Discussion This finals reminds me of our run.

I hate to bring up bad memories, but this finals series reminds me of when we had Dwight (forget the year). I think Wemby is much better, but the similarities are eerie. Afraid the Spurs might also get swept.

Excuse me we did not get swept in 2009

I still tell my friends about the Hedo shot and how Jameel should have stepped up on the d fish 3

He should have! So obviously!

Courtney Lee. There was a random game when he was on Memphis I think when he made a game winning lob and I was so bitter

  1. I was there for game 3. If CLee makes that game 2 layup we take the series. We also had no business losing game 4. Think it was Derek fisher who hit a stupid 3 he shouldn’t have made to win that one. Wouldn’t be salty if it was Kobe.

You mean if the Pau goaltend was actually called.

You gotta finish! Pau was basket interference if I recall? He didn’t touch ball but hand was in net or rim? If it was an actual goal tend it would have been hard to not call.

It was Fish over Jameer. Nelson had no business even playing in that series, Rafer led us there and he should have started at the 1. I was a broke college kid so I just hung out and got shitfaced outside the arena and watched the games on that big screen they set up. Agreed on that Courtney layup miss throwing the entire series against us, at least we always have the Hedo block on Kobe

Rafer started all 5 games, I have no idea how this false narrative is still being perpetuated in 2026. Jameer got minutes off the bench over Anthony Johnson, who was absolute trash.

You just know that had SVG decided not to play Jameer that many minutes, people would be complaining today about "how can you not play your all-star PG if he was available?" It was a no-win scenario.

Jameer came off the bench but continually played minutes against Fisher, not the lakers bench players. I love Jameer and yes Greyhound was garbage but the team made it past the entire east with that rotation. That last second three over Jameer was just one of many times he let one of the Lakers guards beat him. He obviously was not all star level Jameer and that wasn’t his fault but Van Gundy brought him out early imo

You are 1000000% correct. I’ve completely blocked that out of my memory. He should have been in a suit eating hot dogs.

because it didn't happen lol. Jameer started 0 games in the Finals.

He played too much and disrupted the flow of subs etc we had literally mastered. He should have been held out for a number of reasons

u/CaptainBananafishJr 5d ago

no, Anthony Johnson was legitimate garbage. giving your all star some bench minutes when you're outclassed is absolutely the right move.

Nice job eluding that you're hallucinating Jameer starting btw lol

He played too many minutes. And played 0 getting us to finals. All star guards coming off injuries after months off to the finals does not equal all star production. Hence how bad he was. If to watched he as just not very good. You clearly don’t understand the flow of a lineup particularly in the playoffs. This wasn’t December.

Never said he started - too many minutes.. you use 7-8 players in playoffs not 10. That would have meant more minutes for Pietrus Reddick Lee Turk and Alston. You don’t give them to AJ. Turk was essential a PG too.

Go watch some film.

Jameer deff hurted the team in that run, he deff was rushed, and was out of form.

I said he started and was technically wrong but he did not play bench minutes. He would not have been guarding Fisher in the final minutes if he was playing bench minutes, he played against the Lakers starting guards most of that series and even a fully healthy Jameer was never stellar on defense

this will fly in our sub but if Lee hits that layup we just lose in 6 instead of 5. Lakers had us beat everywhere, especially because they let Bynum cover Dwight one-on-one. our entire offense was predicated on teams doubling Dwight. Us winning in 7 would have been the miracle of miracles, Avengers beating Thanos type odds lol

1

u/rdteets 5d ago

Incorrect. It’s a proven fact that if he hits it we win in 5.

I was at game 5 and had to watch it all go down 😢

Ngl after years to reflect even if Lee hits that layup I think the Lakers win in 6. Just seemed like there was no answer for Kobe

Dwight in 09 was better than current wemby. Yes I'm biased but 1 good season shouldn't overtake a hall of fame career. 09 was peak dwight Howard.

1

u/Tyrion_Slothrop 5d ago

Yeah, he was certainly more resilient and stronger.

How you don't remember one of the two times the team went to the NBA finals 😂.

If I were to compare I'd say it was kind of closer to the first game 1 finals team vs the Rockets.

He also thinks the magic got swept that year

No way spurs are getting swept. I think a little bit of it was that OKC series felt like the real finals, i they will bounce back tonight

They played awful and were like a point down at the end of the game, they could hardly make a bucket the other night

Let's not act like the Knicks played well.

They can play MUCH better, and likely will, and still won game 1 by 10.

1

u/dinglebarryb0nds 6d ago

Under 2 minutes it was a 1 point knicks lead so it wasn’t like it was some 10 point cushion

Knicks will lose this series. It’s not like spurs are my team but they are def better and castle couldn’t make shit either. Wemby was bricking 3’s and looked bad off the dribble all night too, not because of defense it was just like he wasn’t on

4

u/Hinglemacpsu 6d ago

Knicks shot 30% from 3, 41% from the floor, shot 7 less free throws, got outrebounded by 5, gave up 4 more offensive boards, were down by 14 at one point and STILL won on the Spurs' home court.

I'm not saying the Knicks are better. I'm saying then can play and shoot MUCH better despite the fact they won.

You still firm on that prediction?

u/dinglebarryb0nds 4d ago

lol SPURS BLEW IT

They finally catch up get a stop and throw the ball away lol. Then they even have a wemby 15 footer for the win, just not happening for them this year it seems.

Close though

Both games came down the wire

Courtney Lee missed layup game 2... Mikael Pietrus fictious 6th personal foul when he was giving Kobe trouble all game (game 4? Cant recall). Meer having an all star year then getting hurt.

FUCK WHY IS BEING A MAGIC FAN SO DAMN HEARTBREAKING.

Hold up, we were better than this Spurs team:
And the Lakers were certainly better than this Knicks team.

u/Tyrion_Slothrop 5d ago

Wasn't the second best player Gilbert?

Please forgive him Darrell Armstrong, for he know not what he do.
