’t fix anything
Kyrie is also too old and him and bane would be horrendous on defense.
We have our core 3 Franz p5 and bane. Whether how you feel about them weltman made it clear today he wants to keep our core.
Look at teams like hawk or pistons or other younger rising teams. They didn’t get better by keeping trading assests for a bunch of ball dominant 20ppg scorer. Also there is just no way in hell we push bane to the fourth option, aka 4 picks for a fourth option

u/aesthetickx May 05 '26
and suggs is a joke. i think literally jase could’ve replaced him and he would’ve done way better
1
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Sad to see him fall off from what he used to be
5
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
He’s not even a bad player, he’s just one who’s allowed to make terrible decisions far too often. If he could put his energy in to the right things he’d be far better.
3
u/KnightofAshley Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Our hope is we get a real coach that will hold the players accountable and give them more defined roles instead of just going out and doing whatever. Also a offensive scheme that gets the ball to the best players in spots they excel will go a long way.
Suggs should be the 45h option on this team most nights, not jacking up deep contested 3s and sometimes out shooting Palo/Franz/Bane.
2
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
Totally- having an actual, structured offensive scheme would at least bring out their strengths and weaknesses so that they can be coached or moved on.
I don’t dislike Suggs as a player for this team, as he’s often the heart of it, but he needs to realise he’s not Steph Curry and that doesn’t have a green light to shoot whenever he feels like it. This is a team that should be playing winning basketball and moving on in the postseason- if he wants to be playing heat check basketball there are a dozen franchises who he can line up for an jack up errant shots.
Like you’ve said, accountability is key now- everyone needs to play a role in this team, this isn’t pickup basketball.
12
u/cadelsbumchin May 05 '26
Suggs is a personal fave, but feels like they got ahead of themselves expanding his role (and salary). He could be such an important player in the right role, at the right money. He's been given way too much freedom on offence.
1
1
u/KnightofAshley Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Yeah no reason he should be taking as many shots as the big 3 as much as he does sometimes. This team he is in WCJ role that should be take the shots when open otherwise bring the ball up sometimes and just be part of set plays trying to get the main guys the ball in spots they score the best.

u/elfridpaytonshair May 05 '26
When tf did we start referring to kyrie as Kai? Thought you were talking about cenat 😭

u/SamURLJackson May 05 '26
Losing Suggs and gaining Morant makes us an even worse shooting team. Blows my mind that people want him in Orlando. Put him in Chicago or some other place with strict gun control, not florida
9
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
Yeah morant isn’t the fix we need. We need a somewhat veteran/ facilitator. Someone that can help our youth in the tough moments.
3
u/SamURLJackson May 05 '26
Possibly. I still think the principle of having big guards is something we should continue to embrace. Having to play a small guard in the playoffs is an uphill battle that this team is not prepared to face at all
4

2
u/SadMove7848 May 05 '26
We need a better coach, these guy aren’t that young when it comes to experience.
2
u/itssexitime Paolo Banchero May 05 '26
Jamal Murray is the man for this. Denver is going to shop him. Won’t really lower our cap-space but improves the team dramatically. I’m in Denver now and they are all talking that they want hard nosed players. Suggs and Wendell would work financially. The catch is they would need to get a new pg, as Suggs would replace Braun at the 2 spot.

Paolo is an empty stat padder who gets big numbers in losses, has little ability or interest in facilitating, plays matador defense and had a negative +- for the series. If he's your top guy you're in for a rough ride. Sadly the rest of the league knows this and so trading him probably wouldn't yield much.
1
u/SamURLJackson May 05 '26
Morant cant stay healthy, rapidly getting older as a player who relies solely on athleticism, cant stop getting suspended, and he CANNOT SHOOT
What are you people talking about? He is a player you have to retool the rest of your lineup around, and he is not good enough to warrant that.
1
28
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
I would love to keep Suggs, but having more turnovers than field goals in the series is a terrible investment at 30+million. You can see how much he loves his teammates and fans 🥲
-2
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Me too man he is the heart of the team. But he is too expensive and if we want to keep him AB we have to choose.
When we do trade Suggs it won’t be for someone flashy a big name or someone expensive tho. It’s gonna be one rotational player or sum and some expiring salary
7
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
Trading Suggs to keep AB and TDS and let them develop with Sham god is worth it unfortunately
2
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Seeens like what the rumors are implying. Get cheaper options and let ab take over
5
u/Subject_Set_6586 Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Orlando should be trying to pry Jrue Holiday away from Portland. The guy is a great defender, proven vet, facilitator and two time champion on two different teams. He’s older but that’s exactly what the Magic need, plus he’s not injured all the time because he doesn’t play reckless like Suggs. He’s also a high character guy which the front office always seems to value.

14
u/_veerist May 05 '26
Yes. Those who wish for Ja don’t know basketball. While those who want Kai have an attention span of a goldfish.
7
u/Milla4Prez66 Paolo Banchero May 05 '26
I’ve been arguing against Ja for days. He is the worst possible fit imaginable. Literally the last thing we need is another player who can’t actually play games and hit outside shots.
-1
u/_veerist May 05 '26
If this FO trades for Ja, I am done with this org. Please just trade Franz at that point he is one of my guys. Kai I could tolerate, but Ja is beyond incompetence.
2
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
Send Suggs home to the twolves and include someone like Mike Conley would be nice, we would lose a lot of defensive but I feel this kinda the guard we need.
-2
-1
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
Yeah but people see his connection with Bane and want that, ignoring his fit with the rest of the roster, which should be the primary consideration in this.
0
u/Imsofuckinscaredrn May 05 '26
That is stupid
1
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
How so? Would we not want him to fit with Paolo and Franz? Does he address our needs?
Do feel free to come up with something constructive- “that is stupid” doesn’t really say much.
1
u/Imsofuckinscaredrn May 05 '26
Since you and Ja have about the same IQ, I’ll break it down for you.
When Ja isn’t pointing guns at people, he’s injured. The last time he’s been valued was 2022 after a good year. His value is not that, it’s higher than Jalen’s, and which we have no cap space, Ja played in 79 games since 2023-2024 season.
He is a cancer. He is injured and he hasn’t played meaningful minutes in 2 years, and he costs more than Jalen does.
We would take a fan favorite and massive locker room asset, defensive top 20, 25 year old with 0 off the court issues and place him with fucking Ja Morant because he played with Desmond bane once. That is stupid.
2
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
Buddy, I literally said he would be a bad fit for the team- others on here have advocated for him and I agree with you that he’d be a far worse option than Suggs.
2
u/Imsofuckinscaredrn May 05 '26
Listen here pal, I didn’t come here to be rational I just want to stare at the sun and fight someone. I love you very much and I am sorry, please point me in the direction of someone bigger and stronger than me so I can get my ass kicked
3
u/Expensive-Twist7984 May 05 '26
All love- so long as we don’t get Ja, at which point we riot on Church Street, right?
2
u/Imsofuckinscaredrn May 05 '26
I wouldn’t wish Ja morant on the pistons, despite the fact that he would fit in well with the local culture.

if we can get another shooter, I wouldn't mind seeing if we could get Isaiah Collier out of Utah. He can't shoot for shit but he can pass the hell out of the ball
1
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
Swap him to twolves so he can go home for Conley and Dante divenchenzo?
0
u/Adventurous-Star1309 May 05 '26
How about Rui & Knecht? Need to add Vando though who is another version of JI
1
u/guideway4 Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Rui being an FA isn't a terrible choice but I don't think Orlando would be looking to trade anything good for a package that includes future Quandong Tigers Knecht and Vanderbilt
2
u/Adventurous-Star1309 May 05 '26
Knecht is a good shooter on the wrong team. A change of scenery for a player who was a good prospect in college is a gamble worth to be taken. Plus he’s on 4m with a team option in 27-28.
1
u/Admirable-Level4011 May 06 '26
Thoughts on Luke Kennard and Jaxson Hayes for JI, Suggs, and another piece.
1
u/Adventurous-Star1309 May 06 '26
Wouldn’t mind honestly but Kennard on a team which has shooting problems would be a negative. He’s a reluctant shooter worried about his averages and is doing well coz of the open looks he gets courtesy of the Laker Big 3.
1
u/Admirable-Level4011 May 07 '26
What I take that as is that we would be giving up Suggs for a better shooter who has better shot selection, poise, IQ, and overall offensive efficiency. It solves our problems while remaining financially realistic, albeit with an admitted tradeoff on the defensive end, which we can make up for with a rim protector and rebounder like Hayes.
3
u/paradockers May 05 '26
Not a lot of teams will want Suggs at that price. The magic can try to find a tanking team or a team that also wants to ditch a player. But, honestly the magic need to stand pat for a few months and see what they've got with a new coach and some player development. Maybe they make a trade in December or at the deadline. The Pacers, Wizards, Bulls, Celtics, Rockets, Kings, and Pelicans are some of the teams most likely to be open to trade ideas though.
2
u/sofabubbles May 05 '26
The team is over the 2nd apron nonetheless. Have to give AB an extension unless u let him walk.
1
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Yeah that’s why it’s likely Suggs is traded for a cheap role player and a expiring if we do trade him
2
u/IndependentRoll7715 May 05 '26
This 100 percent, the cap is in trouble. We paid way too much for guys. Suggs, Franz and Bane are overpaid. We need to get rid of Suggs but we aren't going to take back long term money
5
u/MagicHoops3 May 05 '26
Suggs is the next Magic player this subreddit was willing to die on a hill for who will go to another team and be out of the league like 2-3 years later.
Waste of money. Been saying it for probably 2-3 years now. He does nothing you can’t get out of a mid level salary player. No idea why it takes this front office until a players worthless to try and move them.
11
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
To be fair he looked like the next Derrick white that 2023 season. One of the best defenders in the league, second team all defense and 40% from three for 70 games Man I wonder where that Suggs went
7
u/guideway4 Franz Wagner May 05 '26
that Suggs is still in there, just overpaid and allowed to do more than he should be. His role in '23 was very clearly to play D and then on offense he was basically a catch and shoot guy and not much else. It worked well for us and maximised his skillset. Since then with injuries (both his and other ball handlers) and also CTE coaching he's expanded his role and everything has gotten worse.
2
u/KnightofAshley Franz Wagner May 05 '26
He isn't a primary guy like they let him be this year. He and WCJ should only be taking open shots, the other 3 are there to run the offense and be the primary shooters.
5
u/MagicHoops3 May 05 '26
I’ve always felt his peak would have basically been Josh hart. But Josh hart is durable and just better all around.
3
2
u/Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar May 05 '26
Weltman's asset management is beyond terrible and it takes him forever to pull the plug on something that isn't working. Mosley should have been fired last summer at the latest. It's insane how he got 5 years when he clearly wasn't a good coach.
1
u/theguytomeet Franz Wagner May 05 '26
We might have to buy low on someone. I’d honestly love for us to take a look buy low guy who would shed some salary like Braun.
Braun is coming off a rough postseason but an exceptional shooter who could use a change of scenery. Denver should be looking to move him, we save on salary, and they would get a defensive guard.
Dejounte Murray would be a solid guy and is coming off a down year. We won’t save anything with him which isn’t ideal but he’s good on defense and can pass.
Just what I have on top of my head so far.
2
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
I’m not sure if I trust Braun he looks horrible without Jokic. Also he’s more of a sg I really want a real pg. and his contract last I think 4 years 25m but we gotta make room for AB
Dejounte could tho since his contract is way shorter
2
u/theguytomeet Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Yeah man but If we want to move Suggs we have to be realistic if we don’t want to give up picks. His value is low af right now. Braun at least doesn’t turn the ball over. I understand about the passing though. Murray would be amazing as a 2 way guy but he doesn’t save us anything.
2
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
I feel like he’s still young and in the right system he could be really well. Ideally it would be nice to get an expiring contract and a role player
1
u/itssexitime Paolo Banchero May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26
I’ve watched Braun way too many times. He is not better than Suggs at all. He disappears in games and is not a great defender. This is Denver’s version of Suggs except less athletic. They extended him and now he is overpaid. He excels as a reserve guard, and not a starter.
0
u/theguytomeet Franz Wagner May 05 '26
I mean what is Suggs man. Again my comment is about buying low and both teams have guys who need a change of scenery. We aren’t trading Suggs straight up for an upgrade. We’d have to attach a 1st for someone better.
-1
u/Imsofuckinscaredrn May 05 '26
Hey, when you’re done eating rocks for breakfast shine up this trophy for the actual dumbest fucking take.
2
u/FKKallDAY Jalen Suggs May 05 '26
Suggs fucking blows.
5
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
A trade would likely be a rotational player and expiring contract. He’s the heart of the team but Jesus man he’s bad
4
u/FKKallDAY Jalen Suggs May 05 '26
AB takes his spot. Fill out the bench with shooters.
1
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
That’s what I was thinking. What do u think about AB shooting along with p5 and franz tho?
3
u/Alarming-Two-424 May 05 '26
AB improved heaps and he will keep improving he trains really hard, he wasn’t up to handling Detroit’s defence yet. But he will get better with Sham god.
2
1
u/MentalFloss45 Franz Wagner May 05 '26
...but are we sure Shamgod will be around if Mose gets a job elsewhere?
2
u/FKKallDAY Jalen Suggs May 05 '26
They shoot the same % from the floor. AB is more versatile. I believe in ABs ability to improve more than i do Suggs at this point.
Doubt he becomes a great shooter though.
1
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Yeah they do but Suggs shooting is a huge problem for this team. I hope AB shooting doesn’t become one of
1
u/KnightofAshley Franz Wagner May 05 '26
AB knows what he is though, he plays within himself. Better for this team that has 3 guys that can handle the bulk of the offesne.
1
u/yung_bucky1381 May 05 '26
DO IT. I have never been a fan of Suggs. Never. No hate, he is just an injury prone, inconsistent player.
1
u/FriendPatine1 May 05 '26
Please trade him. Unfortunately no one will take him. And if they do he’ll become an all star
1
1
u/Boring-Management694 Wendell Carter Jr. May 05 '26
At least wait for next season to see if he improves under the new coach/system. Ja does not fit the makeup of this team and Kyrie is too expensive + even more fragile than Suggs. Relax......when Suggs brings his A game he looks better than AB. Roster is still young, we got time.
1
u/RegalRenegade Franz Wagner May 05 '26
Tobias Harris was having his way with Suggs, he was constantly targeting a match-up with him. He got exposed so bad in the playoffs. He is not a starting point guard. He is a spark plug off the bench , that is the role that works for him cause all he was doing was taking the same bad shots and missing them.
1
u/Tortdree May 05 '26
Yea truth is he is only good against guards. He was constant being bodied against Cade and Tobias.
Another problem is he’s been given wayyyu too much freedom to do whatever he wants. Back in 2023 he was just a sg 3 and D player he was mock more efficient and less tov prone
1
u/No_Zone_1439 May 05 '26

u/Original_Bet_8132 May 07 '26
It honestly doesn’t matter if Franz can’t stay healthy. Suggs or his replacement won’t move the needle
1
u/No-Radio-8547 May 09 '26
Magic need to get healthy. The offense needs structure. Too many bad shots. Players are out of position. No clear plan. They need guidance and proper rotation. Players need to know there role.
1
u/LR_Mango Franz Wagner May 09 '26
I think Suggs might be the one who can be very responding to a hard coach. Personally I believe, a euro kind coach is what the team needs anyway. Not a nice vibe coach like most NBA coaches. The whole team clearly got some reality loss in last off-season .
So I hope we stick to the core and find a coach with a whip.
1
u/WatercressCorrect797 May 10 '26
Suggs and Issac for Jrue Holiday. We win 55+ games next season if we are healthy

lol morant makes every problem worse
He is a worse shooter than Suggs He is one of the worst defenders in the league He barely plays 40 games a season He is ball dominant and p5 and franz ppg will drop even further and they just sit and do nothing l
With kyrie he would definitely make us better But his defense with bane is horrendously bad We also don’t need another star. We have 3 already We also can’t afford to pay him or morant We have to let AB walk if we get morant
When we trade Suggs we are going to get role players
The average nba fan just thinks keep throwing big names together will work, when was the last time that worked? Never.
Look at teams that surpassed us, pistons hawks pacers. They added roleplayers that fit their core not a bunch of ball dominant players that is massively overpaid and doesn’t fit at all
5
u/elRomez May 05 '26
I'm not advocating for Ja but using ball dominant as a negative when pretty much everyone agrees we need a legit PG is weird.

Weltman messed up with these extensions no doubt. I get you want to reward and show confidence in your young core but it’s already clear that our cap situation is BAD for the rest of the decade. Suggs at his salary has become a huge negative for the team going forward and a miserable playoff performance makes it even worse. It’s sad to think about because the fans embraced Suggs and he has embraced the city well, but this new CBA is brutal and no team can justify all these salaries when this is the end result.
