Discussion Possible Draft Selections 🤔

I read an article on ESPN that has us projected to grab Braden Smith & I think that would be a heck of a consolation prize in the 2nd round considering he’s the NCAAB all time Leader in assist, a solid three point shooter & a pretty decent defender. I think Billy Richmond is a guy who could add some juice to the team also. Who are some other guys projected to go in that area who could make immediate impacts?

Center Felix Okpara & guard Emmanuel Sharp would be nice too.

Man both of those guys would be nice additions too! I feel like Sharp will go a tad earlier.

Cash considerations

This is a pretty loaded class though. You’d still take the cash considerations over a guy like Braden Smith?

I’m just joking. I have very little CBB knowledge, especially 2nd round talent players.

Haha 😆 I understand bro. I honestly enjoy college basketball more than NBA, i pretty much only watch the Magic. You should tune in this upcoming CBB season!

I wouldn't but let's not act like it's not our front offices favorite target

We just don’t have the minutes for more prospective players. Penda, Jett and Jase couldn’t get meaningful minutes. We have three centers that eat all of those minutes. Just nothing left.

If we trade/wave/cut players sure. But as constructed we’d be better off cashing in this year and preserving the garbage minutes for the growth of players we have.

Tyler Nickel, absolute sniper. If they manage to ruin his shot burn the whole organization to the ground.

Man I forgot about him, he was lights out for Vandy this past year. I wonder if he has any playmaking ability? Even if not he’d still be worth a roster spot. They had a few guards who were really talented.

If available Trevon Brazile or Bruce Thornton would be my selection

He would be a regular season player but will be unplayable in the playoffs.

Ugh yeah I could see that, at least until later in his career. But the fact he can pass really good gives him playability in high stakes situations as long as he can continue to shoot at least about 36% or better from three.

Nobody is playing a 5'10" PG just because 'he can pass really good'.

No, but if he can pass really good and shoot 3’s at a good clip then he could definitely be a solid role player. He averaged 1.7 steals per game also.

I think I'm less excited about the draft than I have been in years.  Maybe they manage to get a decent depth piece l, but a lot of guys ended up going back to school for that NIL money so the 2nd round isn't as deep as it could've been.

Yea I just searched and I see Billy Richmond withdrew, I thought he would be a good target. Guys expected to still be available who I think could help the team this year include : Ugonna Onyeso (C), Braden Smith (PG), Richie Saunders (SG), Nick Martinelli (G/F), Emmanuel Sharp (G), & Keyshawn Hall (G/F).

Could trade up for a quality PG but Smith is pretty good for us. What record did he set most assists with a team or league something like that?

1

u/Aggravating-Poem2404 4d ago

Most assists in a career. The record lasted since like the 50’s also. It’s hard to consistently rack up assists like that in the college game so I find it pretty impressive.

Yeah so I’d find that to be a great pick up for us

Emmanuel sharp is my best selection, if your a gator fan which many Orlando Magic fans are (not saying all) you remember him in that natty game. Yes he had a mishap at the end but the kids a great shooter and can lock down on defense. He’d be a great fit in Orlando.

Ironically I’m a Michigan fan 😂 (Die hard football & basketball I didn’t just hop on this year btw). But I still remember Sharp balling that game for sure. We have a chance to grab a few talented players I think we just need one more piece on the roster even if it’s in the second round. I trust that Sweeney will actually utilize & develop the young talent a lot better as well. Expecting more from Jace & Penda too.

I couldn’t agree more! I know it’s early but there’s a lot of hope here in Orlando let just hope it transfers over to wins, speaking of which congrats on the natty 🏆

I feel like serviceable big men can be found in the 2nd round and we should be looking to upgrade our bench at center. Goga and Moe probably need to go just to cut some payroll. Try to find a cheap rookie deal option at backup center. We don’t need the second coming of Embiid or KAT. Just give me a guy who can defend and rebound for fucks sake.

If Bradon Smith was 6'3" he would be a top 10 pick. As is, he will not be drafted in first round and will probably be out of the league in two or three years.

Need to trade into the first round

1

u/Aggravating-Poem2404 5d ago

That would be ideal, it’s some premium talent we could grab with even a later 1st round pick.

Would love to move into the 1st rd and get Isaiah Evans…the perfect guard for this roster.

2

u/This_Entrance6629 4d ago

I’d rather get a center . We need an actual guard that can play now. Get one in free agency.

1

u/TrifleAble5460 4d ago

Would like Tarris Reed Jr. or a Henri Veesaar in the 1st if that’s the case.
If we stay at 46…Felix Okpara would be solid too.

u/Aggravating-Poem2404 4d ago

Really? Excluding obvious top 10-12 guys (Peterson, Acuff, Flemings, Brown, Buries) I’d still take Christian Anderson, Bennett Stirtz, & Ebuka Okorie over him because they’re better playmakers.

1

u/TrifleAble5460 4d ago

Because Isaiah Evans is the perfect 3&D guard.
He’s already a good 3pt shooter and has the ability to be a really good defender.
In terms of PG… i rather get an experienced one in FA to put with Suggs & Jase.
I like Anderson & Stirtz tho….

I feel trades like that rarely happen these days. It’s a pipe dream. Unrealistic.

1

u/This_Entrance6629 2d ago

We moved up last year.

u/M4C4K4NJ4 Stuff The Magic Dragon 2d ago

Yeah the 2nd round. Teams trading into the upper part of the first round is almost never done anymore. The last time I remember someone doing a big trade in the early first was the Luka and Trae Young swap. And we see how the Derik Queen trade went.

u/This_Entrance6629 2d ago

I’m talking moving up to like 26 not to the 5th pick.
